Good question. A 16 year old at the Cub Scout day camp I worked for last year had launched many rockets with the cub scouts. I wonder if it was allowed.
-
I agree. The year after I crossed over, all the good committee members, den leaders, etc. had moved on since their child went to Boy Scouts. I was a den chief around two years later and now they do not visit any troops, they go straight into the packs troop. It’s a shame, we only have around 12 scouts and 3-4 are about to get Eagle which means there is only around 2-3 years left of 25% of the Troop.

I somewhat disagree with your statement. My den had went “troop shopping” to around 4 troops (I was sick so I missed all of the meetings). Our pack is a feeder to a troop. Not a single person in my den went to that troop because no one liked it. We had around 10 people in the den and they all joined another troop in a nearby town. I decided to just go with the flow and went with the rest of my friends. To this day, the pack feeder troop is still not so great and adult ran. I’m glad I followed the flow. I probably wouldn’t in scouting still if I went to that Troop.

Especially the ride home to say what he learned and did.

If you’re considering D, do not make a final decision until you actually drive there, go camping with them, and your son is involved in an actual meeting.

I’ll be the first to say it. You got some junky options. Just a FYI before I start voicing my opinion, a small troop does not mean they do less. My troop has 11-12 scouts (all active!) and I’m the SPL. We meet weekly, go camping at least 6-8 times a year not including summer camp. Anywho... Troop A- I feel like it will not be along for much longer, especially if many of their 6 scouts are close to Eagle or high up there. I bet you they will lose more members quick. I would cross that off the list completely. Troop B- Ehhh... they should be meeting weekly or atleast sometime... I have a feeling it’s adult led because we all know no youth scouts will meet up in person to discuss plans, PLC, etc. BUT.. the only pro is that they go camping which might be where they shine. I would consider them an option. Troop C - Seems ok. I mean they should be meeting weekly & doing a whole bunch of other activities (fundraisers, etc). But they do Camp, which is a good thing. Also a side note, just because they go to summer camp every other year, it does not mean your scout can not go alone. Many camps have a “lone scout” program. I would say this Troop is ok. It’s way better than Troop B because Troop C atleast meets once a month. Troop D- 30 miles away? Cross it out. Enough said. Even though this would be the most ideal troop, it’s not worth the commute in my opinion. What about weekend activities? What if they are meeting at a different place for a certain activity and it’s even farther away for you? I would personally pick Troop C if I had to pick. Don’t forget also that it’s not all camping or meeting... what about fundraiser and volunteering?

I took the old one (not even sure if the new one is out yet) last year. It was really detailed and if I remember correctly, it took just as long as the old YPT.

Still can’t compare to a drug felony.

Isn’t it kind of common sense? I mean for camp staff I understand, and I’ve taken it. If theres a tornado warning, run, if there is a flood warning, run, if there is a thunder storm, get shelter. (Exaggerated)

You described him as a taller version of me, minus the beard.

Nono, I’m only 15 ... and still growing.

It’s a thing in the US but not popular to my knowledge.

How do you end your Troop meetings?

Wow everyone! It’s so interesting how every Troop does it their own way. -

We say the same thing and have been for 6 years. -
I’m 6’ 3’’ and an adult large is plenty long for me.

Woah woah woah! Is this a corporate thing or is it whatever the store manager wants to do? I would jump right on this opportunity!

The CM has the power to prevent someon from attending a activity if there is a reason. It may not be a reason you agree with, but it is a reason that the CM and most likely the committee agrees as well. The problem with you currently is that, I’m sorry to say, but as you said above, you’re taking this a little too personal. I’m sure this has happened in another pack/Troop/crew as well. FYI: Also, you can’t really compare a speeding ticket to a felony.

I’m curious how other troops have their traditions. In my troop we have a regular closing then a scoutmaster and SPL minute then “down the line”, where a scout can say anything Scout appropriate. We also have one scout day a saying that’s been passed down for about 6 years. (The scout who came up with it just made Eagle and passed it down to a new scout).

She’s just being courteous.

I forget as it was 5 years ago but I believe my pack had parents talk with the CM or whoever while we did activities. We always had fun pack nights.

Our Council's New Gender Inclusive Branding
ItsBrian replied to oldbuzzard's topic in Issues & Politics
Agreed. Even though people don’t always say “council” at the end of it doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong there. When I googled it, it did come up under “Patriots Path” but the trail was first. -
Only if the OP was still active.

That's not right.

New YPT Launch
ItsBrian replied to walk in the woods's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
I agree. I’m a youth and I took it about a month ago because I knew I wasn’t going to have time if I needed the updated one for my summer job. It was really boring at times, especially when it was mostly the same professionals over and over again. I wish they included more real situations (ex: parents of victims, or a re-enactment of a actual case) and situations that would actually happen.
