dluders, and all, I see 2 things here, first I dislike a policy that has hard and fast percentages. They limit your ability to work with scouts properly. Get rid of that policy quick. second is, like others I want to see this "National Policy" that says registered equals active. I for one can tell you it doesn't exist. No one has ever produced a document from national that says that. "Ask ANDY" is just another scouters opinion, just that an opinion. We have a rule in our council, the leader can not be the responible adult for another child. They need to concentrate on the group.

Whats going to happen is the will end up banning all groups.

dluders There is a uniform national policy. it is exactly what ajmako quoted. So if your council or district is setting a policy that contavines this, you need to protest it all the way to national if necessary.

You need to ask the DE in writing where his authority for issueing this policy comes from. A. He has no authority to issue this. B. Its against national advancement policy. C. If they denied a youth advancement because of it, national would squash him like a bug. and send a copy of your letter to SE, Council & District advancement Chairman.

de4bsa, You seem to forget just whom you work for. It obvous that you don't like volunteers and they way an industrious SM got extra funds for his troop. If I was him, after I got rid of you I would have a talk with the UW about my 1500 that they owed me. If they didn't come up with it, I would be speaking to the newspaper about how the council and UW cheated the boys. And yes its perfectly legal to take money when someone gives it to you. I just hope that his lawyer and the DA reach some agreement that won't ruin his future. When I read the charges and told them they were facing up to 43 yrs in Jail if they were convicted of all the counts, The look on thier face was one of shock. I don't think they expected that at all. Word was passed to me today that his mother chewed on his butt from the moment the Jailers let him out the door all the way till they couldn't hear her any more. I think it kind of took him by surprise when I walked in. And he never really looked me in the eye. So maybe, just maybe he knows he screwed up. What these young gentleman did was have a beer too many, both are under 21. Then got in truck went for a ride, had a "BRILLIANT" idea to whack rural mailboxes with a baseball bat. The total number of Mailboxes damaged/destroyed was about 40. Some people just let it go, 23 didn't, hence 23 seperate charges. Each one punishable by a year in jail. What bothers me I guess is I was SM when he Made Eagle.

Let me begin by telling you that amongst my many jobs I am the Judge in our Town Court. This evening I was called by the NY State Police to do an arraignment on 2 young men on 23 counts of Criminal Mischief. Imagine to my surprise a great disappointment when they brought these 2 young men into the court room and one of them turns out to be a past member of my troop who made Eagle scout about 4 yrs ago. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Just what one wants to do on a Sunday evening, put one of my Eagle scouts in Jail.

Call the Lodge advisor, he will nip this in the bud right away if he is smart. Does this mean that a troop that had no members never gets to have an election??

When is it to cold? its never to cold if your prepared for it. 3 yrs ago we camped out prior to our Klondike, it got down to -30 at night. Was it cold, you bet, was we cold, not really. We had Quinzees to sleep in, and were well prepared. You cam camp in anything if your prepared. If you said the older scouts were prepared for camping, then why not split the unit, let them camp and the younger scouts come out during the day.
