  1. Is this number 2 or number 3 of the makeovers they have tried in the last few years?
  2. "The land east of Denver (flat praire) could be leased out from the farmers for the Jambo years (cover their crop loss), in fact, I think most of their crops is winter wheat anyways. Lots of giant 10K acre tracts out there. The farmers could just plow and replant during the off years. Close to a major airport and Amtrak station, support from a major metro area. Side trips to the Rocky mountains. Central to the US. Win win? " NO, Wouldn't work. The cost of building the site each time would be some serious money. The damage to the land would make it unuseable for farming for years.
  3. First off, most parents like the one here won't take training, don't want to be a leader, just want to be a royal pain cause they are always right. second, this is a venturing crew, over 14 yr old teens. If the parent doesn't want to follow the rules, then they banned. If they don't like that they can always go somewhere else. Most Teens I know if they liked Venturing would tell mom to go sit in the other room or not to come.
  4. Observing does not mean you have to be present in the room where the youth are running a meeting.
  5. Speaking as a New Yorker, I hope he doesn't quit. What do I care as long as he is doing a good job.
  6. Oak Tree, I have to disagree with you. Your reading too much into what the G2SS says. Do parents get to "Observe" at the NSJ anytime they want? NO! Do they get to Observe on a Canoe Trip the Crew or Troop is doing if they can't Swim, NO! There are lots of examples of this. Parents aren't allowed at PLC's or Crew leadership planning meetings. Like I said Tell the Parents the where the parents sit and if she doesn't like it she can take her venturer and leave. Be sure you say " Have a Nice Day" on the way out.
  7. You can ban a parent from being in the room where the youth meet. We Ban or block parents from attending lots of things. Philmont, Seabase, Northern Tier, even Troop of Crew activities that require a certain level of training or qualifications. You simply tell all the "Parents" that they are welcome to gather in the adjoining room where they can talk, gab, read or snooze as they see fit, but not in the youth meeting room. If a "Parent" chooses to not want to follow the rule, then tell them, thanks for comming, have a nice life, and oh by the way your son or daughter needs to leave wit
  8. In answer to your question, I don't bet, gambling is against my morals. I also have read anything that is publically available and then some stuff that only Judge can see. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion.
  9. Totally different case and circumstances. If I was ruling on this, I would rule against the township. I beleive they are in the wrong here. Only time will tell. Either way, I don't see CAC ever selling to OOEC. As to the $1Mil in attorney fee's, if they win the township has to pay them, so CAC would win twice.
  10. My opinion and the prevailing opinion in our council is, no venturers at NYLT. This is not an appropiate course. It is solely designed for a Boy Scout troop. Let the Venturers go to Venturing courses.
  11. You ask, what would happen? NOTHING. Our council and a couple of others have tried the Mandatory traing thing or you can't recharter. First year they would have lost 40% of units. Not happening. They just gave waivers
  12. I wouldn't count my chickens yet. This was only round 1 by a local judge who answers to the people in that area. I am betting it gets overturned on appeal.
  13. Your reading way to much into things The driver is over 18, there is no one on one as ther is 4 in car. The over 21 leader is in charge of trip and doesn't have to be in every car. People make things to complicated
  14. Not that I would doubt what Beavah has stated people at national told him, but my question who told you. Give us a name and position of this person. Second where does it say what they are saying in writing. If nothing else BSA does publish the rules on paper.
  15. They used to say that you would eat a peck of dirt before you turned 21, now some parents get upset if Jr. comes home with dirty hands.
  16. Retired from 26 yrs in the Army Now serving as a Judge in a Town Court.
  17. Even though I am involved in the legal system (as a Judge, but not a lawyer), I will contribute to the list Q: What is the one redemming thing the comunist do when they take over a country? A: Shoot all the lawyers!
  18. It really isn't going to matter because the one that are not trained won't show up at the new course anyway, atleast a majority won't. Then your CE will have to deceide like ours did who tried to enforce this rule, do I lose 25-30 percent of my units?
  19. I said "Before you talk to the CO, you need to get ALL the facts from an unbiased party, police, the Court or the DA. " Simply because you only have one side of the story. before you make any decision isn't it always prudent to get the whole story. I also said this because we hear this in court all the time "its not my fault, I didn't do it, It was her fault". Mostly from people who have just done a dumb thing, as may be the case here. Regardless if you like it or not he broke the law and he knew he was doing it when he did it. Now he is trying to justify that it really wa
  20. No judge I know issues orders without some basis. There has to be an official complaint, police report or justifiable reason why before one is issued. Regardless if it was later vacated, the issue is he was given an order to stay away and he (according to what you said he admitted to) choose to ignore it. Nice guy or not, he broke the law. The issue of if it was later vacated is of no bearing what so ever. He was told to stay away and choose to ignore it. So what rule is he going to ignore next because he thinks its not necessary or does not apply to him?? If it was my ord
  21. Before you talk to the CO, you need to get ALL the facts from an unbiased party, police, the Court or the DA. Speaking from experiance as a Judge who has issued many many Orders of Protection,ie Restraining Order , depending on state. Violation of one can be a serious offense. In NY, Violating an OP like you described is a Felony. Usually these are not issued lightly and with out good reason. Without knowing why he did what he did, be very careful about saying it was unnecessary to begin with.
  22. The big problem I see is its not scoutnet compatable, so your back to paper stuff with council again
  23. 45 foil dinners? Very small number. When we did Cub Scout Outdoor Skills Day, everyone made and ate Foil dinners for lunch. Our best year was over 300 all made, cooked and ate in 90 min along with DO deserts.
  24. The time to fool around with these adaults is over. Take his case directly to council so he can get the process on the road. These adaults new better, this was an ambush on an unsuspecting scout and they should be called on the carpet for it. The only way to make the advancement process work is to call those that abuse the system for thier own little kingdoms.
