  1. "is also my understanding that GS do not have an FOS program like Boy Scouts" GSUSA has a FOS type program. I got a call from my Neighborhood Chairman last night. Was glad to donate.
  2. I've done four FOS presentations in the past two weeks and I go by dancin's philosophy (oops, how Wheelie isn't lurking). I talk from the heart and have fun with the audience. On Monday night I had the unit's SM, ASM, and an Eagle Scout hold the cards for me. While showing the pretty trinkets that the would be donors get for pledging, on cue, I had the SM say "OOOHHH". ASM say "AHHHH", and the Eagle Scout say "Pretty". The kids and the parents loved it. At a B&G I had the Tigers hold the cards, 2 Webelos attach the FOS participation ribbon to the Pack Flag. At a s
  3. PM me. I've got the new Okaw Valley CSP. I'll do a 1:1
  4. I'm an ADC and a Troop Committee Member.
  5. Very interesting thread. I had better re-read all my GSUSA Council literature to make sure this stuff doesn't show up in my daughters' Troops. I would go KS's way instead of pulling my girls out of Scouting all together.
  6. Hey firstpusk, can you help me out with a thumbs up?

    Neckerchiefs

Troop I'm with: 1. Yes 2-4. Custom Neckerchief. We got a custom patch from national (Eagle head with flag in background. Bottom of path says "Troop 5 Scott AFB" Patch is sewn on gold neckerchief. The neckerchief if worn under to collar. 5. Required at Court of Honors. 6. Boys and adults are given a neckerchief, only a few wear it meetings other than COH.
  9. Interesting thread. So I'll give it a shot. Basketry, Swimming, Mammals, Pioneering, First Aid, Leatherwork, Safety, Oceanography, Camping Emergency Prep, Indian Lore, Environmental Science, Citizenship in Nation, World, and Community, Reptile Study, Rifle and Shotgun Shooting, Woodcarving, Soil and Water Conservation, Personal Management, Communications, Canoeing. My first was Basketry at my second year at summer camp (first year I just got skill awards). I took it because it was an easy one. I also got Swimming, Mammals and Pioneering that year. My most memorable was Pioneeri
  10. "I have never seen anyone with so much knowledge at their fingertips not have a clue how to use it!" Thanks Ed...had to clean my monitor due to spitting diet coke all over it after reading your remarks!!!!! That's a good one E Pluribus Unum! Villa est villa Romani.
  11. I'm going to pull a Foggy Check out forums start page and you will see: Issues & Politics In answer to many requests, we established a separate forum for these topics. Those not interested can skip this forum instead of spending time reading unwanted messages to identify content. As for camping I hope to get back in the woods in a few weeks.

  13. We had our District Dinner last night. Great time! Lots of fun, good food and great company. Funny thing of the night was the joke we played on one of the old timers in the district. Background. John has been in Scouts longer than I've been alive. I believe he is in his upper 70's. He is a happy go lucky type of guy. He hasn't been to Wood badge. He jokingly messes with those who have been or are going. Before you WBers go on a rampage, John has stated that WB is worth wile to Scouting. The running joke for the past few months is that we are taking up a collection and sending John

  15. Wheelie wrote "As to the merit badge "Citizenship for the World". I don't remember it. I don't have my sash with me and if I did; the first thing I would do is cut it off my sash and throw it away. " After reading Wheelie's posts for the past week or so I've come up with these unscientific conclusions: 1. Wheelie isn't Yaworki or any other "odd" posters from the past. 2. Wheelie is a few bricks shy of a load. 3. Knows how to use the library very well. 4. Wheelie isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. 5. Doesn't know squat about the BSA. 6. Doubt that he was an Eagl
  16. Rudy, This area for patch trading, not patch selling. I have a few nice CSP's and OA flaps for trade if your interested. If you want to make money, or get something else in return, try ebay. Good Day
  17. FOGGY chimes "Ah, but they aren't deployed in a danger zone while they're in Dayton." Looks like Ohio is a Danger Zone now! With the riots in Cincy, and the highway sniper, I will be wearing BDUs if I go through Ohio
  18. Foggy wrote "BDU is the acronym for "Battle Dress Uniform," the camo uniform worn by the military that replaced the green fatigues. I still find it amusing that Air Force computer operators in Dayton, Ohio wear camo BDUs." That USAF computer operator in Ohio is or will be deployed. Those days of not deploying are long gone. Now everybody in the AF uniform goes across the big pond sooner or later. Speaking of new uniforms, Foggy have you seen the new AF BDU replacement uniform? http://www.af.mil/stories/story.asp?storyID=123005370 Just take a deep breath before your l
  19. Happy Birthday Hops! Born in summer 66 in Paducah KY. You guys can do the math
  20. I think it's a great idea! I'd like some of this info to for my camp.
  21. Revamp of the Camp Joy FYCP is coming along great! Our troop has COR, SM, and 3 Committee members going to the District Dinner next weekend. (A first time appearance for Troop 5).
  22. Wheeler, Best place to post things like this is on the issues and politics section of this board.
  23. EagleinKY wrote "BTW, all crews get lost the first day. It's part of the plan." When I went as a youth in 1980 we didn't get lost the first day...It was the 4th day
  24. Let the boys decide. Adults have no vote. Advisors are on "vacation" out at Philmont. When I was out there last summer our crew got "lost" three times on the first day. I could have grabbed the map from the crew leader and taken over, but I stood around and looked the trees and flowers. Actually had a nice long conversation with our ranger while we were hiking the wrong trail. The boys learned how to solve a problem on their own, and I learned how to keep my mouth shut.(This message has been edited by purcelce)
  25. (Scratching head, looking puzzled) Ok...I read the post twice. Good quotes, etc. Now my question. What is point of this post?
