  1. By all means, take it back. If enough shirts get returned, maybe something will be done about the quality.

    Knee socks

I am so old that I even have some of the old fashion knee socks that have no elastic in them, you need a garter belt and the old garter tabs to hold them up.
  3. Yup, definately sounds like something the chartering organization did that the local council didn't like. At this late date, we will most likely never know what it was.
  4. 1966 Plymouth Satellite 9 miles per gallon in the city
  5. The boy scout Personal Fitness merit badge pamphlet has tests for measuring 3 different areas of fitness, flexibility, endurance, and strength.
  6. Yes, I trim mine if necessary.
  7. All these are great ideas. But the big problem I have encountered is if a patrol has to miss a meal because they failed to prepare it, Mommy and Daddy are screaming at me the next time they see me because their prescious little angel almost starved to death. Before everybody jumps down my throat, I've tried all the classic approaches, educating the parents etc......many troop operate like weblos 3 and it just doesn't work.
  8. I'm sure the idea has been thought of already at some time. There does seem to be a knot for just about everything these days.
  9. The way I see it, there are 2 ways of looking at this. Only the boys and adults who contributed to the unit achieving quality status should wear the patch. Or, it is an honor the troop has earned, and would make a good recruiting tool. (Join our troop and we will give you one of these to wear on your uniform) I guess it would be up to the individual unit to decide.
  10. That's great. Welcome to a new fellow scouter.
  11. 1. Very skilled 2. The leadership skills. 3. About 2 hours total.
  12. We announce them to our PLC, and the boys. It is their decision if they want to attend.

    Silver Loops

Welcome to Commisioner staff. Very rewarding.
  14. I learned as a young scout, that if I was going to get anything sewn on my uniform I was going to have to do it myself. So I had my grandmother show me how to stitch a patch on my uniform. Been doing it myself ever since. I even pulled out a needle and thread and stitched patrol patches on all my fellow patrol members shirts, the first weekend of wood badge. Foxes rule.
  15. I just completed my certification through the ARC to be an instructor for First Aid/ CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid.
  16. As the uniform police will be quick to point out, there is a section on red jackets covered in the insignia guide. My personal opinion is that is in there primarily for scouts and scouters that are going to be part of a jamboree contingency. So, if you feel like substituting, nobody but the uniform police are going to be offended.
  17. Not really sure if a "phobia" would qualify as a permanent mental disability or not. It's certainly not a physical disablility. Those are the only 2 things that allow for requirements to be altered.

    New BSA knot

Yes, very tiresome indeed. I am really sorry that BP had a bad experience with one individual who happened to wear alot of knots on his uniform, and now he generalizes about all individuals who he feels wear too many knots. Generalizations about physical characteristics are sad, and often inaccurate. I repeat, get a life.

    New BSA knot

I must admit, I really don't care how many knots anybody wears on their uniform. I don't feel there are many leaders out there who are in it just for the recognition. But those that are, they have still done the dedicated work to earn the knots they wear, and the scouting program (boys) has benfited from it. Some people on this forum need to get a life real bad.
  20. Merry Christmas to everybody, and a Happy New Year
  21. If you have the backing of the COR and the other troop leaders, and the thick skin to withstand the backlash from these people, tell them that their services are no longer wanted, and goodbye. End of story. If the kids want to stay in the troop, they can. My guess is that the dads will pull them, so that won't be an issue. Good luck to you.

    Knot sizes

My guess would be that they are outsourcing orders to cheap, overseas companies, and the QC is just not there.
  23. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and a good start to the holiday season.
