  1. Yet no one raises an eyebrow to male genital mutilation, something I was a victim of as an infant 65 years ago. It is still being performed, some for religious reasons, most for some misguided concept of "hygiene" and aesthetics, in spite of overwhelming medical evidence to the contrary. At least today, I hear that they use some form of anesthesia.
  2. Might also want to keep your SE in the loop...they get real touchy when we accept donations under the auspices of the BSA.
  3. Well, @RichardB, my opinion has changed 180 degrees based on recent developments. The evidence is trickling in that these "drug delivery devices" are not as "safe and harmless" as the manufacturers led us to believe. They are clearly being marketed to kids and the clueless. Let's go buy a vial of unknown chemicals at a shady "vape shop" and heat it to around 1500 degrees and inhale the combustion products deep into the alveoli of our tender young growing lungs. What could possibly go wrong? Yes, ban them. No place in a Scouting venue.
  4. In my area, the city will take away your Christmas tree for free...just drag it to the curb on trash day. We used to annually take part in a local troop's mulch sale...place orders in advance, then on the designated Saturday, a pickup truck and trailer full of mulch would show up and a bunch of Scouts would haul wheelbarrows full of mulch to your yard and dump them where you wanted...in the driveway, or at individual beds. They wouldn't spread it, but the service was fantastic!. Also, the local high school girl's volleyball team would have a leaf raking service...order in advance and the whole team would show up with rakes and bags and within about an hour, the whole yard would be raked and bagged. They asked for donations, but I think my wife would always hand them about $200. It was well worth it as we are getting on in years.
  5. I grew up in the 50s and 60s when gas stations gave out free maps. Worked just fine.
  6. We used to have Santa stop by the December pack meeting and hand out Pinewood Derby kits paid for by the Pack.

  8. Perhaps rather than stew over semantics, we should focus on the proper and complete wearing of the uniform.
  9. "Class A" and "Class B" are military specific terms. The BSA prefers not to use military terms when describing uniforming.
  10. https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34427.pdf This form has to be approved by the SE prior to any unit fundraising activity. This requirement was covered in your training.
  11. With respect, @RichardB, if common sense were a common virtue, we wouldn't need you OR the G2SS at all, and I would not have enjoyed a 45 year career in Occupational Health and Safety as a CIH. "They" is the members of the FB group who raised the issue, insisting that ANYONE who is present to participate in an Eagle project is REQUIRED to fill out and submit a BSA Medical form. Really? Yes, we can discuss hypotheticals all day long, but your "clear and concise" language leaves little to interpretation.
  12. Some camps run this program ... give the adults a list of things to accomplish over the week, and award a "merit badge" for completion. Not an official BSA badge, but keeps them busy.
  13. It is not official, but could be worn as a temporary patch on the right pocket.

This is what they are hanging their argument on. ANY and ALL Scouting activities and ALL Participants. I agree...never seen it, nor would I ever enforce it. RichardB...any thoughts?
  15. Discussion happening now over on Facebook. Are BSA Medical Forms required of NON-BSA members (friends, relatives) participating in Eagle Projects?
  16. I agree...when I was a Cub in the early 60s, one uniform for all...the only thing that changed was the rank badges and when one became a Webelos, the "W" diamond replaced the den number on the right sleeve. It was a serious goal and right of passage to finally be able to discard that blue uniform for a brand new green Scout uniform of the Tenderfoot. Is it a by-product of the "everyone is special and deserves recognition" attitude? "Oh, you've survived another year, now you get a new necker, belt buckle and hat!"
  17. The only problems I see are the tent flaps are not properly rolled up. Points off on inspection! Also, if it rains, that rug is going to get wet .
  18. My wife retired as a school nurse (RN). She had a student go into anaphylaxis due to a peanut allergy. The kid knew he was allergic and he had epi-pens, but the mom just couldn't find the time to bring one to school. Wife had to use another student's epi pen and was seriously in fear of losing her nursing license, because it was someone else's drug and there was no Dr order in place. The ER doc told her she had saved his life. Everyone sorta looked the other way, but if the kid had died, she would not have been able to continue in that job, both emotionally and legally. My 36 year old son has recently and suddenly become allergic to shellfish. He was eating some shrimp when his throat started itching real bad and closing down. He tested it again a few weeks later by taking a small bite...same reaction. So, after a lifetime of loving shrimp, he is now unable to eat it. Carrying an epi-pen in the first aid kit is risky if it is not prescribed and used for the individual prescribed. It is illegal to give prescription drugs to someone else. Just be aware of the risk you are taking.
  19. Your GrandDad is listed as Eagle Scout #12 on that troop's website "List of Eagles" - 1957

  21. Home Depot. Cut it to size.
  22. The current requirements for Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouting, involve earning 21 merit badges including the 13 in this list[4]: Camping Personal Fitness Personal Management Swimming, Hiking, or Cycling First Aid Citizenship in the Community Citizenship in the Nation Citizenship in the World Cooking Family Life Emergency Preparedness (E-Prep) or Lifesaving Environmental Science or Sustainability Communication The above 13 are considered the "Eagle Required" badges. All others are "electives" and can be whatever the scout chooses. There are none required for advancement until Star and Life which require six MB (4 required) for Star and 5 MB (3 required) for Life, for a total of 11. Ten more must be earned for Eagle for a total of 21.
  23. Well, as I was raised (Lutheran) THE most important "duty to God" is to believe and have faith. Mark 16:16
  24. If this was at summer camp, what was the Camp's policy? The camp I attended required ALL meds (youth AND adults) be turned in during medical check in and were held at the health lodge. Anyone needing a dose had to report to the health lodge to have it recorded. If you didn't show up, they came looking for you. Inhalers and epi=pens were the exception, of course.
