  1. Having been my districts Advancement Chair for several years, it sounds as if you have a reasonable case for appeal. Good luck.
  2. You would never want to go against "her who must be obeyed". Better give the speech quick, and make it good.
  3. Thanks for sharing, I had a boy in my troop save his brothers life doing the Heimlich manuver. I felt the same thing, he must have been listening more than I realized. The boy in my troop recieved the Medal of Merit, definately see that this fine young man gets nominated for it.
  4. I see nothing wrong with a brief review after that much elapsed time.
  5. Great idea, it helps the boy organize his advancement, but keeps him in charge of it.
  6. The Sinnissippi/ Four Lakes merger was completed 8/1/5. New coucil name has yet to be determined.
  7. Great story. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Yes, you must be registered in the BSA to be a current member of an OA lodge, but it doesn't matter what branch of the BSA. Venturing is acceptable.
  9. Typical liberal BS. But I do point out to the boys when we go places that they are representing the BSA, and when they do something like not display proper respect at military monuments for example, their actions stand out like a sore thumb.
  10. I tell the new leaders at training that knots serve as good ice breakers to initiate conversation between leaders, and also serves to motivate boys. Plus it give leaders witha little more experience someone to look for. For example, if you are a new Weblos Den Leader, look for someone wearing the Weblos Den Leader Award knot if you have any questions.
  11. Some nice ideas Bob, in an ideal world it would be great, but unfortunately, this is not an ideal world. Wish it was. Jeff
  12. Almost any temporary patch can be worn on the right pocket. If Trevorum is referring to patches that are issued by parks that stand for a trail hike, or something that can be completed by scouts, I feel the answer is yes.
  13. The first four are also offered at summer camp, making them more accessable. Thanks for the intersting info. Jeff
  14. If a boy has earned Swimming merit badge, and the Second and First Class requirements are required for the merit badge, then the boy has completed his Second and First Class swimming requirements and should have them recorded as being completed.
  15. I always tell boys about to attain the Eagle rank, "Whether you like it or not, the world is going to hold you to a higher standard from now on."
  16. Guide to Safe Scouting would be a good reference to start with.
  17. Having been to 2 jamborees I feel that the boys who are toally obsessed with patch trading to the exclusion of everything else are few and far between. Most do it to meet new people, like other posters have already stated.
  18. Sounds like you are attempting to do all the right things. You attempt to teach the kids appropriate behavior, and keep the parents informed as much as possible. Unfortunately, some parents insist on making things difficult. You are right, whenever problems occur there is always two sides to the story. Kicking the kid out of the pack after one minor? incident seems a little extreme. I see all kids as a work in progress, and it is the purpose of the scouting program to see that this work has a chance to be successfully completed. If it gets to the point where this kids actions are endange
  19. Nice post. It's often not that the questions we ask are bad, just that they are not asked in the best manner.

    Neckerchief

In the ideal world, a neckerchief design would be decided on by the boys when a troop is formed, and tradition would make them want to continue with it. I've never had a troop vote to decide to change their neckerchief design, but I'm sure it occurs all the time, it's up to the unit's boys to decide what they want to do.
