  1. Correct it is not a new concept. I was advisor for a coed Explorer post in the early 80's. We were chartered as High Adventure. It was what would now be Ventures I suppose. This was before YPT etc, but we did need a female over 21 for outings if the girls wanted to attend. That was an ongoing challenge. This was before I got married (actually getting married was not a help to my camping efforts) and I burned through some girlfriends when I asked them to go camping with us.
  2. Not disagreeing with that sentiment. The pushback I would give is that the changes are literally all top down, and we (in the trenches volunteers) are just expected to embrace these and keep on keeping on. At this point my involvement is for the Boy Scout troop, nothing more. I guess we all have our own lines in the sand with regards to the Boy Scouts and what is the straw that breaks the camels back. Not sure when I personally get there.
  3. They were not able to figure out how to monetize the Gold Award...GSUSA - We're the capitalists in your town ®
  4. Ours (looked at a photo) seems to say Troop XXX and then the fleur-de-lis with BSA on it in the middle, CO and town noted
  5. Now you are getting into the mysterious "Linked Troops" netherworld. You can have the same CO, apparently same unit number, same committee, meet at the same time, go on the same outings BUT it is not co-ed
  6. If the name is Scouts BSA, then what does the 'S" in BSA stand for ? don't want to be redundant
  7. Out troop is busy printing shirts... We are the BOY Scouts of America Viva la resistance!! They will be on sale soon....
  8. If BSA National could get folks to pony up $33 per llama and hedgehog they would be all in I would assume there would be a llama troop and a hedgehog troop, they could share the same CO and same committee, different Zoo keepers, and they would be "linked" units. These would fall under BSA (Barnyard Scouts of America) and the new program effort that all mammals can become an Eagle. Not a literal Eagle, not like that NBC show manimal. Honestly being an Eagle may scare the hedgehogs as Eagles no doubt see them as lunch.
  9. In a serious ponder.... Wonder if this will be the move to actual coed (new slide deck a-coming) as the National has decided that the "Linked" foolishness was in fact foolishness. They are maybe planning to double down on the new movement as "thousands" come to join up
  10. It's all good...they identify as Boy Scouts We are well down that road
  11. No hitting the Boy... specifically verboten in YPT 2.0
  12. It's Tuesday and apparently there was a survey and the survey was of people (families) that are not involved in the Boy Scouts of America at this time (in fact some do not even live on this planet much less this particular dimensional plane) but they were overwhelming supportive of and interested in possibly becoming involved with an organization that perhaps was not named Boy Scouts of America and then there was a vote of the National Board of the currently named Boy Scouts of America and the vote was 123.2% in favor of possibly changing the name to something else (sadly Dallas Cowboys, Manc
  13. Good news on the exemption pushback. The timing unfortunately may not work for everyone, which sort of is what it is. If BSA was to try some sort of convoluted exemption matrix it would be a Highway to Hell paved with good intentions. Good they are holding firm on that front (at this time) Good news on the number of youth to start a unit. Actually 5 is thin, as part of BSA program is working in groups and interaction. Good they are holding firm on that front (at this time)
  14. No Lion book? Assume they are all gender neutral with an equal number of girl and boy pics?
  15. You have obviously not drunk of the "all are equal" kool aid.
  16. Back when dinosaurs ruled the earth and you had to have Tour Permits, our go to was that the invited Webelos were in fact guests there of their own volition and we did not include them on our tour permit. Also as it was voluntary and not a planned den (Web patrol) and they were family camping so from the pack side, no tour permit As for the YPT and girls on a troop visitation, not 100% sure. Can Dad bring them without Mom? Can a Dad bring his son and girl from the Webelos Den without a Mom? Does it have to be a mom? It is a good point and as the apparent new rules dictate that the fe
  17. Not disagreeing, but as they are not registered with the troop and are there as guests??? It is not a Pack outing. Lord who knows.....
  18. Short answer to your question, if you want to start a Girl Troop (Girl Boy Scout Troop??) ((Actual name to be determined)) My understanding is if you get the CO approval, 5 committee leaders, and 5 participants you can do that. Basically starting a new troop, it does not have to be Linked. A CO can have multiple units and they do not have to share committees. Our troop is not planning on changing our current objective, which is to work with young men and help them become better prepared for life as leaders, by using character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness to
