  1. I took it to mean the last 5 charter agreements for her particular unit.
  2. In one of the Facebook groups, a Scouter was looking for overseas pen pals for his/her scouts. I referred them to this Forum and mentioned @Cambridgeskip. Hope you don't mind.
  3. Now it's "just log into this ZOOM call and pretend to pay attention"....just like school.
  4. I am not a lawyer. However, I think it boils down to the fact that you do not have a current charter. You are NOT authorized to use BSA's name. Most if not all BSA materials are trademarked and copyrighted. And any advancement that occurs after 12/31/2021 will not be recognized and recorded by BSA. You are NOT covered by BSA insurance and, as you pointed out, a "broad release" form would be worthless. I would cancel everything until a new CO is found, or transfer to a unit in good standing. '
  5. My youngest Cub Scout turns 40 this weekend. How did that happen?
  6. I was in a 500 level Council. The last time I looked at the 990, maybe 10 years ago, there were only 2 employees listed over $50K. One was the SE at around $220K. The other was the Field Director.
  7. IMHO, this has always been a weakness in the MB program. I remember reading somewhere that the MBC should be considered an "expert by means of vocation or avocation", meaning (to me, anyway) that the Scout should get exposure to a field that he otherwise could not get. And don't get me started on "MB fairs" or "MB Universities". The purpose of the MB program has always been to get the Scout to take the initiative to call someone he does not know, set up an appointment, and meet independently (or with a buddy) with said "expert" to earn the badge. And to do all this OUTSIDE of the troop environment.
  8. Looks good if you have the trim, military physique to pull it off...most of my Scouter friends (myself included), do not.
  9. While I am sad to see these young people leave Scouting, I applaud their decision. Valuing friendships over the arbitrary and over-reaching rules of an organization means we have done our jobs. A Scout is Loyal.
  10. The postcards are a fundraiser, not their raison d'etre. The original purpose of NESA, as I recall, was to keep Eagle Scouts "connected" to the program and get them to continue to support Scouting at the Council level, both physically and financially. Over the years, there have been attempts to get a NESA "chapter" up and running in my Council with periodic breakfast and social meetings, but I don't think it ever went anywhere. The national organization also provides annual scholarships.
  11. Yes, the CO owns the assets, but if they have decided to bow out forever, the DE should be negotiating with them the disposition of the assets. The charter agreement and Regulations of the BSA state that the assets will revert to the Council if the CO is not going to retain them for future Scouting.
  12. That's the way it was back in my day...early 60s. COuld not begin working on a rank's requirements until the previous rank was awarded. I believe it was changed around the time of "First Class First Year", when they believed that once a Scout made FC, he was more likely to stay.
  13. Remind me of a Scoutmaster's Minute: "A man who was traveling came upon a farmer working in his field and asked him what the people in the next village were like. The farmer asked "What were the people like in the last village you visited?" The man responded "They were kind, friendly, generous, great people." "You'll find the people in the next village are the same," said the farmer. Another man who was traveling to the same village came up to the same farmer somewhat later and asked him what the people in the next village were like. Again the farmer asked "What were the people like in the last village you visited?" The second man responded, "They were rude, unfriendly, dishonest people." "You'll find the people in the next village are the same," said the farmer." No disrespect intended, but after many years on this forum, we know that there are at LEAST two sides to every story and we are only hearing one. I admire you for your passion and wanting nothing but the best for the Scouts, and wanting to start a new unit. But it will NOT be "your" unit...it will be the Chartering Organization's unit, and you will work for them. IF you can find one in these uncertain times. Scouting is a partnership, consisting of the Scouts, their parents, the adult volunteers, the CO, and the BSA. ALL must work together, and in harmony. All we can hope for is that we all "Do Your Best" to make a positive experience for the Scouts. Good luck, and God Bless.
  14. To address the original question, have you engaged your DE and Commissioner? Tell them you are losing your charter and ask them what they suggest. The professional staff is paid to ensure units survive and succeed.
  15. The religious medal to the left is the Eastern Orthodox Catholic award. Correction: Catholic, Eastern (Eastern Orthodox is different)
  16. Hard to tell....might be a Trail medal of some sort.
  17. The first requirement states, "Complete one year as a registered Den Leader..."
  18. Our FOS presentations always said $325 per scout if I remember correctly...and that was 20+ years ago.
  19. Boy Scouts of America Embraces Critical Race Theory – PJ Media
  20. Receiving my Pro Deo Et Patria award, circa 1969.
  21. What policy is it that "allows unscreened adults to be in charge on overnight trips"??
  22. The Scout Oath, Scout Law, Motto, Slogan, Obligation, Admonition, 10 Commandments, the Great Commandment. How about we just do those?
  23. Just to clear up any misconceptions...the religious awards are NOT BSA awards and it is not a BSA program. The award should be earned through the scout's religious leader and awarded by the church. It is one of the few non-BSA awards that the BSA allows to be worn on the uniform. (Medal OR square knot, not both).
