I know that they are military terms, I was must wondering how the terms became so popular with the BSA crowd, if it has never been in a BSA publication." Ok now's my time to chime in. Class A and B uniforms are ARMY terms. The Air Force has the Mess Dress, Service Dress, and Battle Dress Uniforms. Now back to your regularly scheduled debate... The is no mention of what type of shoe to wear with the BSA field uniform in the Boy Scout Handbook.

what to do about caneled campouts
purcelce replied to andrewcanoe's topic in Open Discussion - Program
Why wre the campouts canceled? If not enough adult leadership, try tagging along with another troop on their campout. Our Troop does this with our sister troop about 3 times a year. -
Bridge Crossing for boys not joining a troop
purcelce replied to CMFB's topic in Advancement Resources
Manyirons stated "Just thought I'd chime in with the apparent minority - let 'em all cross over the bridge." Good arguments (lawyer type arguments) made for letting them all cross. I'm still sticking with the argument that the bridging is for those going into Boy Scouts. One Pack in town has 6 Webelos crossing to Boys Scouts at B&G in two weeks. There are 3 Webelos that will not cross until May due coming in the program late and are still working on their AOL. (Rhetorical question) Should these 3 boys cross at B&G with the others? BTW Manyirons, How many Webelos are headed to your troop this year? And where are you guys going to summer camp at? -

There is a CSP change in my council about every year. Since I joined up with OVC back in Apr 2002 there have been three issues of the regular csp, 3 FOS CSPs (give 60 bucks or more to FOS and you get one), 1 High Adventure CSP (must have been to Philmont, Jambo, etc, to buy), New Service Center fundraiser CSP sponsored by OA (costs 10 bucks), and the 2005 Jambo fundraiser CSP. This a nightmare for patch collectors like me.

OA and Exploring (back in the old days)

Foggy...that link to the Senior Scouting History was awesome! If you know of more sites like this please let me know. -
When I went to Philmont last year my pack weighed 60 lbs. Back when I was a youth and went in 1980 it was 35 lbs. I carried a heck of a lot more water on the 2003 trek.

Next question. ASM was acting SM due to SM gone for 6 months due to the job. SM moved and ASM took over as SM. Does the time the ASM was acting SM count toward the award?

thanks Bob

Proper Use of the Flag - Super Bowl Half - time
purcelce replied to NWScouter's topic in Issues & Politics
Here's some more press: VFW Angry Over Kid Rock Poncho Feb 4, 10:01 AM EST Associated Press Forget Janet Jackson: The Veterans of Foreign Wars is peeved at Kid Rock. The VFW is upset that media outlets are ignoring the poncho Rock wore during the Super Bowl halftime show, which was made by cutting a slit in an American flag. Rock later tossed the flag into the crowd. The VFW's commander in chief, Edward Banas Senior, says Rock's outfit was "in poor taste and extremely disrespectful." Banas lamented that the NFL, MTV and CBS have issued apologies for Justin Timberlake's ripping Janet Jackson's clothes but have said nothing about Rock. CBS faces a Federal Communications Commission investigation into whether the Super Bowl show violated decency laws, with potential fines of up to $27,500. If applied to each CBS station, the fines could reach into the millions. FCC chief Michael Powell said Tuesday that the agency had begun a formal investigation, and a letter was sent to CBS. "It's well under way," he said. All five commissioners expressed concern about the Super Bowl broadcast, but Powell declined to speculate on what the FCC would do once the investigation was finished. Powell said he wasn't happy with the halftime show in general, including Rock's performance. Rock's representatives could not be reached for comment. -
Does Scouting prepare kids for life? Yes...that's my perspective of the Scouting program.

Proper Use of the Flag - Super Bowl Half - time
purcelce replied to NWScouter's topic in Issues & Politics
I looked at some pics up close of Kid Rock's poncho and it "appears" to be made of nylon. So my guess it is an acual flag which is a no-no. As far as clothing that looks like U.S. Flags (and are not wardrobe malfunctions), I've got no no problem with people wearing it. In other news...Do you think the Wardrobe Malfunction will affect Mike's case? -
Cool! But I though Freedom Rock was the name of the K-Tel record of hippie music.

We attempted a JLT at last year's BSA 101. Ended up needing the older boys to help out with new boys, so TJLT was put on hold. It depends is how big is the troop, how many would boys are doing JLT and how many are non-JLT. If you have a big Troop then do TJLT campout seperate. If it's a small troop then have the whole troop there. Just have something planned for the non-JLT guys. Above are my opinions.

BSA470Firstaider wrote "...well at this point I feel like since I'm a youth I might as well go back with all the other youth who don't care because each and everytime a "kid" or a "MTV junkie" or a "punk" try's to join a discussion they become bashed, and brutalized...Well maybe it's my fault for caring to much, or maybe it's scouter.com's for not having a special youth section where we can be alone I don't know but this is getting sadder by the day." Hold on there! You stated that you joined this discussion and group and got bashed and brutalized because you are a youth? If this correct, you brought this on yourself. There are quite a few youth on these boards that haven't been "bashed, and brutalized" by us old guys. Now on to the orginal post. I don't have a problem with women in BSA. I'll steal BW's words. They say it best.... "It is not the gender of the person that makes them a good leader of the scouting program, but the character they bring with them that matters."

Washington State Jamboree (WashJam 2004)
purcelce replied to captainron14's topic in Open Discussion - Program
This looks similar to the Illini Jamboree they have each year in Champaign Il. I've been to both Illini Jambos and they are a blast. -
Our Klondike will be a one day event on a Saturday. Troops have the option to camp Sat night.

Some of us come here for advise and solutions to a problem. I for one say keep things as is. As FOG stated "Advice and opinions are presented as such and it is up to the recipient to decide what to do with them. " Should be the rule of thumb.
