  1. Yes, you need to question the candidate on how he demonstrated leadership and organizational skills to accomplish the project. His answers will determine whether or not he passes. Every boy must be treated individually, since every boys level of ability is so different. Having preset guidelines as to who does what percentage of the work is adding to requirements, which is strictly against national advancement procedure. If you keep following this procedure, and a scout decides to challenge it, you're going to get shot down very quickly by council, regional, or national.
  2. Welcome to the forum. An Eagle can personalize his ceremony any way he wants. He has worked hard to get to that point, and he can be recognized any way he sees fit. An Eagle charge is a nice part of a ceremony, but it doesn't have to be there if the Eagle doesn't want it.
  3. Yes, all requirements for the rank, including tenure must be complete before the Board of Review can be conducted. Merry Christmas
  4. I am in awe of your courage. I don't think I would be able to stay awake all night anymore.
  5. Is anybody else having the same problem I am with this website? Every time I go into a section, and then try to go back out, my computer locks up and I have to exit totally. Is this why we have gone from 1,000 to 200 users lately?
  6. People have been flamed on this forum for suggesting teaching of merit badges at scout meetings. Ideally the boy and his buddy should meet with the counselor.
  7. Bobwhites, taste great, less filling. Foxes rule. C1196
  8. If you get paid to provide scouting, you're a professional. If you don't get paid to provide scouting, you're a volunteer. If you pay to provide scouting, you're a scouter.
  9. If things cannot be mended with the Scoutmaster, the boy can still have his Eagle BOR. I had a situation like this years ago as District Advancement Chair. A boys Scoutmaster refused to sign the Eagle application for what we considered to not be responsible reasons. The District BOR was conducted anyway, and the boy recieved his Eagle.
  10. Hi have a couple of green thermal undershirts to wear in the winter with a short sleeve shirt. Never occured to me to get a red one, thanks for the idea.
  11. The story reflects my thoughts exactly. Amen
  12. I echo FScouter. Split the Den immediately. You don't have to feel guilty in the least. It is the responsibility of each family to make sure their son has a quality scouting experience.
  13. There are several people who you can call on for assistance. The Charterer Organization Rep (COR) Unit Commissioner District Commissioner District Executive Any, or all of these individuals are available to help you get help. Call them. Good luck.
  14. I've been acssociated with troops that have held elections every 6 months, and others have held them annually.
  15. We have a local hobby shop that sells the holders for baseball cards.
  16. In a nutshell, it's the job of the committee to support the program. Making sure the boys and adult leaders get what they need to run the program. The CC's job is to make sure the committee does its job.
  17. The 6 hours of service work must benefit the community, or a non-profit organization. I have heard opinions on both sides whether or not service hours for the BSA would count or not. I'm sure somebody out there has the exact page of the appropriate reference on that, but I don't at the moment. This is a good way to get scouts to help out fellow scouts with their Eagle projects.
  18. Wood Badge is fast paced, but you will enjoy every minute of it. I was really pumped up after every weekend, no way was I tired. Good luck and enjoy. I used to be a Fox. C-11-96

    Neckwear Options

I have never heard of a troop prohibiting any type of neckwear, but I guess there's always a first time.
  20. Lately I have come to the conclusion not to tell jokes of any kind, anytime. In the liberal society we are being subjected to more each day, you can't tell a jole without offending somebody. And everybody knows that there is nothing worse in the world than inadvertantly offending someone.
  21. Thanks for the insightful comments, you are right, its good to see a 8 page post not beginning with the letter G.
  22. I agree with Kudu, use it for a campout shirt, then remove any patches you might want to save and throw it out.
  23. Sometimes we resort to "virtual patrols" because of not enough participation. Is it proper and the best way to do things? Probably not. Adults never do cooking for the boys. We sleep in 2 man tents.
  24. This topic has gone around in circles for a long time. There have been many valid points brought up for and against cell phone use at camp. I guess it all boils down to what each individual unit wants to do. I think everybody has flogged this dead horse enough.
