  1. Council mergers make for an interesting mix of personalities, history, and traditions.
  2. Yes, the pack I was involved with kept the same Den numbers from the time they were Tigers until they bridged.
  3. Sigh, unfortunately, most of my grief in scouting has also been caused by adults behaving badly.
  4. You can always request another Den Leader if your current one isn't doing his job.
  5. Sounds like he is knowledgable in the field. He meets all the requirements, go for it. Never turn down good help.
  6. With experiences like that, I can't blame you for not wanting a UC. Unfortunately, anyone who behaves like that has no clue what the duties of a UC are supposed to be.
  7. Any scout camp I have ever been to will not let you stay without a completed physical.
  8. Camp was really good. We have had a wet summer to date, so the bugs were much worse than usual this year.
  9. True, Venturing is a great program, it should be taking off much more than it has.
  10. True, I have experienced many intances of the computer programs leaving much to be desired, and heard about many more.
  11. Yes, I think all the hoops we have to jump through are turning some people off, and driving them away.
  12. I was hoping that the Summit would be cooler than AP Hill was.
  13. When I went in 1969, I remember a total uniforming bill of about 215.
  14. Hope he has a safe trip, and an enjoyable experience.
  15. Great, maybe some sanity is finally being presented.
  16. I have commented on BSA policy. If you don't like the policy, you don't have to spend the money to send your son to the Jamboree. There is no need for nasty comments.
  17. They probably won't send your son home. He will look out of place. You are right, the uniform is not required to be a member of the BSA, but it IS required to go to a Jamboree.
  18. Sorry if you folks took offense, but the Jamboree is what it is. They want all the boys and leaders in offical scout uniforms from head to toe. Wearing a pair of khaki shorts from Wal- Mart because they are close to the same color won't cut it. There are lots of people who go to summer camp, etc like that all the time, fine. But it won't be acceptable at a Jamboree. Don't shoot the messanger.
  19. Actually, this already exists. If 2 units have the same CO, they can share a committee.
  20. I don't agree with the restictions, but I do understand why they are necessary.
  21. Yes, I call it Cub Scout burnout. By the time the kids are ready to join Boy Scouts, the parents are so sick of the intense involvement, they bail and take their kid with them. They don't get the message that Boy Scouts is supposed to be a different program.
  22. Yes, Jamborees are very expensive. They are a gathering of scouts. Not a gathering of boys trying to dress up like scouts. The imitation scout uniforms won't cut it.
  23. It has always been BSA policy that you are always in complete BSA uniform, or BSA t-shirt when going to and from, and while at the Jamboree. Yes, it is an added expense.
