  1. I've kind of been "laying low" on this one. I'll add my thoughts shortly. I think about it everyday. It hurts when I do think about that day and I'm near tears now as I type this. 3 thousand some people were killed in a matter of hours and days. The men and women of the FDNY and other agencies in the area suffered dearly. 343 workers killed from the FDNY alone! That would be nearly my whole neighborhood! Last night, I went camping at a WOW campout. If you dont know what that is, it stands for Weblos Outdoor Weekend. At the campfire last night, we retired several Old Glories. Before we started retiring Them, we took a moment to reflect on what had happened 3 years earlier. I stood there in the front holding one "Ragged Old Flag" and about came to tears there as well. This subject touches me deeply. I dont know exactly why. I guess that is just how He wanted me to be. I was just in 7th grade when it happened, but I have felt this way eversince. I have made it my one of my goals to become an elite Ranger and fight these $*$*$*(% that did this. I have also wanted to become an EMT, firefighter, law enforcement officer, etc. My room is decorated with a poster from NYC, a poster with the flag on it that says "Support our Troops", and a lot of other stuff. I have written and found many things relating to this topic. If you would like to see any of it, let me know and I'd be happy to pass it along.
  2. Of which area of IL are you from? Just wondering b/c I'm in the Southwestern part of the state in Waterloo, IL. Okaw Valley
  3. I would have liked to go. If I would have heard about it this year before now, I may have been going. And it was even on a weekend that I was pretty much free! Rats.
  4. Keep up the good work. I hope you find him soon.
  5. I'm going to start doing some talking and we'll see what happens. Problem is I dont quite know where to start, but we'll see what happens;)
  6. Yeah UNC, all we've got around here is volunteer fire departments. Our EMS agencey is also mainly volunteer. I believe there are 6 full time, 5 part time, and then like 25 volunteers.
  7. AK-Eagle and I were talking about this last night on MSN. We were discussing parts of the Lost Scout incident, etc and I got to saying that I was looking into joining a SAR team when I turn 16. Problem was that the team is located over an hour away and I wouldnt want to have to go that far all the time. Anyway, he suggested that I should start a SAR Crew. I liked the idea, though I doubt it would work too well here because I dont see there being a lot of participation that would be had. I thought I would put it out here anyway and see what you guys think. One question, just to clarify... A SO of PD, EMS etc could be a chartering org, correct? Also, I've thought about talking with the Police Chief who is fairly new and is working on a lot of great stuff here about a LE Explorer group. Let me know what you think. thanks:)
  8. If you guys really think that some searcher who were to type into Google: Lost Scout; and not get these threads you are wrong. I just did a few minutes ago. First two on the second page.
  9. If you would read my explanation at the END of the thread, you will notice that I gave a reason. If you dont like it, thats the way it goes. Also, yes, I've been in school all day. Then I had football practice and then I had to keep the scoreboard at a game.. I just got my homework done 15 minutes ago.
  10. This thread is locked. Second-guessing is not needed. If you want to offer suggestions, training, etc... please do so in another thread. Just stay on the topic as much as possible.
  11. Moved to Issues and Politics because it fits there more than Open Discussion. Please keep Non-Scouting stuff out of the Open Discussion.
  12. I wish I could help ya, but I know very little about the Scouter.com resources. Any other questions, dont be afraid to ask though.
  13. I'd say just a question and answer session. You dont really know what they want to hear:)
  14. LOL.. I get my permit in a couple of weeks. I'll have mine for about 4 months I think.
  15. You know, matter of fact, I would... but thats right in the middle of baseball season:( And, I dont know what our schedule is like for baseball or school yet:( Otherwise, sounds great:)
  16. I wouldn allow any energy drinks. The only thing that I would allow even remotely similar would be Gatorade or Powerade or that kind of thing. Thats all I drink anymore. In fact, I've got one right here at the computer with me:)
  17. I've never been sailing. Some of our troop went sailing on Carlyle Lake while at summer camp this year. They accidently left our SM's keys in the boat!
  18. Trail Pounder, I'll tell ya, that really looks like a lot of fun!! I wanted to go there this year, but had conflicts:( Thats one of the downsides to it, it's only offered one week a year.
  19. sctlder, had I been in your troop, your stats would now be wrong. I am not a swimmer. I have no DESIRE to swim therefore I dont. Does that mean I should never make Eagle b/c I dont WANT to get in the water and I dont WANT to earn Lifesaving??!!! NO!! That is why they are options along with hiking, cycling, and Emergency Preparedness. I dont want to be a lifeguard, but I do want to be an EMT. Lifesaving really isnt going to help me in that way, now is it? Emergency Preparedness will to some degree.
  20. Hey, great to see ya there Trail Pounder! School starts in two weeks???!!! Must be nice. We start Tuesday. I have a friend who is up in Chitown sailing right now in some big competition or whatever.
  21. Oh no, that means its really going to be HUMID here!!!!!!!!!!!AHHHHHHH!!! Sure hope I'm done with football before that happens;)
  22. I wish I knew more on the subject. OGE, I know what you are saying, and am in somewhat of agreement. I just read this on a fire/EMS forum awhile back.
  23. I dont know OGE why it is just now coming up, whatever, I just know that it is. Here's one. If you'll look around that site, you may find more. http://cms.firehouse.com/forums2/showthread.php?s=7ddfa746edf5fc8575b85518d8fbc9c4&threadid=15810&highlight=electric+cars I'll try finding what I orginally saw though. It was something about cutting cables and you have to know which one to cut, etc I dont know
  24. Eagle, I, too, have been watching the hybrid cars. That's BAD stuff right now. They make no sounds. That sounds;) great, doesnt it? Here's why it isnt so great: Since they make no sounds, rescue personnel cannot know where it is on or off when they have to cut it open. Thats a good way of hurting the rescuer. If anybody wants it, I can find the resources for you.
  25. Hey Eamonn, I was looking at the Jambo site and it got me interested. I wouldnt mind going as a staff member if I got to do something I wanted to be doing, ya know? I was wondering if you could get me some more information about the rappelling action area, the photography in the media part, and the medical/police stuff. If you could get me some info on those things, that'd be great:)
