  1. It's news to me. I'm afraid I don't know anything about it.
  2. I have seen that happen many times, when the parents push the boy to finish his Eagle, and he does it to get his parents off his back, not because it means anything to him.
  3. Is Merlyn even a registered member of the BSA? I wonder if his participation on this forum is "Troll" behavior, just trying to see how big a rise he can get out of us?

    Knot Me

I personally choose to wear my knots (13), but, it doesn't matter to me what other adult leaders choose to do, it's their choice. I don't think any more of less of them either way.
  5. Yes, the unfortunate thing about this whole mess is that the kids will have to suffer.
  6. Any event that attracts boys, and gives us the opportunity to present the positive aspects of scouting is a good idea.
  7. I say change the mindset. Some boys like advancement, and others don't. I never have liked the 1st class within a year. Most kids I have seen, I think 2-3 years is more realistic. The big thing is I think advancement should be available for the boys who want it. As has been stated repeatedly, advancement is only 1 of the 8 methods of scouting, stop making it such a top priority and just let the boys have a good time and enjoy what scouting has to offer. If they stay active in the program, and the program is run correctly, advancement will take care of itself.
  8. My council used to have a tangle knot, for doing something stupid. Like answering a phone in the camp office at summer camp that wasn't plugged in.
  9. True, I enjoy their back and forth bickering for a short time as light entertainment, but it gets real old, very fast.
  10. The rules are pretty plain to me Merlyn. If you choose to ignore them, that is your problem. If you feel that Ed has violated them, that doesn't give you the right to jump in. What's the old addage, "Two wrongs don't make a right".
  11. I got the message the first time around, and it makes perfect sense. Too bad there are some individuals that just don't seem to get the message. Thanks for the forum and keep up the good work.
  12. #5 Eagle, Red, White, and Blue on a Kahaki background (has been produced on other background colors such as white, black, and green)
  13. If the Dens are only meeting once a month, you are not giving enough of the scouting program to make it interesting for the boys.
  14. Yes, you are eligible to wear it. Wear it with pride.
  15. By all means, file a formal appeal to the District Advancement Chairman, continue it up the chain (Council, Region, National) if necessary. However, as previously stated, it this troop is this so far out of line with advancement policies, who knows what else they may be inventing on their own. You may want to switch troops. Get a copy of the completion sheet, I'm sure you will find a troop that will be glad to do things right and accept the merit badges as having been earned.
  16. Any troops I have ever been acquainted with has given out Merit Badges at the Court of Honor.

    New Uniforms

    We can only hope.
  18. I had a experience similar to Eamonn's. Nominated 2 leaders for the DAM , they were the only two nominations. I asked the DE after the meeting if my nominations had gotten through, he said no, we had another nomination at the last minute, turns out the last minute nominee that got it was me.
  19. Totally sad, my prayers are with you and your family.
  20. It''s always best to put your best foot forward, so to speak.
  21. I believe that scouting should teach "service beyond self". Achieving the rank of Eagle is only the beginning, it is time to start giving back to the program all that you have gotten out of it, and more. The scouting trail never ends.
