  1. Wow...talk about between a rock and a hard place. I agree with other posters. If you don't feel comfortable signing off on their Eagle requirements, don't. Put your reasons in writing and submit them to the EBOR, if it gets that far.
  2. I agree, the best thing to do is talk to the CR, and the Scout Exec......they could render a decision and keep it confidential.
  3. Unless they had a real good excuse (sudden death, hospitalization, etc) That kid would not go camping with me again. The risk of being accused of something, or ending up in a bad situation is too great. You have to protect yourself. Plus, you are being used as a babysitter.
  4. Apollo 13 made several references to the Boy Scouts
  5. My troop just had the annual overnighter last Friday night.....the total cost for a program very similar to yours was 35.00 each......30 is not an outragious figure at all....for the parents to expect you to foot the bill as a Christmas present is insane at best....criminal at worst.....
  6. I had one when I first became an ASM back in the mid 70's
  7. I have a campaign hat that I purchased when I came back into scouting as an adult volunteer 20 years ago. Keeps the sun off my bald head, plus my neck, ears, face, and nose. My son requested one for himself when he completed his Eagle rank.
  8. The last I heard, it was still every 2 years.
  9. It is sad that all those parents witnessed this and did nothing. By all means contact the Cubmaster and the Committee Chairman. The parent goes, or you do. You don't have to put up with that sort of behavior for 1 minute.
  10. Awesome attitude. More scouters should feel like you do. The best thing would be to attend Commisioner training.
  11. The troop I currently serve goes to the council camp every year, same week. They also offer several high adventure trips that the boys decide on. We encourage all first year scouts to go to the council camp.
  12. Camps are going to accept Venture Crews to keep paying the bills. My council camp has a dress code that all campers are expected to abide by. Dressing inappropriately is not proper for either sex.
  13. I wear it on my uniform, but it is optional. (The ring)
  14. Sure, Wood Badge would count. But the meaning of the requirement also, is for something like a yearly program kickoff meeting that my council does (that meeting is done either instead of, or in addition to a roundtable).
  15. I have had parents give me their son's completed medical form as we were loading up the cars to depart.
  16. Glad you are getting your attendance problem on campouts taken care of. Be prepared to cut those 2 loose if they don't turn it around.
  17. One open side....sounds like enough under the stars for me. We slept in shelters like that on Isle Royale while backpacking there.
  18. I think your comment on the weather is appropriate. I have been to 2 Grant Pilgrimages. I recall somebody from the sponsoring Council's office telling me that about 90% of the years they have had rain. Great event though.

    Snug trousers?

The older style of pants definately fit more snug. The newer ones have the elastic in them. Yes, they shrink just hanging in the closet.
  20. Yes, I always wear my Eagle medal to Eagle Court of Honors. Also Scout Sunday, and Eagle Recognition day at Summer Camp.

    Poly wool shirts

I bought one once, because I thought it would be warmer. It just has a different appearance than the cotton/poly blend in my opinion. Was comfortable though.
  22. I have always worn the uniform when traveling on scout outings. A fellow scouter picked up the dinner tab for my entire crew one evening because my son and I were in uniform.
