  1. I have been a merit badge counselor for years on the district MB list, and have never gotten a call from a scout from another troop. I don't think district MB counselor lists are used much anymore, if at all.
  2. It would be really nice if I could get anybody in my unit to even wear one.
  3. Years ago, as a district advancement chair, I took the time and effort to assemble a district counselor list. Unfortunately, it was not maintained by my successors. The current disctrict I am in does not even have a MBC list, to my knowledge. So, other than summer camp, we have no choice but to use in troop counselors.
  4. Everybody is an individual, and should be allowed to stay in a position as long as they want to, and as long as the unit wants them to.
  5. No, my troop does not limit any merit badges as far as age. Always encourage the boys to take whatever Merit Badges they want to take.
  6. I agree, if the BSA didn't want us to wear anything on the uniform, why do they keep creating more awards that are represented by knots? Like Andy said on his website, the quote by Casey Stengle "If you've done it, it ain't bragging"
  7. Unfortunately, I have found it to be just a subscription to NESA magazine. I have not seen any benefit in my local council either.
  8. Oh yes, that is a rare moment quaranteed to make you spray your bug juice.
  9. Does it have a cigarette pocket like the boy scout shirt?
  10. Yes, there are alot of problems here. 1. Immediate SM conference with the young man. Rescind the rank. 2. Yes, get the PL more involved with the advancement process. 3. SM or ASM should have noticed the irregularities at the SMC. 3. BOR should have noticed the irregularities if the SM missed them. You mean nobody looked at the dates the requirements were signed off on, when they were before the boy joined scouting? Talk about a bunch of people asleep at the switch.
  11. I liked the cub scout who saw the knots on my uniform and asked what they were. When I explained they were adult recognitions, he was surprised, and asked if you could still be in scouting as an adult.
  12. Yes, up to 6 may be worn on the sleeve. Any more than 6 need to go on the sash.
  13. Yes, I have been there several times, I would highly reccomend it.
  14. Glad it all worked out in the end.
  15. True, I've seen lots of great ideas for Cub Scouts to make their own Neckerchief slides.
  16. Yes, It is interesting that they have the advancement requirements in there for Venturing leaders, when advancement is not one of the methods of the Venturing Program.
  17. You also have to take the individual boy into account. An individual with learning diabilities may be unable to handle as large a project as other boys. That's why the requirement state to demonstrate organizational and leadership skills to the best of your ability.
  18. I have encountered several scouts like this. If the issue becomes too severe, let the parents know that one of them will have to accompany their son on an outing. It is not fair to turn adult and junior leaders into babysitters.
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong, I know that district patches are not for uniform wear, but I liked the idea of putting them on a Neckerchef, I don't see anything wrong with that.
  20. Yup, I had the same thing happen. Somehow, the message just doesn't get through to the parents, or the boys that scouting is not 7 more years of cub scouts.
  21. Oh yes, I can sympathize. My 3 years as a Scoutmaster were the most rewarding, and heartbreaking at the same time. I would have thought that a few people would have appreciated the job I tried to do, but it just didn't work out that way. I just hope I provided a decent program for the boys.
  22. Eagle Knot, Silver Beaver Knot, Jamboree Patch, Philmont Patch.
  23. I would have sent the kid home. The next meeting would have been a meeting of all the kids involved. If the kid or any of the others involved did not see the error of their ways, and express remorse, they would be gone. Assault cannot be tolerated.
  24. Good point. Take the money and run. Especially the way alot of councils are hurting for money these days.
