  1. This is by no means scientific just my observations, opinions, and comments. I got a few PM from folks too. This is by no means a guage of an average or quality troop. Each Troop has it's own personality, just like all humans. So for your reading and Scouting pleasure I give you Cary P's results..... How many boys registered? How many boys active? Troops run from 5 to 105 in membership. Looking at my numbers and using my math it looks like the average for active is 70% - 80%. That's good How many Patrols? Patrols range from 1 to 9. Looks like the 8 members per Patrol is here Does your troop go to summer camp in or out of Council? Good news is all Troops go to summer camp. About a third of the Troops rotate in and out of council Does your troop go to Dist/Council Camporees? Yes for the most part Does your troop support FOS? YES (That should make DS and Commandopro happy) Does your troop sell Popcorn? If not, what are your fundraisers? Most of the Troops sell Popcorn, and everyone does some type of fundraiser Does your troop use NSP, FCFY method? Some do, Some dont, some use it when needed. Does your troop have a Venture Patrol? About 20% have a Venture Patrol Does your troop have a feeder pack? Most have a feeder pack How does your troop recruit non-Cub Scouts? Most do other types of recruiting. This is good news. Has your troop seen your Unit Commissioner in the past 6 months? Is your Unit Commissioner helpful or a pain? 50 55% have not seen their UC. Those who do say he/she is helpful for the most part. It looks like the Commish Service needs some work BSA wide. Does your troop leaders attend Roundtable? About 95% of the Troops send somebody to RT How many members are on your troop committee? Ranges from 4 to 30. Is your troop boy led? All are boy led or attempting to be boy led
  2. I'm all for it. It keeps my country (and yours) safe from the bad guys.
  3. The post by Achilleez is NOT an Act of congress, the president or any other U.S. governing body. This document was written in mid 90's by a bunch of Air Force big wigs. It's a "vision" of the Air Force for the 21st Century. Proud Eagle sums it up really well. For the official web page go to http://www.au.af.mil/au/awc/awcgate/global/nuvis.htm So what's your concerns Achilleez? Cary P, MSgt, USAF
  4. FloridaScout, Congratulations! Wear your eagle badge, (and when you turn 18 eagle knot) with pride. Bob you are a party pooper I'm pretty sure his Eagle BOR advised him of the procedures. YIS Cary P Eagle 81
  5. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081466/ The Gary Coleman movie was "Scouts Honor" made in 1980.
  6. I remember the Gary Coleman movie, but can't think of the title. Let me check imdb and I'll get back.
  7. This morning at 6:30 it was 29. It's now 10:00 am and the temp has dropped to 21 with an 11 windchill...I hate winter.....Only 90 days or so til spring.
  8. Commando, Let me welcome you to the fire and extend my appologies for the FOS crack earlier on this thread. We're like family here and now your one of us Hope all is well down South...I wish I was back down in the Southern region now...It's cold up here. YIS Cary P
  9. Last night our Logde have it's Winter Banquet. One of my friends came by and said hi. Come to find out he's a poster here on the boards. I'll keep his username secret to protect the innocent (him) and the not so innocent (me). Guess I'll have to stop badmouthing his troop here JUST KIDDING Our banquet was quite the success last night. We had about 200 people attending. Four Vigils canidates recognized, new SE with some great words of wisdom, and got to see lots of friends who I hadn't seen since summer. Word got out that I'm working summer camp staff, so many Troops are now going out of council this year. JUST KIDDING
  10. "There are times when I have intense pressure and a crisis of epic proportions but I just grab the sports section and head up stairs & after awhile it goes away." Thanks Ed....I just spit coffee all over my monitor again. That was funny
  11. Hey Proud Eagle, I'm a White Feather Lodge Alumnus. Was Vice Chief and got my Vigil as a youth in White Feather. I even have a picture of a White Feather Society Sash. (White Feather painted on Red Sash). Any hoo...On to the subject. Our Council started the Tribe of Manasah back in 2001. It's a MOS knock off. Has some good points. Only thing that concerns me is this program is not youth led.
  12. I guess BW wins.... I was actually thinking about the scene in "Airplane".
  13. SA Wrote "Among the world's shortest lists: Rock Stars That Are Good Moral Role Models Donny Osmond? " LMBO......... Sorry but Donny wasn't a little bit rockinroll. How about Pat Boone? Did did do a cd of heavy metal covers. His rendition of Ozzy's "Crazy Train" and Metalica's "Enter Sandman" puts Donny to shame.
  14. Can anybody tell me where this headline appeared? The winner gets 50 bucks (donated in their name to OVC FOS).
  15. It appears that commandopro might be "Professional" Scouter. Sounds like he's one of "those" that only cares about the almighty dollar instead, of serving the youth and volunteers. I wish you well on your FOS, with that type of attitude you'll need it. (This message has been edited by purcelce)
  16. Very Interesting. Now my patch collecting goal of collecting oa flaps by numbers has been shot now
  17. Speaking of British Humor.... The best Brit show ever put out was "Faulty Towers".
  18. Pretty much any band is not a good role model. But I'm with on the music side. I AM IRON MAN!
  19. PFFFFBBBBTTTTTT (Rasberries) to the Beatles. The ultimate non-role model has to go to Ozzy. I love the old Black Sabbath tune "Iron Man"!!!!
  20. Hops, The troop will be going to Camp Van for the Kaskaskia Dist Klondike in Feb. After a few emails I found out that St. Clair isn't having a Klondike. Actually the Kaskaskia Klondike will have Troops from St. Clair and Crooked Creek. I'll see you there.
  21. SPLT15, I like the new CSP. You want a Okaw Valley CSP with Popeye ?
  22. Yea Haa! We're really partying now at the purcelce house! Kids are fed, cartoons are on the boob tube, and I'm nursing an adult beverage...about two will be my limit. I smell a 9 p.m bedtime...so much for the watching the ball at time square...
  23. TP wrote "39 states allow a trained law abiding citizen the right to carry if they so choose, Illinois is not one of them. Can we sell cede Chicago to Wisconsin? " Amen to that. We yahoos down in the southern part of the state are stuck with some pretty goofy handgun laws due to the knuckleheads in Chicago and Springfield. I own a Smith and Wesson 9 MM. It sits in my dad's gun safe in Ky. I refuse to pay for a Firearm Owner's Permit. Why should I have to pay another "tax" on my gun. I paid the sales tax when I bought the thing 10 years ago.
  24. DS wrote "Just out of curiousity (and a bit of experience are the guys wearing the "old" council strip in protest the same guys who never had a good word to say about the old council before the merger? " Here a story about my protest. I hate our CSP with Popeye on it. The creator of Popeye was from our council and we have the rights to use Popeye characters. I just can't stand the Popeye cartoons (call me wierd). So in Protest I wear non Popeye Okaw Valley CSPs. One shirt I have the old CSP with the rainbow, and on another shirt I wear the "High Adventure" OVC CSP. Any other stories like this one out there.
  25. All I got was my medal, patch, and a few letters..... But the best thing I've seen is a Scout Shadow Box. A grandfather of an Eagle got the Scout's MB sash, badges of rank, and a few other things. He placed them in a shadow box that now hangs in this kid's bedroom. Really nice.
