  1. The SM attends, he is on roundtable staff for the cub scouts. I also attend, I am the CC, I am also the roundtable commissioner for the boy scout side.

    Flag Fuss

The ranger was totally out of line. If the flag offneded him, a polite converstion with the SM expressing his views would have been the correct course of action to take. He certainly had no authority to make the troop remove the flag. This falls under the concept of "diversity" that is the in thing these days. Seems like I've heard that term associated with Wood Badge? If a scout wants to express himself by displaying a historical flag in his own campsite, he should be allowed to according to "diversity", since he is not breaking any laws that I am aware of.
  3. Maybe do your "housekeeping" as patrols. Have the SPL instruct the PL as to what needs to be covered, and then let the PL's conduct the business with their patrols. Also, follow the guidelines set forth in the Troop Program Features. Split the meeting into app 20 minute segments, sandwich fun-physical acivities amoung the sit down housekeeping ones.
  4. Jeffrey H is right.
  5. The packs I've been involved with have traditionally held their den meetings in the den leaders home. We would also do field trips to other places like forest preserves, fire stations, libraries, etc..
  6. You and the CC should have an informal discussion with the pareent in question. This does not warrent a full blown committe interegation. Suggest he take youth protection training. If people don't stop trying to make mountains out of molehills, we won't have a scouting program anymore because nobody will want to volunteer their time to lead it.
  7. I too would have to see the actual write up before commenting fully, but my guess would be the only leadership came somehow with the gathering of the materials .
  8. Interesting points. I guess we really have to have the program available to all boys. You are right in pointing out that there is a certain percentage of boys who will just not get into scouting for whatever reason. You can lead the horse to water, but you can't make them drink. All we can do is provide the best possible program, and realize that it won't be for everybody.
  9. Thanks for the update, please keep us posted on any further developments.
  10. Thanks for sharing, glad you had a good trip.
  11. Congratulations, I used to be a Fox..... C-11-96
  12. Often, a heartfelt thankyou does wonders.
  13. Also in agreement. We've just accepted the boy's word. I also don't really see the point in this requirement.
  14. Hello, if my council tried that strong arm tactic as far as requiring 100% adult leader training for rechartering, they would have close to 0 units next year, and then they would be out of a job!! All I can suggest is to have a meeting with all the parents of the youth in your ship, and tell them what you need, be specific. Let them know that if they want a ship for their child to attend, this is going to have to happen, bottom line. Good luck to you.
  15. August is really early to be bridging into boy scouts. Most packs have their bridging ceremony in February or March.
  16. I would be honored to pray for you and your family. So very sorry to hear of your misfortune, God bless you and your family.
  17. Am I missing something? Where is the line on the blue card to sign for a preliminary meeting? I know the policy calls for one, but if a scout has done the requirements before meeting with me, I go ahead and review what he has done.
  18. Welcome to the forum, as has already been stated, you are to be commended for being self motivated. As a merit badge counselor, I would love to see a scout as prepared as you are. By all means, finish up as much as you can and contact a counselor when they are available.
  19. Often, boys are happiest with other boys their own age. This does not mean that a bunch of young first year scouts are thrown together intoa patrol with no guidance. That is what troop guides and troop instructors are for. These are positions of responsibility for older boys, that allow them to work with first year scouts. Hopefully your Scoutmaster knows this and has a syatem like this in operation.
  20. My council is currently planning a fall camporee. A special committee has been formed to plan and run the camporee.
  21. The scoutmaster can refuse to sign the Eagle app. The Committee Chair can also refuse. The Board of Review can still be held, but they would have to take into account the refusal of the troop to sign off on the application.
  22. I agree with LisaBob, you have good reason to be concerned. This ASM needs to be talked to.
  23. I agree, there are so many people out there that are ready to pounce if you don't get the information correct word for word form some source of information. Then they quote the reference. Lighten up people.
