  1. "It happens that 2 of my fellow Troop Committee members are police officers, and although I have seen them at countless meetings and several weekend camping trips, and each has been to summer camp at least once with my son, to my knowledge they have never had their weapon with them at any Scouting function. While I would understand if they felt the need to be armed at all times (and I believe they are permitted to be), I am happy that they apparently do not, at Scouting events." That may have something to do with the fact that I believe they most likely carry concealed when not on duty. Some even carry concealed as a backup.
  2. FOG, could you explain what you mean? If it means that they wouldnt be a big "NOISE" kind of thing when they are done, thats only if they dont tear the place apart while they are doing it. We'll just have to wait and see.
  3. How about foil packs? With either chicken or hamburger? If you want more info, let me know and I can do so.
  4. My mom made a red vest for me when I was in Cub Scouts. It is full. Now, I am just collecting them and trying to decide if I want her to sew them onto a blanket or something. On a side note, my mom made a blanket for the pack that every boy who was in at the point and leader would have a like a patch or something with their name on them. When they left the pack, their rank at which they left at was put onto their patch. It is displayed at things like Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold, etc
  5. They get their choice between Iraq and Iran. Right now, I think I'd choose Iraq.
  6. I dont know what to tell you, but did you see what Scouter has to offer? I have not done so myself, right now I am not running a Scout site. Starting one soon though. I want to say that MSN has one and you can do a lot with their stuff I think.
  7. So you are saying now that if a patrol was to decide that they wanted to use, say, the 101st patch as their patrol and call themselves the Screaming Eagles or whatever, that they would be out of uniform b/c it is a military item? What about if they did what someone else suggested and use the pin to place it onto the blank patrol emblem??? Suit yourself.
  8. Just b/c we may not have been mistaken for a Marine, doesnt mean that our uniform isnt similar to theirs. It is extremely similar, in fact I wish it wasnt so similar. Anyway, that kind of sounds like a law that is there, but isnt enforced. One thing that I know would be similar is the "no camo or military equipment in BSA".
  9. "Not be be a wet blanket or anything, but . . . From the Insignia Guide: "Imitation of United States Army, Navy, or Marine Corps uniforms is prohibited, ..." " Yeah, I wouldnt want to be one either;) Anyway, they are wanting to use the patch, not the full uniform. And, just saw this,... no sctleader, it's not. You can wear them, but you cannot try to represent one. There's a difference. Here's what I mean: Let's say, I wanna look cool. I'm gonna go with the Ranger tab, the Special Forces tab, all that good stuff. If I SAY I'm Ranger Qualed, or Special Forces Qualed, and keep telling people that, then I'm violating Federal Law. Thats impersination. (sp) (This message has been edited by hops_scout)
  10. I'd like that:) Also, I wouldnt mind seeing some of their infantry live either;)
  11. Talk to OGE I believe. I think she is/was in the same Crew as his son. Also, remember that I believe she is a regional rep for Venturing too I think. Like I said, talk to OGE:)
  12. I like the idea actually. I'd want to be the Screaming Eagles with the 101st patch:) I think those are pretty big though so it wouldnt work too well. I've thought about getting a POW/MIA patch and put it on my BDUs that I wear when camping. I have a "Scout" scroll already that I put onto a hat similar to the way the Rangers wear them. Probaly shouldnt do it, but it works both ways; I'm a Scout, but not a Scout sniper which I believe is what the patch is actually for.
  13. I'm quoting this from http://www.mninter.net/~blkeagle/camo.htm "Just to let the guy know, Mike: In 1996, two Scouters wearing camoed pants and a Scouts shirt were REFUSED ENTRY into a Council Camporee by the Scout Executive of that Council. The Scout Executive informed them of the BSA's uniforming policy and told them that unless they choose to be in compliance with that policy, they would not be allowed entry into the Camporee. One adult complied; the other adult re-asserted his personal right to wear whatever the hell he wanted to wear. The Scout Executive simply said "fine", both Scouters went into the camp facility. An hour later, the Scout Executive, accompanied by the local County sheriff, served the Scouter still wearing the camo gear with a "letter of membership denial", and advised him that since he is no longer a registered member of the BSA, that his presence on the campground is no longer welcomed. He was given 15 minutes to pack out his gear, and he and his son (because the man said "If I go, my son goes too...") was escorted off the camp property by the law enforcement people." I know nothing about this as to the truth of it or not. We wont go there; have done similar things in recent threads regarding this site. Please do not start that here.
  14. Not 100% sure, but I believe that the SE can remove at any time for any reason. Like I said, not sure so someone with the know, please step up
  15. OGE, you'd find more stuff against YP than you'd want to even know:) Personally, I believe this site is the best, but it isnt all Scouts. This is my site. http://bh2.htc.net/~hopper Our troop site has fallen apart. I plan to revise it sometime. We'll see. Oh and personally, I believe you aint going to find a "best troop site"(This message has been edited by hops_scout)
  16. I wish our garden was like that! We have LOTS of rock on our fields and in our gardens!
  17. Take the steel wool and a 9 volt battery. Touch the point of contacts to the steel wool and it will spark and BLOW on it!! I forgot to mention that this tip came from Purcelce at Fall Camporee last year:) (This message has been edited by hops_scout)
  18. Our varsity football team ALWAYS does a quick prayer before going out onto the field right before the game. They do it in the locker room or off to the side somewhere. Our coach started that 4 years ago when he came here.
  19. Eamonn, in the Boys' Life and Scouting(I think) they have an ad for berets. It says something like "Military Berets" or similar. They come in a variety of colors.
  20. I'd consider it a little bit of both. My neighbors have similar things and are always zooming by on them. They dart across the road whenever they want with their parents yelling at drivers for going over the speed limit by half a mile an hour saying that it would be their fault, etc They should be banned from ALL streets.
  21. "Unless you are with a Venture Crew, you can't wear them with the current uniform anyway." I agree with the statement, but if they are building a replica uniform from that time period they can wear them. Also, I thought the troop had the right to create their own headwear.. Maybe I misunderstood that discussion. ....
  22. This thread will be locked very shortly. Please give only the truth and not what could be believed to be wrong or a rumor. Also, It is not a good idea to post information that could get somebody into trouble like that. "If you dont want it showing up on CNN or Fox News, etc DONT post it here" (This message has been edited by a staff member.)
  23. Let's see.... I am Hoopla in the troop, Mighty Mike in COPE, We have: Schaf---slightly different than his last name Sticks---always sitting ontop of sticks Zero---always digging holes for no reason Weasal---first name is Wesley Coltron---real name is Colton Thats all I can think of right now, but most of the people in the troop have a nickname of some sort.
  24. My favorite knot to ty is the figure eight on a bight:)
