  1. One of my ASMs has a red jacket from when he was a scout. He was in scouting around 25+ years ago, so you guys do the math. I have never seen one before him, and still haven’t seen one.
  2. Just found this post now. (I hate this new software.) I’m a current youth as most know. I’m saying flat out that it’s most likely not because he has ADHD or is taking classes (which is great that he is helping himself). Scout Troops have the amount of drama as school has, including the same issues. Older scouts usually want to play games with older scouts only, or want to play with their friends. I’ll admit I’ve said no before since I wanted to play with the older scouts & my friends. I wouldn’t take this personally, I over think everything as well. I would’ve thought the s
  3. If you or one of your members don’t want to register a merit badge counselor in order to sign off on the badge, you can contact the council to get a name & number of one and then do the merit badge on their behalf, providing the lessons, instruction space, etc. Of course they would be there to supervise and all, but you would share your knowledge before fulfilling the requirements. Boy Scout Summer Camps work that way. A staff member (usually 6 in a Program area) teaches 2-3 Merit badges, but are usually under 18 and can not register as a MBC. So the director of the area is usually th
  4. Ah, that makes sense. I would understand for a backpacking trip like that.
  5. Only time we cabin camp is in the winter, or when it’s going to be below 10 degrees. No sicknesses for me please.
  6. I have just read a article posted by @WisconsinMomma regarding 11 Eagle Scouts in one year. One had gotten the idea to make dog beds after overhearing a humane society employee. It made me think, how do most scouts figure out their project? I found mine by visiting a adult day Center through clinical hours at my vocational high school. For those Eagles, parents of Eagles, or even future Eagle, how did you figure out your project?
  7. Heck I would use paper plates too! But, your sort is sort of different. It was preplanned that it would be paper products, adults cooking, etc. I believe this is a every camping trip for them. Wish my Troop did this for us. And yes, I’m really curious how it’s on other camping trips.
  8. Better not come to my Council I feel like those with little income will have trouble if this spreads to other councils. I have around 5 scouts in my troop that depend on financial assistance. If they can’t always afford summer camp, how will they afford 100+ dollars in obtaining a RANK?

ClassB.com is a good website, my troop has used it before. I would try a local shop to see if they will give you a discount.
  10. I’m sorry but, I would forget him. I would explain your situation to another MBC and have the SM back him up and the MBC can do a brief session recapping everything to ensure completion. If he filled out the workbook, that would probably help a little as well. I have had this happened to me & others I know. We explained our situation to another MBC. The MBC might be having health issues, personal issues, family issues, who knows.
  11. I thought you had meant the meeting guide, my sincere apologies. I am really sorry if I came off as defensive or rude. When I read my own post again, it seemed like I was trying to be rude, which was not my intent. (Text can be interpreted in so many ways) I don’t believe that I have ever heard/saw a SPL guidebook, is there a online version?
  12. Most of the “games” require supplies we don’t have. Also for some want you to plan a camp out for a certain week, which we can’t just do always. It is more logistics and planning. I like to go more in depth with topics than how they describe it. I have my Troop spend about a month and a 1/2 on First Aid. I want them to know it, as it is in my opinion one of the most important things one need to know. The meeting plan does not outline all the things that one needs to know, if they do, it’s only for a brief second. Remember, every Troop is different.
  13. As I said before, I have used the book and did not benefit a small troop like mine.
  14. The text formatting in posts are a bit wonky, for me at least. The text in a post on a laptop/desktop is on bold. On mobile, it is not bold. If I type something in bold on my phone, it shows up unformatted on my laptop. Not sure if this is intentional or just a simple bug.
  15. I just learned that this weekend! I thought all those other campsites were for display.
  16. Then why ask us if you already have the answer. If you feel that they will confuse him, then pull him aside and just kindly say. Don’t make it like a big deal or anything. Just like make sure you say it’s for the kids sake.
  17. If he has paid his dues, I don’t see why he can’t wear a uniform without trained patch or a position. And I would ask him to remove those knots.
  18. I honestly found the SPL guidebook a complete waste. Most of the meeting plans are not useable for small troops, as we don’t have money to buy new supplies every month for a one time use. I have edited them before, otherwise I make my own.
  19. Didn’t know what else to put as the title so please excuse it. Anyway, my troop has recently shared a cabin with another Troop. We noticed how we were completely different and did things different (nothing wrong with that). They used paper products, we used mess kits. They used plastic cups, we used refillable water bottles. The adults did a decent amount of cooks, we have adults only supervise. They take their time on a Sunday, cooking a full meal and not leaving until 12, we have a quick meal and leave by 8-9. My biggest issue was their Leadership, I had to track down people
  20. I feel if if National doesn’t use key words, which make it longer, there would be easy loop holes and other ways to get out of doing the requirement correctly.
  21. I suggest talking to your CO and asking if you can help them. I’m sure they always need something done. example: Our CO is a American Legion Post, and whenever they go to veteran homes we always come and aide. So 4 times a year x 4 hours about each = 16 hours not including our other projects. Its so simple to find community service projects, but I don’t believe that a new scout should need the responbility of finding hours right now.
