  1. "Its my understanding that all male LDS youth are automatically registered in their ward's LDS scouting unit whether they participate or not. So if he chose to join another unit, he would essentially be dual registered." A youth in Boy scouts can not be registered in more than one troop, its against national policy. BS/CS can only register one time.
  2. Beavah Your right, this is a crock, there is no policy on owning buses. There are lots of troops that own them. That said owning a bus has lots of good points, and lots of bad points also.
  3. The answer is simple. We told our parents camp end Saturday, not friday night and thats when the scouts go home. We have never had a problem since.
  4. I fail to see why both cannot go one at the same time. WB is not going to affect this in any way except that 13 older scouters cannot attend camporee, so what? Its pbvious that location is not the issue, just that these 13 old "Poop-Heads" can't have thier way. Time for them to get over it
  5. Fscoter said, "Confessed what?" Confessed to being an icky "GIRL" of course, so you could have drum her out of scout.
  6. What you should have done was hang her by her ankles until she confessed
  7. Seems to me that this is a parent responsibility to insure he doesn't buy a knife. Its not the Trading post or leaders job to supervise what this youth spends his money on. Where were the parents?? If he has problems and was sent home, why wasn't a parent there all along
  8. If I was a betting man I can see one reason why your son was not elected. You said " I did forget to mention in my earlier post that my son was called out once two years ago but because my wife and I did not understand what the OA was("Secret Society") etc. etc. we discouraged him from accepting. " I am betting that the scouts remember him being elected, called out and not following through. Now he wants to be elected again, and they are saying no way. We honored you once and you let us down, why should we honor you again? We had this very same thing happen in several troops.
  9. Before I speculate, I would like to know clearly what the issue is here. Hard to give clear advice without understanding what is wrong.
  10. I would say a couple of things here as a retired SM. 1. Since he hasen't been notified, He probably was not elected. 2. Your SM has done HIM, not you a disservice by not telling him he was not elected. We always told those not elected the nite of the call out. 3. There is no appeal or redoing of elections. The vote of the boys is final and cannot be challanged unless there were voting irregularities. Only the Chief of the Fire can void an election. But before you thought about entertaining that thought, think long and hard about the consequences to your son. 4. So
  11. What you have here is poor positioning in the placement of the range. No one gave noise off the camp any thought and since this is a brand new permanent facility is kind of hard to move. I see this as a lose lose situation no matter the outcome.
  12. Not to sound picky, but if he completed the last 2 on his 18th birthday, they don't count, he aged out.
  13. Got that rule in writing by chance or is this another Scouting legand? Our WB guys know nothing of such a rule.
  14. If you read the story the SE did reimburse for the drinks. There is a big difference between a scout camp where youth are and a trip like this.
  15. Other than some people drinking a little booze, What is wrong with this? I say nothing!! Sout Exec, like the manages of any large non-profit have meeting and get togethers such as this all the time, so why should they be any different? How many of you have gone to a business conference and had a drink? or Stayed in a decent hotel??
  16. Never heard of any such rule relating to useing a kudo horn, neither has anyone at our coucil. Where is that wrote down?
  17. Sounds like someone has way TOOO much time on thier hands to be writing troop policies like this. Common sense should be driving this one. Follow the rules as stated by national and the driving laws of your state. Thats enough.
  18. You cannot make them inactive. That catagory doesn't exist anymore. Just tremove them from troop, refund camp money and say "see ya later, BYE"
  19. It appears that National has finally put into print a definition of Active. Now I would tell you that if you read it very carefully you can see there is still room for Troops to still hold scouts to a standard. "He is engaged by his unit leadership on a regular basis (Scoutmaster conference, informs the Scout of upcoming unit activities, through personal contact, and so on). " Now tell me what that means and what is "regular"???
  20. I would suggest taking a month or 2 off from meetings. Be available for help and consulting. Call the new SM periodically to discuss things and encourage him/her. Never give unsolicited advice like "When I was SM, we did it XXX way" Let them learn.
  21. If you buy an inexpensive tent , this is one of the problems you get. Waterfroofing a rainfly just doesn't work. You need a decent quaility name brand tent with a full coated rain fly. Those usually keep the water on the outside where it belongs
  22. he reason for BB Guns and Archery rule is lack of qualified instructors and Age limits contained in state laws. In NY no one may have a youth use a rifle who is less than 12 yrs old. Its a crime and does restrict some activities,
  23. Its just a shame that more Dads are discouraged or out right told they can't join in and help out with thier daughters troops.
