  1. "Rather than clinging to antiquated rulings, do you think it would be better if you could site a sound reason why young women in Venturing who have completed the camping requirement, who have shown leadership, should be overlooked? " They are not being overlooked, they simply are not BOY SCOUTS. If venturing wants an honor program then let them set up a similar, parallel program. Why is that so hard to understand?
  2. These young ladies that are working at the camps, while they may be great, are employees, plain and simple. There are a lot of young men that work at these camps also that are not OA members, so why should we make changes for the female youth? The rules say, OA is a Boy Scout Youth Program. Adults are a totally separate subject. Until Boyscouts go coed, which will be never I predict because of the loss of membership it will cause, then there is no youth female members. Why must we bend the program to accomondate someone when they knew the rules going in to it.
  3. How about NO FREAKIN WAY, and we quit talking about it like its gonna happen, cause we all know its not. Truth be told it you would lose several sponsor including the LDS church.
  4. you should call your CE and see what he can do. Why not cook at the campsite? As for keeping the food there is a lot of stuff that does not require refigeration.
  5. Once your a member of the OA, it doesn't matter what type unit you are in after that. So he can drop the troop if he wants a still be a youth member. As to allowing venturers to hold elections, NO. If the OA wants a honor camping reogram, create one, its just that simple.
  6. We ran river trips for the Scouts in our council for years. Some years with over 300 scouts and leaders canoeing. Moderate rivers with little gear. We figured 12-15 Miles was a good trip. That included time for fishing, lunch and just a good day. If your interested in Just paddling and you have experianced scouts you can easily do 25-30 miles. But where is the fun in just paddleing.
  7. NEVER EVER leave the trailer at the COR's location. Most parking lots are isolated and no one is around at night. Park it at a leaders house. Use a hitch lock, and get a heavy chain and chain it to a big tree.
  8. The answer is NO, what part of he has not met the 4 month requirement do they not understand? The answer is schedule another BOR for the week after, why would they wait 3 months?
  9. Quit dancing around the issue, he doesn't attend meetings with you therefore he is not a member of your den, send his records back to the CM and let him do what he wants. Then you move on with the rest of your den and parents and if asked , tell the Johnnie deceided not to be part of your den, and thats that. If the CM wants to award him bogus pins because they won't stand up to this unethical leader , then so be it, not your problem.
  10. Just say NO, its easy, only 2 letters. Rules are rules and thats that.
  11. HIPPA may not apply, however you need to know what your state laws are on the possession of someone elses MED's. In most states its a crime to possess Med's not presribed to you or your family. Is it really worth it if something happens and they start asking why you were handing out medice without a license?
  12. So where do you draw the line on a parent when you find out they have a violent criminal history? What if the parent was a convicte/ registered sex offender? Where do you deceide?
  13. If you deal with people that have demestic violence records you know that in 95% of the cases these people claims its always the other persons fault that something happened. You might think he is a nice guy, but nice guys do not have violet criminal records. I see them enough in court to know I would not trust someone around my kid without knowing the whole story.
  14. all this speculation about what happened is immaterial. Like it or not the man is a convicted domestic abuser criminal. At the very least the CO needs to know. For all you know he may have been a violent man, so far you only have a small part of the story. If he doesn't want to register maybe he is hiding more than he is telling you. Ask your self this. I know that he is a convicted person, do you really want to take responsibility for him not doing it again? and if he does where will you be then?
  15. Let them think what they want, just make sure the rules are fully explained when they arrive. I think $10 is to little considering the facilities available to them. I think $25 would be better, unless they can show a $100 dollar FOS donation proof, then they get in for $10.
  16. Like all lawsuits, once the emotion is taken out thru the appeal process this will be overturned or reduced greatly.
  17. First there is no one answer. Some are going to tell you the CO owns everything, not true or coulf be 100% true. The answer lies in the laws of the state that you are located in. To get a good answer ask an attorney in your local area. Do not take the answer that the CO owns everything cause it just ain't so.
  18. After researching some more I have found ou the reason nothing has been published is because its an ongoing case. Normal rules there are they don't publish till concluded.
  19. T2Eagle I looked in all the legal research available to me at the court , and I can't find any opinion relating to this case. The only explaination I have is that nothing will be published until the case is concluded so as not to tait the Jury pool. From a Judges stand point I think BSA's labeling of the files as "Perversion" was a serious tactical error. They could have used a more publicly acceptable name for that group of files.
  20. Thats what it appears to me to be. There was a really ugly divorce and 1 party is not happy with the outcome so she chooses to drag everyone else into the mess. While I don't handle divorces in my court, I do see enough domestic issues to know that nothing is ever resolved to everyones satisfaction.
  21. Gonzo1, People will file claims for the smallest things just to prove a point. $300 is nothing. I have had a man sue his friend for $6.52 for a supposedly broken tool, 2 sisters sueing over a set of tupperware, and piles of others like it. Principle counts to some even if It cost tons to prove thier point
  22. That there thing is put there to stimulate conversation. This way adault leaders can stand around speculating about its use for hours at a time. The benifit is if they are doing that they are not bothing the scouts.
  23. I went back and read all your post to see where your comments started. In the begining it was a leader having affairs with married women, no all the sudden it has become your ex from an alldgedly nasty divorce. I say that because all we have is your side here, and from my chair it seems awful tilted. If this was your ex you should have stated that in the begining, because now it sound to me like sour grapes because you didn't get what you wanted.
  24. He sounds just like the gentleman that I had the unfortunate duty of arraigning last night at 11pm for inappropriatte contact with a 16 yr old girl that was a family friend. You wouldn't be in Upstate NY would you? Now he gets to be a guest of the county sheriff until monday, and figure out how to salvage his life.
