  1. Glad you're enjoying yourself. Your appreciation of being a Fox will only grow as time goes by. C-11-96
  2. My council, Glacier's Edge, offers free rank patches to troops that meet certain criteria. The program has a catchy title and everything, I think its called Gold Star unit , or something, but you get the idea.
  3. Hello, Some ot the things I have seen done, scout pens, Norman Rockwell prints, coffee mugs/ soft drink mugs with scouting themes, scouting key chains, you get the idea.
  4. My worst nightmare is to have to call a parent after a scout outing and tell them that their son isn't coming home.
  5. I am involved with a pretty poor troop right now, but they still get the mothers pins for court of honors. Any troop that I have ever been involved with has always done this.
  6. By all means, let the PLC decide.
  7. Sounds like a very talented, inventive young man. I think he came up with a winning idea, nothing wrong with it.
  8. Yes, a thank you/congratulatory letter is always appropriate.
  9. I agree with summer camp being the highlight of the scouting year. It has been my experience that Weblos who cross over and don't go to summer camp, don't last very long in boy scouting.
  10. My council has a Cub Scout Day Camp for Wolves, and Bears, and Camp Akela which is overnight for three days for the Weblos.
  11. 3 miles one way I'm the commissioner so I'm kind of expected to be there
  12. I have always started by reviewing the scouts experiences, what he has learned, if there's anything he feels he could have done different. Then a discussion of what attaining the rank of Eagle means to him, and what his future goals are. Finally, a hearty dose of congratulations for a job well done, and some reccomendations for the upcoming BOR.
  13. Hi Eamonn, As a former Venture Crew Advisor, I have noticed that the young ladies are years ahead of the young men in regards to emotional maturity. I saw the same thing, the young ladies would get the jobs done, it has nothing to do with the young men having been in scouts. I also noticed the same thing that you have, the kids would real enthusiastic at storming sessions, and then not follow through with the execution without being "ridden". I'm sure that there are people out there that will disagree with me, but today there are so many activities for young people to be involved with, they get too involved and just won't take the time to run a crew/ship. Just my 2 cents, if anyone out there has any ideas to motivate these young people, I'm more than happy to hear them.
  14. I agree with Beavah, it is not appropriate for a troop to be conducting a crossover ceremony when none of the boys are joining that troop. By all means, pass the other requests on to the appropriate groups in charge of making the decisions, PLC etc..
  15. Thanks for the explanation. What a mess. Sure hope you folks can make some progress with the courts, since nothing else seems to be working.
  16. This may be a stupid question, but if this Council Executive Board has really violated procedure this blatently, where is National? Or is this what everybody else is asking too?
  17. It has been my experience that the boys enjoy the opportunity for scout skills competition. I have heard this suggested by the boys several times when planning for camporees.
  18. I have seen several boys whose parents pushed them to get their Eagle. Once it was earned, these boys didn't even want a ceremony, and dropped out of scouting shortly after. The boy has to want to earn it in order for the accomplishment to mean anything.
  19. Welcome to the forum bfletcher. My son was also diagnosed with PDD , and wanted to join scouts. I encountered many of the same things you did. In one troop, the kids wouldn't stop picking on him. We joined another troop where the kids at least left him alone, but he didn't have any close friends either. He preservered and finally got his Eagle, and earned the Bronze Hornaday award. He moved on to Venturing and earned his Silver award, and Ranger award. We had several parents wanting my son out of the troop also, and they spread nasty rumors around the troop. Luckily there were a few individuals who stuck up for him. You are right, there should be a place in scouting for your son, I hope things work out for you and your family, it is a shame that your son has been put in a lone scout program, I hope it works out for him.
  20. Congratulations to the both of you. When I was a Scoutmaster, I must admit that this was one of my favorite tasks to perform.
  21. Why stop now? It only takes 1 hour per week!!!!!
  22. Same with us. I would like to give immediate recognition, but the advancement form must be turned in first. If you award a rank pin, it is placed on the left pocket instead of the patch.
  23. 1969 Jamboree as a youth. 1999 Philmont with my son. 2001 Jamboree on staff with my son.
