If you have a problem with a person, you may contact them personally. We do have private messenging for a reason. Yes, most enjoyed Bob and learned from him. There were a few that didnt. Does it really need to be spelled out on the board either way? PS.. time to get back to Scouts- the purpose of the site.(This message has been edited by hops_scout)

Internet Rechartering -- anyone done this yet? Any tips?
hops_scout replied to Laurie's topic in Open Discussion - Program
We used to always do ours in mid-January/ early February. Starting this year it is getting moved to March "when the rest of council does theirs" -
I'm nit-picky. I know:) I wish it would have stayed there too. Thats like a 4 hour drive for me instead of 10+ to Texas;)

Santa Claus Explained (turns out he was a boy scout)
hops_scout replied to eisely's topic in Open Discussion - Program
We still get gifts. Those are the best ones:) Last year a climbing helmet, the year before a tent. Hoping for a climbing harness or something camping-wise again this year. -
All I want for Christmas is............

A trip to the 2005 National Jamboree. Oh please Santa, I've been soooo good this year... -
GreenEagle, it moved in 1999 or 2000. Our troop went down to Camp Manchester and made a trip to the museum. I have not been there though. That was the last summer it was in KY. Something around those dates above.

Alright, so we've had threads before about what you do for a living. So, what would you do if you could work in any job you wanted to? I'll start... First, I'd be an Army RANGER because everyone knows how cool they are;) Ridin' around in helos, shootin' rifles, etc Also, I'd like to be a web developer, but I'd have to do more than just that. I like to be active so sitting in an office wouldnt be much fun to me. Third, I want to play professional baseball. Who wouldnt? Big bucks, playing "God's Game", travelling, etc Finally, I would like to be a police officer or sheriff deputy in a small town/county like I live in.

I'm gonna go ahead and lock this thread. If you want one, please email him or see the other thread.

Colleges Can Bar Military Recruiters - BSA mentioned
hops_scout replied to purcelce's topic in Issues & Politics
Of course, some of these schools are FEDERALLY funded in some way or another. If they are going to disallow recruiters, should the government disallow funding to them? -
I've heard they'll still be taking people up until the week of Jambo almost.

wagionvigil, Welcome to the board over here. I like the one at meritbadge.net, but I'd say this one is much bigger. Thanks for the info. You've been giving me quite a bit lately on a couple different boards;) PS-- I go by hops just about everywhere;)

Thanks John, I'll look into it. I've emailed back and forth a couple times with a lady from the ARC in St. Louis, but she has since stopped emailling me information when I asked her for some. I guess I should email them again. I was trying to possibly have the troop host one. The ARC doesnt offer one b/c it doesnt get much interest.

Thanks. Yeah, our troop needs to go through the unit kit, too. I'll betcha almost all of it is outdated by a long time.

Nice. Let's see how many doctors we can get without anybody saying anything:) LOL My old denleader ( other than my mom) was a nurse or something similar and her husband is actually our family doctor and team doctor for football. I think our DE was saying that for at least one of the camps that our council/ district (something, not sure) hosts each year, they just ask for volunteers that are EMTs, nurses, doctors, etc PS-- Number 1000!(This message has been edited by hops_scout)

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but... I'm working to put together a fanny pack as a first aid kit for me to carry at day camps and such. I have pretty limited formal training, ex.-First Aid Merit Badge. Currently, I've got latex and nitrile gloves, some .25 inch medical tape, a roll of like .75 inch tape, a medical mask (like what a dentist wears), several gauze pads of different sizes, an ACE wrap, and a "Shark". A "shark" is used mainly by athletic trainers, and coaches to cut off tape and the prewrap stuff from athletes' ankles and wrists, etc. I'm considering getting some athletic tape and wrap, and a pair of EMT shears. Also, a pair of goggles. What else should I get? I've got some room in my pack still to put stuff in.

If you were not such a good Boy Scout ?
hops_scout replied to Eamonn's topic in Open Discussion - Program
While being a Boy Scout in this discussion, I'd have to say that I probably would just be a lazy, old bum doing absolutely nothing just like the rest of my school. Scouting has taught me to get into basically everything that I've gotten in into since I've gotten into Scouts. Baseball is the only exception and I wouldnt give it up for a million bucks. -
Our troop charges for: Registration Boys' Life (I guess not sure) 16.00 dues Campouts are paid per event We fundraise by selling popcorn and have a BBQ in May each year. We've got about 35 Scouts on the roster Red, you may want to check out meritbadge.net/phpbb and check in troop issues. There's a long one in there already.

Hey, I just wanted to make it public how much I like Camelbak. I bought a military-version Thermobak 3L in Olive Drab almost 2 years ago. It's been leaking for some reason and I dont like it! Made me a little mad. So, I emailed the company and the guy who replied seemed to think he knew exactly what was wrong. And knew how to fix it. Sent me a new cap b/c he thought the o-ring had been worn out. I got it in the mail the other day. I have yet to put it onto the pack, but hopefully it works. I just wanted to thank Mr. Steele from Camelbak on here to let you all know how hard they work. www.camelbak.com (This message has been edited by a staff member.)

Good idea OGE. Great thinking

Merlyn, I believe I've read somewhere that you cannot discrminate when it comes to hiring for sex, age, physical traits, or basically anything! The academies are able to do so. Wouldnt that make them "hiring" illegally considering an appointment to West Point and the Naval Academy, etc are technically jobs. The cadets and Midshipmen get paid after all.

Have you read BSA information regarding this?? How about searching? Try that too

I wore my uniform to school the other day. (except the pants b/c I dont own a pair at the current time; I did wear OD so it was similar at least) I did have a few people ask me why I wore it. It was Veterans' Day. 2 other people also wore theirs that day. I had one person ask me if I was in the service as well! I couldnt believe it.

So what do you want for Christmas this year? It can be anything, reality or not. Items or certain goals, etc I'll post mine once I'm done compiling it. Two separate lists, Scouting/Camping and other.
