  1. There are 2 groups of Wood Badgers, those who are Foxes, and those who wish they were!!!!!!!!!
  2. In this case, the group designates someone that they are honoring by making the donation. The named person would wear the knot. It sounds like the late scoutmaster is being honored, so his name would be listed in the councils list of people who have achieved the distinction of achieving that award, but of course, he would no longer be alive to wear it.
  3. Yes, this fraud needs to be stopped now. Ignoring requirements that have not been met, and allowing the boy to advance to rank that he hasn't earned is not doing anybody any good.
  4. In the past the unit I was associated with contributed 50.00 towards the cost of conducting the Eagle COH. I would personally purchase the Eagle Neckerchief and present it to the new Eagle.
  5. That certainly is an interesting concept. I was thinking also, it could be used to designate someone who has earned the Commissioner's Distinquished Service Award more than once.
  6. Actually, all the knots require either exceptional devotion or a nomination by someone. I respect anyone with any knot they feel is special enought to wear.
  7. Just my personal opinion, but anytime there is a special opportunity to provide a merit badge at camp that otherwise wouldn't be available, I say go for it. That is part of the appeal of the merit badge program, to get the kids to try something new and different. They may discover a new hobby, or career. Seems I've read that in official literature somewhere.
  8. I've also heard of people donating an inheritance to scouting by purchasing that award. I guess I see it as somebody putting their money where their mouth is, so to speak, and then, by wearing the award, challenging others to do the same.
  9. Congratulations on earning your beads. I can understand how you feel, taking Woodbadge was a great experience, and I would have loved to do more. Unfortunately, I've discovered that to go on in Woodbadge, you're either "in the club" or you're not. I was never considered for that honor. So I feel like I'm on the outside looking in. Oh well, I have lots of food memories, and the education is priceless.
  10. True, if double dipping is prohibited, it will state so specifically in the requirements for that particular merit badge.
  11. Lisabob, I've been in you shoes also. I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you have followed all procedures correctly. You are to be commended for not giving in, and providing meaning to the attained rank. It is, after all is said and done, up to the boy to rise to the necessary requirements, or not. If he does, it will be to his own benefit, and will help his development in the long run. After all, that's our purpose in scouting, to encourage the proper development of the youngsters.
  12. Yes, unfortunately I've encountered the same thing. Be flexible, don't be afraind to discuss a modification of your ticket with your course councelor. Keep your spirits up, and remember the end result will be worth it.
  13. I feel like I pushed a nickel into a slot somewhere.
  14. I've never seen anybody wearing the large pins on their uniform, they certainly could if they wanted to. Personally, it's not that big of a deal to stitch on a rank patch.
  15. Sorry Ed, but I have to agree with Al on this one. Compared to the high prices being charged for everything else today (NFL Jersey's for example) the cost of a Scout uniform is not that out of line. When you consider the the options of E-bay, rummage sales, etc, that make the uniform even more affordable. If boys and or adult leaders recognized the value of wearing the uniform, they would find a way to acquire one.
  16. Medical Technologist in a hospital Blood Bank. I also breed snakes as a hobby, hope to turn it into a part time business shortly. I somehow find time to do scouting also.

    Silver or Red?

    Yup, silver for District Position.
  18. Interesting news. I had heard about the pack trainer award, but I have not seen anything offcial about it yet.
  19. I think that due to the size of the clips, you can only fit 4 devices on a knot. I have earned Training award more times, but, the overall rule is that you never wear more than 1 of a knot. So I just don't wear the extra devices. Hope I'm doing this right? Also, there are different plaques you earn as a Commisioner, but only 1 knot and no devices? What do Commisioners do if they earn the Commisioners Distinguished service award more than once, or is this even possible?
  20. If you felt that you couldn't be impartial, then you did the right thing.
  21. Agreed. If the unit expects you to do something (uniform inspection), they should have the courtesy to notify you in advance.
  22. I have never bought into the FCFY program either, you get a bunch of young, first class scouts who are now expected to do first class scout things such as troop leadership positions, eligiability for OA, and they are in no way ready for any of it.
