  1. My unit has done what eagle90 suggested. Find out from the Weblos Den Leader what requirements the Weblos need to cover, and have the boy scouts plan a program to cover them.
  2. Interesting post, thanks for sharing.
  3. Have any of these scouts planned high adventure trips before? They may be overwelmed. Try cutting it up into little pieces for them and give them guidance. For example, give them some suggestions on how to find ideas for things to do in South Dakota, or have an internet party, where they can get together and look up ideas with your guidance, etc..
  4. Certainly, any parent that wants to attend a comittee meeting is welcome. If they chose to attend regularly, give them something to do.

    Neckties

I had one when I became an adult leader back in the mid 70's
  6. The ideal situation would be to have a meeting with him and all the parents of the den.. Let him kbow the boys aren't having a good time, after all that's what its all about. Have one of the other parents step forward and volunteer to take over.
  7. That would fall under the area of Scoutmaster's discretion. My unit has not allowed camp service projects to count because we are supposed to be helping the community, not the BSA.
  8. I know, pretty sad when you have to try to predict every possible scenario of everything you do. No matter what you do, somebody can complain about it. I'm at a loss of what to do. I do know that I have curtailed my interaction with the youth for my own protection.
  9. If the DAC did indeed give his approval via e-mails, verify it as much as possible, and file an appeal to the council. Good luck.
  10. They are not regularly scheduled troop meetings, by all means count them.
  11. Having an honest discussion with these young men can help them mature and gain insight into their character. Isn't that what scouting is all about?
  12. Our district appoints a chairman, who , along with a committee of volunteers, plan the camporee.
  13. Sounds like you have a fine boy run troop. A junior leader made a well thought out decision. This mother needs to understand the scouting program and what "boy led" really means. Unfortunately you can't satisfy all the people all the time.
  14. My District does it the first and second Saturdays in December.
  15. Sorry Merlyn, You can't satisfy all the people, all the time. Trying to deny public access to any group that doesn't do that is a waste of time.
  16. From what I can gather it sounds like these people are trying different ways to get the job done. For example, if they don't want to pay postage to distribute info, fine, maybe she would rather use an internet e-mail list. As it has been said, if they're not trying to change BSA policy, don't make it your battle to fight.
  17. I like the idea of the crossing over ceremony. Present them with a adult leader application, and maybe the appropriate badge of office, ASM, CM, etc..
  18. Why would a scout not want to come to a Board of Review in uniform. To me properly dressed would be the scout wearing as complete a uniform as possible for him (do your best). Seems I've heard that phrase somewhere before.
  19. If your CO no longer wants the responsibility, and is willing to step aside and let another organization take over the partnership with the Council, yes, it would be easy. You need to meet with the CO head, and representative, and discuss your concerns. Maybe letting you find another Co is the way they want to go, you'll never know unless you try.
  20. Sounds like you have the potential for a great Pack/Troop relationship. This will increase the odds that your Weblos will want to continue on in scouting. Good luck, and consider yourself fortunate.
  21. Excellent article, thanks for sharing.
  22. In the past I have ad-libbed it a little. Made some comments about there not being an end to the Eagle trail, continuing development of the scout, etc..
  23. Amazing how some things never change.
  24. In the "old days" there were 2 wood badge courses. One for boy scout leaders and one for cub scout leaders. The new course combines the 2 and is generic for all scout leaders (cub scout, boy scout, venturing etc..) I'm sure there are lots of people out there with more experience than I who can be more specific.
