  1. Hello, Scott. Welcome to the forum and thank you for all your do for Scouting!
  2. Eager to see the results of the poll. Hopefully this thread doesn't get locked too.
  3. Barry, what do you say in those courses?
  4. Joe, it sounds like you have the right attitude! Thank you for all you will do for your boys and welcome to the forum!
  5. TAHAWK if it's no big deal, why call someone out on it? Twice even. EmberMike, you're not at all the first and surely not the last.
  6. You know, pine needles like from Loblollies, Virginias, and Longleaf varieties among many others.
  7. I'm all for self improvement but their price tag was a turn off. Other free avenues are out there. Thanks for sharing, Uncle P. Hope your nephew is enjoying Scouts!
  8. Agreed! Believe me, I don't want to question whether or not a Scout fulfilled a requirement, but sadly, that's the reality at times. I'll gladly help those summer camp directors hoist that bar if I can!
  9. It's hard when staff from multiple summer camps consistently make errors and show inconsistencies in MB requirements on blue cards every summer. So Back Pack, you've never questioned or disagreed with the completed/partial MB report for your boys at the end of summer camp? Hmmm I'm hot sure how teaching a Scout to collect stamps is the same as serving in our Military, but ok... LOL don't worry Back Pack, I do.
  10. Wow. That trumps the one we saw this summer where a boy attend one day of Engineering yet completed all the MB requirements. We remind ourselves not to expect blue card perfection from college age volunteers.
  11. One possible reason: Our summer camp group's highest rank was two Second Class Scouts. One was SPL, the other ASPL. The boys decided. All other higher ranking Scouts in the Troop were at Philmont.
  12. This link currently works for those interested: https://beascout.scouting.org/
  13. I interpret that as $50.00. Now whether that is money you give him or money he has earned is entirely up to the two of you.
  14. I too have upvoted a post to even it out when someone accidentally downvoted it. I know my fingers have been guilty of hitting the wrong arrow a couple of times. An apology soon follows. I've also downvoted a few times and I've tried to make an effort to include a response with an explanation as to why I downvoted. I'm always interested in why someone downvotes a post. Maybe it's that the red catches my eye and takes me back to school when a red mark meant something. Sometimes I think an explanation should go hand-in-hand with the downvote. But then what about the up. . . ?
  15. The 'Popular' flair attached to Duct Tape's post (#6) indicates many agree with his interpretation, and I couldn't agree more. Wish I could upvote it twice. I will continue to upvote in agreement and downvote in disagreement. If a post is spam, moderators should remove it. Ridiculously off topic can be moved. Malicious posts can be reported. Simple.
  16. They changed the page. Shortly after TAHAWK posted the link I clicked on it and saw multiple pages of knives.
  17. I'll freely admit I don't own the image to the left of these words. Scrolling back up thru this thread to look at profile pics tells me Back Pack speaks true. Many are guilty. Myself included. As to the thread title, son's Troop use of MB worksheets is decided by each MBC. I personally don't require them, but I'm in the slight minority.
  18. This thread is a great example of how often experienced Scouters have conflicting beliefs on fairly straightforward topics. Where and when to wear a patch? Are we non-profit or not? No consensus sadly.
  19. I've never seen it worn on a front pocket - always the Scout's left sleeve. Left sleeve pocket maybe, but those style shirts are the exception in my experience. Maybe we should say put it on the arm not the chest
  20. Agreed. Glad to see there are 'viewing parties' across the country. Here's a link from my neck of the woods: http://nega-bsa.org/total-solar-eclipse/

  24. Keeping a thread on topic is also an uphill battle, Latin Scot. ☺ I read clivusmultrum's post as an attempt at humor. One I personally found successful, thus my upvote. Sometimes things are too serious around here...
