This thread reinforces my belief that today's youth aren't going anywhere in any type of basket any more than previous generations. Thanks Tahawk ☺

The distinguishing difference is not the rank itself but how it was earned. No one is saying 'paper Tenderfoot.'

The nice thing about Troopmaster is the calculations it does for things like the National Outdoor badges among others. I don't have one in front of me so correct me if I'm wrong but tracking ability for those isn't in the handbook.

RivetSmasher, I recall you mentioning you son chose a Troop. Are you volunteering in some capacity in said Troop? Sounds like the two of you will look spectacular in your new uniforms. I bought a pre-sewn patch shirt one time. Self and son have and will do our own sewing from now on. One way to save cheddar. And learn a useful skill. ☺

In my neck of the woods: $30 for a BSA CPR class. $65 for WFA. Both tabs picked up by the Troop. Our ARC instructor said the local Red Cross would charge us $300 for the WFA certification. $65 vs $300 every two years is significant. Scouts must be 14 years old to take WFA. Not sure if this is our instructor's policy or BSA's. She also mentioned the CPR class is almost an exact mirror of the First Aid Merit Badge. My $.02

Agreed mashmaster. I can't think of anything better off the top of my head. But there's a significant difference between what you typed and "Prepared. For Life."

@@mashmaster The camp card show and sell was . . . disappointing. Four initially signed up. One Scout showed upon time. One backed out at the last minute. Another was an hour late. No-show from the fourth. On top of all this, a Troop from another district insisted they had signed up for the same time slot. The one Scout did his best. Sold a few. I was unable to attend the show and sell, but I voiced my displeasure to the Council's DE after I heard about the situation. So, I have no answer to the title of your thread! I'm looking for answers myself at this point....

Agreed, Stosh. I've yet to meet a Scout who can play the Bugle, let alone a MBC who can help!

@@ShutterbugMom I'm confused as to your role. Your first post led me to believe your involvement was in a Pack of Cubs preparing to crossover into Boys Scouts. Then you mention your Troop patrols use their yells at the end of every meeting. The "mean spirited" responses you've received have been from Scouters who are involved with Boys, not Cubs. Thus the oft repeated (and appropriate) message of "let the Scouts figure it out." When I was a Cub leader I could see having a similar reaction to such responses. As an ASM of a Troop, not at all. I've read enough of your posts to know you're fiercely proud of your children. And rightly so based on what you've shared. Ideally, my son will outlast me. If so, I won't be around to "shelter" him from anything. Therefore, the best I can do is prepare him to handle himself in any situation that may arise. Be Prepared. Sounds familiar

"Slow and steady wins the race" is not the moral I take from the story. Talents are worthless unless used properly. The hare beating himself is what the tortoise needed to win a race he had no business even competing in. The Falcons and Patriots were far more evenly matched than those analogous animals. Not sure how I could have worded my question any clearer. I made no mention of OA. @@Stosh I clearly need to start a new thread next time. Lesson learned. Thought I was doing right by mentioning the age of this thread. @@NJCubScouter i remember you having to point out such occurrences before. Thanks @@F-P for the straight forward answer.
