  1. Sounds like a loose cannon to me. He obviously has no interest in working with anybody else, and only wants to advance his own plans. He has resigned thankfully, good riddance, now try to repair the damage he has caused.
  2. I have noticed that the youth listen much better to a well functioning SPL than any of the adult leaders. An adult leader is percieved perhaps as just another adult telling them what to do. While a youth is given more credability.
  3. I have said the same thing to scouts once who were throwing rocks off a bridge. "You'll feel real stupid if you hit somebody in the head, and when they ask you why you threw the rock, you'll have to say "I don't know".
  4. Our troop always called them "parent meetings". There were registered committee memebers, but when it came to a vote, every reistered leader and parent had a vote. I know there is loads of information against this, but this is how the committee chairman wanted to run it.
  5. Too bad, he needs to find something useful in his life.
  6. Your course director should have given you a list of things you will need. Follow it. Good luck in your course, it is a great experience. Foxes rule C-11-96
  7. Wear it with pride. I still wear the 69 jamboree patch. I attended as a youth.
  8. Yes, if the scout loses his neckerchief he should replace it since it is pack property. In all the years I was associated with the pack, I don't ever recall it happening.
  9. In spite of what the liberal press tries to feed us every day, scouting is still largely respected in the US. I was reminded of this quite dramatically less than a month ago. (See my post "Good Turn"). There will always be the vocal minority trying to sway everybody to their point of view, that scouting's values are out of touch and not "cool".
  10. My local pack owns all the neckerchiefs. New Tigers are given a Tiger Neckerchief when they join, at the end of each school year, when the boy bridges to the next level, they turn in their neckerchief, and recieve the next one.
  11. Heck, I still do things that in hindsite aren't politicaly correct. Wish I had the ability to see all the ramifications of every action I take before I take it, but that is one skill I've never mastered, I find myself apologizing alot. The important thing is that he took the initiative and got his Eagle.
  12. It does appear to be moving faster. Thank you Terry.
  13. Winona, just south of Colby.
  14. Went to western Kansas for a week with my Venture Crew last week. We stopped for dinner at a local resturant that was packed with people. My son and I were in complete uniform while traveling, so it was obvious we were scouts. We were seated and placed our orders. About 10 minutes later, our waitress came up to our table and told us that another customer had noticed us as being scouts and had paid our dinner bill for us.

    Service Stars

Yes, either way is correct. I just total my years (27) and wear the appropriate number of stars with the light blue background.
  16. Of course, to look at this from the flip side, I am currently a unit commisioner with two units. I try to get acquainted with them and it's like pulling teeth. It would be nice if they would include me on their e-mail listing and let me know when their meetings are so I could visit them, instead of me calling and asking when their meetings are. Don't know if this is a common problem or not, it seems like many units don't even know what a unit commissioner is, or want one. Of course, with the statements of lack of service that have been posted, who can blame them.
  17. The form lists the merit badges that the boy has earned to get his Palm. The council checks to make sure that the merit badges listed have indeed been earned, and haven't been used as credit for the Eagle rank, or another Palm.
  18. In my opinion it is always a good idea for units to help defray the cost for any of their leaders who want to attend woodbadge. Yes, if your unit is lucky, they will be Foxes.
  19. I would have to say, the closing ceremonies, with the awsome fireworks displays. Youth Participant 1969 Staff Member 2001
  20. Actually silver is higher than gold in the shoulder loops too. Local scouters who work more closely with the youth are considered "higher in rank" than national leaders. That is why the district and council positions have silver shoulder loops.
  21. I have known several troops that get a council printout of all their boys advancement records annually at recharter time, and double check it against troop records for accuracy.
  22. Send him his credentials, and let him know that you will conduct a ceremony for him if and when he desires it.
