Don't feel bad. They don't have but half my training from 2005 to today, despite me entering it several times.
-
Curious, does the UK require two deep leadership? I don't talk or otherwise interact with any youth without another adult I trust being present.
-
That's hard to believe? Not everyone can teach. Not everyone can communicate effectively. Not everyone knows as much as they think they do. My wood Badge experience is similar to a few here. Not worth the time or effort. Tel me, what's was I supposed to learn in those two weekends. Four folks my troop just finished and they're just as baffled.
-
If you didn't get anything out of wood Badge look in the mirror? Really? So it's our fault the pompous scouters can't teach a poor course with little real meat in it? I think that's the attitude Flagg is talking about.
-
And % of people truly gay or transgender is no where near what people pretend it to be. To watch TV you'd think it 30% of the population or more.
-
And how does any of this make one a better leader, increase their scoutcraft or teach them something useable in advancing the patrol method?

Backpacking/lightweight tent cots
Back Pack replied to mashmaster's topic in Equipment Reviews & Discussions
That will work. He can attach it to all the scrub brush and tumble weeds. You've clearly never been to West Texas. Hammocks will work in east and parts of central Texas. West Texas has two trees....145 miles apart. -
Backpacking/lightweight tent cots

I have and I returned mine. In the end I chose to put my money in a very light weight, insulated air mattress. I also spent the money on a light weight chair. Much more functional. -
Should BSA develop a "Classic Scouting"
Back Pack replied to RememberSchiff's topic in Issues & Politics
That's my point. In my area we have an old Scouter that teaches PM. Most who take the course simply think it's nice. Many never try to implement it. Despite getting a road map on how to. I wish BSA would teach it. -
Bull! What reason can he fall back on that doesn't violate what he's required to do under his role as MBC?

Does he realize that he needs you to make his goals? What a moron.

Please note the section of the GTA where this is allowed. Because what I see is this: 7.0.0.3 The Scout, the Blue Card, and the Unit Leader A few merit badges have certain restrictions, but otherwise any registered Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, or quali ed Venturer or Sea Scout may work on any of them at any time. So unless you have a section of the GTA that contradicts this section, you're not allowed. BSA frowns on group instruction? Really? 7.0.3.2 Group Instruction It is acceptable—and sometimes desirable—for merit badges to be taught in group settings. This often occurs at camp and merit badge midways, fairs, clinics, or similar events, and even online through webinars. These can be ef cient methods, and interactive group discussions can support learning. Group instruction can also be attractive to “guest experts†assisting registered and approved counselors. Slide shows, skits, demonstrations, panels, and various other techniques can also be employed, but as any teacher can attest, not everyone will learn all the material. Because of the importance of individual attention and personal learning in the merit badge program, group instruction should be focused on those scenarios where the bene ts are compelling.

Well the standard answer would be support, training, admin coordination (forms, awards, mb classes, scout shop, governance, etc).

Adults cannot set rank or age requirements for MBs. Perhaps getting the cooking MB might inspire him.

Sorry, I don't er wowed by celebrities. I can admire people for their accomplishments but that doesn't put me in awe of them. Check that, the infantryman that was in Mosul or the gal who was a recon medic...they I am in TOTAL awe of.

I would run this past your Scoutmaster. If you do it privately, meaning not endorsed by the troop, then that's up to you and your friends. If you want to make it an official troop platform, that's a whole different story. This will need your SM and likely your troop committee to weigh in. Our guys built a private Minecraft server only for members. They worked it in to one of the technology MB classes. Network and server security were built in, as well as language filters, logging and TK rules engines. Worked great. I will note though that Boy Scouts is about spending LESS time on technology and more time outdoors.

I did not know of, nor did I seek out, said knot. However, a well meaning person in our troop put the Scoutmaster up for it. It was a big surprise. He was humbled. Also not a seeker of such things.

To me, the nobility are the often unsung unit leaders or volunteers that never do wood badge or other such things. Rather they coach the kids over the decades, build a solid program and churn out solid, well trained young men. The beads, knots, sashes and medals don't say near as much to me as this, but that's just me. Most true "Scouting nobility" we will never hear of.

How many times do YOU get agreement on something with people you are working with, who come back AFTER THE FACT and AFTER approving what you did, and saying, "Ya know that contact we signed and I approved? Forget it. Do it again or do something else. I've chanaged my mind!!" Of the patently ridiculous statements in this thread, that's the one that takes the cake.
-
Well the designers need to step in to the real world to see how the program they have designed really runs. That Ivory Tower thinking doesn't work. Most years we are lucky to get untrained parents to be Den leaders, let alone an experienced leader. If you want membership to rise, think retention, not new acquisition. That's customer service 101.
-
No. What we need is a process that will match what the expected outcome is. No one goes through all those steps just to get to a BOR and have someone torpedo him and his work. The final decision MUST come when everyone signs the final report and either accepts or rejects the project as having met the requirements. Doing such at the EBOR is not only silly, it's unfair!

In our troop there's a high correlation between the Cubs whose dens met once a month and them leavin Boy Scouts by 12-13. Those who met twice a month or more lasted much longer.

No word from my Council. I expect word some time in 2023.

Boys and Girls (Co-Ed) Cub and Boy Scouts Are Coming
Back Pack replied to Midwest Scouter's topic in Issues & Politics
What is a family doing at a Boy Scout camp out? Sorry man, that's Cub scouts not Boy Scouts.
