  1. I don’t understand Eagle either. That scout probably waited until he was 17 1/2. I started planning mine in April, but decided to get a last minute summer job, so I pushed it until September. No big deal.
  2. Why would you stop because you became SPL? I’ve been SPL for 2 years and yes at times it’s stressful and difficult, but it’s not that bad.
  3. I would reach out to local businesses. Ex: a tech company for coding or STEM
  4. There are plenty heavy coats that are thin and not bulky. I’m 15, and I personally hate bulky winter coats. I wear a Calvin Klein coat that has worked perfectly all winter for me.
  5. That’s actually interesting. I would say since a MBC has to send a adult application that they are a “registered leader” but I would contact the summer camp or your council.
  6. I actually thought about why there was no information either. It would be nice if they put more information and pushed membership. Maybe that’s why there’s not many members.
  7. We usually go out of state so we are the only ones that go from around us. Adding on from before, I suggest never go week 7 on because I guarantee you the staff will be tired out.
  8. You got a point there. I guess so BSA doesn’t get blamed if someone’s information is used without permission for bad.
  9. You can’t really know “oh this is going to be a fantastic summer camp!”. Until you actually spent a week there. If we like the camp, we go back for 2-3 years and move on
  10. Because atleast in my district it has addresses and phone numbers on it. I mean my troop doesn’t follow that either, but that’s why.
  11. Your boyfriend and son wouldn’t be allowed to share a tent or anything either since he is not a legal family member. It’s really up to the cibmaster and committee since he really has no right to be there since it’s not his son. Not saying it’s right, but saying how I interpret the rules.
  12. He would probably would not be able to be a registered leader due to that, since BSA conducts background checks. But that’s just how I would think of it. Don’t think the cubmaster is out to get you when he is protecting the kids AND following the rules.
  13. I don’t see the need to waterproof it. Just buy a good quality bag so it’ll last a while. Mine costed around $100, but I’ve been using it for over 5 years and it’s still in perfect condition and doesn’t get wet from humidity or condensation.
  14. The SPL should be doing everything you just said you wanted to do. Then the SPL brings the patrols ideas to the committee & SM to be approved and booked.
  15. My Emergency medical responder course was more entertaining and fun than the first aid merit badge class I took.
  16. In all honesty, votes in any youth group is purely popularity.
  17. I know someone that is life and lost his BSHB last year. This would’ve helped him a lot.
  18. I was a counselor at a cub scout day camp... I’ve had 16 scouts and one picnic table... not fun.
  19. I remember taking rifle shooting a few summers ago but only got a partial. I did fantastic on all the shooting, and cleaning the rifle. The only problem is, we go out of state and I don’t know the PA gun laws and I didn’t know I had to know every single one in my brain at all times. Everything was looking good, small class, until the second to last day he told us we have a 5 page ish written test the next day. Guess what, I failed it since I didn’t know every single requirement. I don’t see where in the requirments you have to take a written test. Isn’t that adding requirements?
  20. Easily EPrep. The last day or so at summer camp we did a fake “mass causality” scenario in the woods and we actually had to do first aid and carry them out on a backboard. I have to say, the other scouts in my class were fantastic actors.
  21. He means from now on that at MB colleges, events, fairs, he may not offer eagle required badges.
