  1. I agree, nostalgia would have been better.
  2. Hang in there buddy. Anybody who has been through what you have is my kind of leader. Don't worry about the ones who like to think they know it all. Keep asking any question you want, there is no such thing as a dumb one. Good luck.

    Eagle neckerchief

I usually purchase one as a gift for any scout that I know that earns his Eagle.
  4. Did 2001. Well worth the experience. You will enjoy it.
  5. No problem if a scout wants to change troops. A phone call to the scoutmaster is certainly not required, but it is the courteous thing to do.
  6. I agree, whenever I have served on an EBOR I have always been in complete uniform. It shows that I respect the occasion as much as the young man being reviewed should. If an EBOR member is not a registered scouter, I would expect professional dress.
  7. Yup, the record keeping of training is definately going to have to improve. Hope we don't lose too many leaders over all this.
  8. True, the insignia guide is very specific about the Eagle square not being for adults, and the rank patch being for youth. If an adult, for personal reasons, wants to violate the terms of the insignia guide and wear his Eagle rank patch, I'm not going to get all upset over it.
  9. Wow. I sure hope this turns out well. I wonder why this had to even go to National. Sounds like a slam dunk to me. I guess the District and Council are just too close to the unit, and don't want to ruffle any feathers, so to speak. I guess all we can do is wait.
  10. This may become a mute point in a few years when training is nationally required for registration.
  11. Wonder if you would even be considered for wood badge staff if you took the wood badge refresher course.
  12. He may very well escape justice again and wander back to France, it still doesn't make it right.
  13. Well, my son I still registered, as an adult leader, so I guess I'm not old and feeble quite yet. Happy Holidays to all.
  14. Oh well, don't worry too much about the misplacement.
  15. The order of the arrow is an honorary organization. You are elected by your fellow scouts you notice your devotion to service to others before self. It is a service organization that provides much monetary support and volunteer work for the local councils and the US Forest Service amoung others. It is an honor to serve in that organization. If you are not an individual dedicated to service to others before self, then the principles of the order will mean nothing to you.
  16. My complaints are: pocket on the sleeve green shoulder loops (what's wrong with red) cheap manufacturing (bsa and american flag) lack of instruction on what patches to wear and where to wear them
  17. I wear the campaign hat for 2 reasons. I am a sentimentalist at heart, it was the first scout hat. Plus, I need something to keep the sun off my fat little bald head, ears, face, and neck.
  18. Yes, I know. I too have been working at the weight for years now.
  19. I always wear full uniform when traveling. In 2007, on the way to Kansas, a fellow scouter bought our entire crew dinner because he realized we were scouts. It pays to advertise.
  20. Sure, wear the uniform. It lets the boys know that there is more to adult leadership in scouting than cub scout leaders.
  21. Since he has not had a POR as a Life scout, that prevents any grief from falling on you over that issue. I agree with Ed, you have already gone the extra mile and the ball is now in his court, so to speak. He will have to attend troop activites on a regular basis to get elected to anything, or appointed. From his record of non-attendance, I don't think it's going to happen. I would ask him when re-chartering time comes up if he even wants to be on the troop roster.
