  1. I sure hope they fix it. The design on that knot is hidious.
  2. This is so bizarre. I would without emotion explain to the young man that an Eagle application is no place for a joke. Remove it or I won't sign. Say the same thing to the clueless dad. End of story.
  3. Boy Scout 1994 Wood Badge 1996 C1196 Foxes Rule Cub Scout 1997 Venturing 2000
  4. I remember the first weekend of woodbadge, I sewed on all my patrols patrol emblems for free, as a good turn. Foxes rule.
  5. Obviously, there is much value in a PTC. And the BSA wants to encourage utilization of the PTC. If offering a square knot will encourage it, why not. Too many people get their undies all in a bunch over people that look at things differently than they do. If wearing a bunch of knots on your uniform is your thing, fine, if not wearing anything on your uniform strikes your fancy, equally as fine. Just don't criticize the people on the other side of the fence.
  6. Eagle District Award of Merit Silver Beaver Scouter's Key Scoutmaster Award of Merit Commissioner's Distinquished Service Award
  7. You're right, that'll clinch it.
  8. Excellent point, the problem is not with the project requirement, it is with adult leaders not following the requirements and adding some of their own.
  9. So much talk about a single problem. No, there is no national requirement for wearing a uniform. But, why would a boy want to be in scouts and not wear one? Going for a board of review is like going for a job interview. You wouldn't go to a job interview without looking your best, even though it's not required. Why would you go to a scout BOR without your uniform on, even though it's not required? A sure sign of maturity is when people do what is right. even though there is no "requirement" to do so.
  10. The beads are just memorabelia and tradition. It's what the represent in the way of dedication and acquisition of knowledge that matters.
  11. Sign your boys up and let them go. They will mature alot between now and then. You have to give them a challange in order for them to mature and grow on their own. Going as a visitor will be very limited participation. The other option you suggested is just not possible. They have to attend the jamboree as a member of a council contingency troop. Some boys would be embarrassed to have "mom and dad" tagging along with them at a jamboree.

    The new uniform.

I can't seem to get an answer on what we are going to do with all the different colors of shoulder loops. The boys in the new uniform will be wearing green ones. Do all the boys wearing the current style of uniform change their red loops to green? What about Venture Crews, that are already wearing green loops? Looks like we're setting ourselves up for a real hodge podge. Is that even a word?
  13. A boy in my troop got the Medal of Merit once. I got the standard form from my DE, had the family fill it out, and sent it in. The council advancement committe?, makes the decision of what award to give.
  14. Agreed. Just fired off my application as well.
  15. If it makes him want to wear his uniform, let him do it.

    The new uniform.

Let's see, we'll have Venturers with green shoulder loops, boy scouts with green shoulder loops, and boy scouts with red shoulder loops..... ok............
  17. Yes, you have it exactly right.
  18. After hearing pitch after pitch for district assistance at roundtables every month, I went to the next disctrict committee meeting and offered my services. The rest is history, so to speak.
  19. Supposedly either way is ok. But it does look better centered.
  20. Congratulations, now it's time for him to expand his horizons.
  21. My TG approved my ticket items with input from the CD. He alone signed off my ticket items as being complete as I finished them.
  22. No, the merit badge counselor does not have to be present for a completed activity to "count". The verification that the requirement was completed (note from scoutmaster, word of honor from the scout, etc) is entirely at the discretion of the merit badge counselor.
