  1. We try to break even on our Camporees.
  2. I agree with Eamonn, many times the Scoutmaster has insight into the maturity level etc of a possible OA candidate. Scoutmaster approval is in the requirements for that very reason.
  3. You can wear any number of merit badges on the sash.
  4. The official word is no. Im like beavah, I prefer the silver tabs on the green venturing shirt.

He would be making a spoof on the Uniform Police. Scouters who jump all over anybody they see wearing a uniform incorrectly.
  6. In a nutshell, the advancement policy and procedure manual states that the Scoutmaster is responsible for deciding who will sign off on rank advancements.
  7. I've seen lots of boys who are not interested in advancing until they develop some mental maturity, at about 13-14 years of age. Some pick it up, others don't, but advancement is not the end all. It has been stated many times in this forum that advancement is only one of the methods of scouting. Just because a boy isn't advancing, doesn't mean that the total program is a waste for him.
  8. Glad you were able to secure another meeting place. I've had to do that myself a few times, not much fun.
  9. Interesting theory, I've also read an article on how as a general rule, men are better at a sense of direction than women. But women tend to be more observant. People have been getting government money for years to do studies on things like this.
  10. Good points. Actually, the PL should appoint positions within his patrol to make sure that all the worl gets done. Patrol Scribe, Quartermaster, etc... not to mention making effective use of his APL.
  11. Don't get preoccupied with your son advancing. Let him enjoy scouting the way he wants to.
  12. My troop is chartered by a church. The COR is a church member who had been a Scoutmaster of the troop several years previously.
  13. Minimum age for a merit badge counselor is 18.
  14. Sounds like it is time to sit down with him one on one, with another leader present of course for youth protection, and let him know that if he is not going to fulfill the responsibilities of his position, there will have to be another election to have somebody else take the position.
  15. I believe the scoutmaster determines if there are scouts eligible for OA, if there are, then OA elections can take place. It is not the committee's call.
  16. Everybody knows there are 2 types of WoodBadge critters, those who are Foxes, and those who want to be. We wore our patrol medalions when we were participants in the course, but took them off afterwards. Foxes rule, C-11-96
  17. Sounds like a potentially good boy, who has some growing up to do. From the history you gave, he has had some minor problems, seems to respond to adult counceling, and maybe has a few backsliding problems on occasion. I think the lastest is the result of his frustration over not winning the election. I would council the young man again about his inappropriate behavior. Life is a continuous learning process, and this young man is still learning. Keep helping him along.
  18. I have had more luck with mixed patrols, NSP can work, but you need really good troop guides and ASM scoutmasters providing guidance.
  19. How do the boys in your den feel? Some dens have boys that are really into camping, you could shoot for a camping trip every month or 2, other dens are not so outdoor oriented, and would have to be introduced to camping much more gradually.
  20. By all means, have a special meeting with the youth concerned, and have them develop their own plan.
  21. Yes, it really is a big deal, congratulations to your son.
  22. Glad to hear everything worked out for you.
