  1. Make him be registered as a leader, then when he gets denied as a leader due to criminal charges, say he can’t participate in activities due to that.
  2. I’m sorry but, I hate all the name changes they are doing. “Scouts BSA” come on now... do you know how odd that would look on a uniform? It sounds like one of the knockoffs of the actual BSA.
  3. I was offered another camp job for 2 weeks that pays above minimum wage, so I might consider working few weeks at the day camp (if they allow it) and the two weeks at another camp, then will have a part time job throughout the summer.
  4. I can work at a pediatric office when I turn 17. It’s partnered with my school. No jobs for 15 or 16.
  5. As some may know, I worked at a Cub Scout day camp last year and got offered the same position for this year. I only got a $25 raise and still make under $800. It would be for 7 weeks, 8-5 almost every day. I turn 16 in June, and I can find a actual part time job in the summer. Im so lost on what I should do, and if it is worth it working at the day camp. My parents say don’t, and I’ve had teachers say don’t, but need more opinions.
  6. I also forgot to ask, was the Pack committee involved or only the district? I might’ve missed it when I was reading, sorry if I did.
  7. I’m confused, so is this article positive or negative? It starts out positive and then led to this.
  8. From the more information you’ve given, contact your SE. If he/she cares about their job they’ll do something about it at a council level, not a district.
  9. I would quit the pack with issues and stick with the special needs pack. I would simply contact or email National. If it is a major problem, they have a 24/7 hotline if your child is at risk. Here’s info: “As part of the BSA's "Scouts First" approach to the protection and safety of youth, the BSA has established "844- Scout1st ,”, (844-726-8871), a dedicated 24-hour helpline to receive reports of known or suspected abuse or behavior that might put a youth at risk. (The call may be answered by a person who gathers initial information and escalates the report for further handling based upon
  10. Probably cheaper for the government to just give the money.
  11. This is coming from my own personal experience, so it should be somewhat helpful. SPL elections came around, only 3 scouts were really “ qualified “ to run for SPL. It ended up being myself and another scout. The scout acts the same way as you described the scout that lost to your son. I won the election and then I was told by a leader to make him my ASPL. I was like “Oh I’ll help him! No problem”. Turns out it didn’t work out as I hoped and I didn’t even want another leadership position after that. I beg of you to not let your son make the same mistake that I had made, since I bet he wi
  12. I would quit your troop within a week if I had to sit through that. I would rather be taught and have actually someone making eye contact with me instead of everyone falling asleep, just like in school.
  13. Welcome to Boy Scouts! I am a youth myself and 15. I have the same exact situation as your son and I've been dealing with it for the past 4 years about. Others on the forum know my situation and I have ranted many times. I take it as that the CM is jealous that your son is more successful in Scouting as of right now, and I only know a few patrol leaders that actually do what they are suppose to. I commend your son for making the duty roster for the weekend and not the SPL. Anyway, I would just let it flow. To this day, I still do everything wrong according to that one parent (a committee
  14. Update: The new version of the camelbak I bought will not fit on your belt correctly, guess I’m going with a Nalgene.
  15. The online scout shop divides it between earned and something else.
  16. I think it happens to every scout... I always keep mine with a cover on and it still fell apart.
  17. I’m not aware if some of you know this so I’ll put it out there. Office supply stores such as Staples will bind (with plastic spiral) your scoutbook for cheap, and it’ll hold really well. I had mine done a few years ago and stays great.
  18. By handbook logs I mean service, hiking, and campimg log. We basically spent the whole meeting this week on filling it in for the whole scouts. I know it’ll benefit them in the long run when they start the camping merit badge. I never filled it in (there was a different SM when I joined), and ended up never doing it. Does your Troop encourage scouts to fill it in?
  19. Yeah and who has time for that and when you can buy a $10-$15 water bottle and stay safe?
  20. This is the one thing that I am so glad we never had to deal with. They drink and drink, and all we say at the beginning of a hot week(end) is to stay hydrated. I can not recall the last time someone complained about heat exhaustion, dehydration, etc.
