  1. Mic-O-Say and any other adault run program has no place is todays scouting program and should be outlawed or be forced to modify to meet the Boy run goals of the BSA.
  2. The State of NY is trying to buy Sabattis Scout Reservation in the Adirondacks. We are hoping the coucil gets smart and dumps the camp
  3. Here in Northern New York, we got lots of water for canoeing, come on up
  4. I can only speak of the laws in NY. A juvenile is someone under 16, and those records are sealed. 16 till your 19th birthday, you are a possible youthful offender, and depending on the offense it may or maynot be sealed, there is a complicated set of rules that we in the courts have to follow. But it sounds to me like this was handled offline, not in the judicial system. Thats why I asked about where this confirmation is coming from, and is it a trustworthy source. Unless you are 100% sure this is reliable information, I would not be asking or accusing this scout. Maybe the rout
  5. You say this has been confirmed. Confirmed by whom? and who is this person confirming this? what is his position reletive to the alleged incident(s)? I think your treading on shaky ground unless you have written proof that this scout commited these acts. Remeber, you would be accusing hom of committing a crime, so tread lightly.
  6. Second choice, call your state child abuse hotline.
  7. If this was a serious as you say, why was charges not prefered with the police? The answer to your delema is to have him arrested for a sex crime, then the SE will have no choice but to bounce him. This is another example of why well meaning folks should let the law do its job instead of trying to cover stuff up.
  8. Sometimes, in fact a lot of times the boys are better judges than the adults. What you have to look at is why they didn't elect him.
  9. 067-52-9856, I am not afraid to post mine cause its protected.
  10. The policy cited is exactly what the national policy is for those attending the National Scout Jamboree. Tshirt's must be scout related, like troop, camp, camporee type or a plain color shirt.
  11. your going to have to provide more info than this. What were they accused of? What does the SM say about it? Who at council threw them out and on what basis? Who are the accussors
  12. Have them open a port based on the program not the IP
  13. Acid Test, I am still waiting for my answer. What did you lose in these supposed ID thefts, cause it looks to me like your blowing t his way oout of porportion, because from your 3 examples they are filled with may's or possibles.
  14. Gold Winger said, "Heck, for me it always comes back to the fact that I can buy a gun and have the FBI do a criminal background check without needing my SSN. Why the heck can't BSA do that? " Not entirely true, When buying a weapon, they look first at Name and address, dob, if they get nothing they stop there, if they get a possible hit in the Criminal Justice system, then they start looking deeper and may ask for your SSN. I get NCIC inquiries from them all the time asking for records and peopls SSN are sometimes on the information provided.

  16. Acid Test, You said stolen 3 times. First was a large on-line music store who's system was hacked and everybody's credit card information was stolen. I can't remember the name of the store but they went out of business within 3 months of the breach. Second was Wells Fargo who had some of their computer servers stolen upon trying to physically move them from the US to India. They supposedly never landed in India and one or more of the servers contained my personal data. Third was Capital One, the company that issues my credit card. They have been very tight lipped on the situat
  17. SIgn them up, let them go. You will be surprised how well they do. Don't hold them back with the thought of 2013 as things may change and this is a special jambo too.
  18. Don't you think ChoicePoint already has a file on you already with your name, address, phone number, DOB, SSN, Vehicle history, Payment history, shoe size, what you bought last for lunch. Everything is already out there on some computer already, so what the heck does it matter
  19. These examples and many others do apply. If you are willing to over look this requirement, now the ball is rolling down the slippery slope. The rules are made to be followed. If you had stuck to your guns and said no, then this woulnot be a problem. The minute we compromise our integrity, then nothing matters.
  20. Call it what you may, narrow minded, short sighted, what ever. This problem is the troops own making. This is why kids quit, cause we don't enforce the rules. If he was in school taking a test and got a 40, would you pass him. If he stole from a store, would you say "oh thats fine, we will get harder next time"?? Again I ask, What rules are you not going to follow next?? or What about a scout that can't swim, lets just let him advance and move up?
  21. Let me be brutally honest and not mamby pamby this issue. Mark, you and all the adults that perpetuated this fraud should be removed from your position. The troop either disbanded or reorganized under leadership that doesn't cheat. Beacause this is out and out deceitful cheating. What rule are you guys gonna bend or break next?
  22. Time to get on my soap box on this one Speaking as a judge who see drivers arrested for DWI/DUI all the time. Driving under the influence is a CRIME, no ifs ands or buts. No excuses, no well it was my forst time, BULL!!! The first time your arrested is just the first time you got caught. DWI is a serious crime, and until people stop rationalizing it, it will never be taken seriously. If you bicked up the paper and read that 5-10 or what ever got arrested everyday for stealing everyone would be screaming bloody murder to have more police and stricter enforcement. You need to wa
  23. We have a comercial insurance policy in the troops name. The reason nationals rules are so vague is because of all the various venue's that BSA operates in. Like I said ask an attorney about your state rules
  24. Regardless of nationals or councils rules or even a CO's wishes, what happens to the assests is greatly dependant upon the laws of the state that you are in. In some state a scout troop is an unincorporated entity and can own assests on its own. Here in NY, the ownership of a units trailers and boats is clearly dependant on who's name is on the title. Ours says Troop XX, not the council or the CO. Learn your own state laws, as they differ tremendously
