The research below comes from the www.Scouting.org search function www.scouting.org/webmasters/faq/guidelines.aspx Here's the specific stuff for unit web sites: www.scouting.org/webmasters/faq/guidelines.aspx#uws Here's the link it spins off to: http://old.scouting.org/webmasters/units.html Read these. CC should sit down with Chartered Partner IH/COR. Let the Chartered Partner give you some guidance about what they want in terms of your site. Don't know why the URLs don't format well; recommend you do a copy and paste to your url bar. Finally, scouting.org is getting better as a repository of program support information. I commend it to Scouters and parents. YIS(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)

This is not rocket science. Youth Protection training is available online at the MyScouting website: http://www.scouting.org/Applications/MyScoutingFull.aspx Have him get out his membership card (the number is useful to log training, log on to My Scouting, and do the training. BTW, you didn't say who advised you? Your Chartered Partner may have more restrictive requirements for training than the National minimums. You may have someone in your unit or District who has an animus against this guy. I cannot begin to tell you from afar. Clear the piece of sand out of the machine , and let's see if another sticking point magically pops up or not.

That's one of two I could live with. (I have a friend who does have a "fun" grubmaster knot on his District Committee uniform). The other one would be LNT Master Trainer. BTW, I do not hold either of those certifications. I'm lucky to get a dump cake out of a Dutch unburnt 3 times out of 4, and LNT is far down the trail of trainings I want to take (and frankly, doing the work I do, I'd rather become a master of frontcountry LNT than backcountry LNT).(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)

FireKat wrote, in part: "My son has given up on OA as it has just become a popularity contest and a method to hurt others." OK. How does your Troop work to make sure that OA candidacy is not a popularity contest? How do your E-teams and Lodge Leadership work to ensure Ordeal Candidacy is about the 3 ethics espoused by WWW??? It hurts at a gut-check level when I see what FireKat wrote. It wasn't what the Order was about in 1970, it sure isn't what it should be about today!

Welcome to the Forums. Are you meaning something akin to "Flat Stanley"??

I'll gladly recruit for PTC. I'll gladly attend courses at PTC. Even taking training, it's a tremendous break from the day job. There is NWIH I will wear a PTC knot. It comes in the same group of "bribery" incentives that the 3d bead for NYLT staff and NESA Life Member knots do! Who is on drugs at the National Office?

Is Wood Badge just about "the beads"?
John-in-KC replied to John-in-KC's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
BeaverIII, Only up to a point. I've done a fair bit of adult ed, and done a fair bit of work with kids now. I'm more an adult ed type; it's hard for me to suffer someone learning the same lessons I learned the hard way also learning them the hard way. I like my students much better when we've been through the school of hard knocks a time or two. If National and the Councils have a problem recruiting staff for NYLT, they need to be revisiting the curriculum, the staff workload, and other matters to see what the gap is, if any. In both the NYLT matter and the NESA lifetime member knot, National's solution has been: "Gee, let's give away a bauble incentive." That's bribery, imo. -
Is Wood Badge just about "the beads"?
John-in-KC replied to John-in-KC's topic in Wood Badge and adult leader training
BeaverIII, My Course Director said the same thing. To complicate matters, I don't think Lisa and I are in the same region. You might want to check with the Regional Office for interpretation on the comment from the Admin Guide. It can be read two ways: One being taking the course OR completing the field work portion of the course, the other being taking the course AND completing the field work. EagleSon's Scoutmaster annually had a simple talk with each year group of boys. Talked about the values of the Order: Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service. Told them to make an honest call. Also told them if they didn't think they knew Scouts well enough to vote, to abstain as the vote began. Boys did a pretty good job of sorting out who didn't deserve Candidacy.

Another dead horse... http://www.scouter.com/forums/viewThread.asp?threadID=193693 We've been here already. [ cynicism ] I thought it was "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle." Now we have "Some Eagles donate better than others." [ / cynicism ]

Here is what was reported at the Interagency Fire information site for New Mexico, www.nmfireinfo.com: The West Fork Fire The 4,950 acre West Fork Fire is burning east of Raton on the Vermejo Park Ranch. A Type II Incident Management Team from Arizona assumed command of the fire yesterday at 6 am. The fire is 40 % contained and is burning primarily in ponderosa pine, pinon and juniper fuels types. Fire behavior consists of smoldering with occasional low intensity surface fire; crews made considerable progress towards completely burnout operations. Very difficult topography creates challenges in constructing and securing direct handline in some areas of the outer perimeter of the fire. Today's objective is to continue patrolling, mop-up and fireline construction. Approximately 401 personnel from multiple local, state and federal agencies are assigned to the fire, as well as 16 engines, eight water tenders, one helicopters, two heavy air tankers, 11 handcrews, and two dozers. Monday, 06-23-08, 09:11AM Another site I found is the US Dept of the Interior/USDA joint website www.geomac.gov. There appears to be a fire NE of Tucumcari and another fire called the West Fork fire. There is no new info on googlenews.

Trev, Like Neil, congratulations to your Scout! Let us know how this wends through the system...

Welcome to the Forums. I'm in pretty strong agreement with GW. Scoutmaster Conferences about the wonderful stuff carried in our spittle might be appropriate, but punishment? A quiet word of apology off to the side to the ASM, and an understanding that accepting responsibility for one's actions is a good thing should see the end of this. Themes? Safety and "bad news is not Mom's chili, it doesn't improve with age."

PM me with full name and contact info. Our current Lodge chief is a young man I've known half a dozen years. He's been big into both C and Dance teams. If he doesn't have resources, someone will. It's too bad we're not having NOAC this year. This is a darn fine question to bounce around the cracker barrel there!

P212, I'm not worried about in the car. I'm worried about the unit at the camp. My Council also runs a Cub Family Overnight Camp (Bear year level). If we are talking 1 kid/1 parent, the Director and Business manager tie them off to a larger unit whose leader has the complete suite of training (FS, NLE, YP, and Posn Spec for posn). If we are talking 2 different kids, then our Council has two different parents, one of whom must be trained.

If you're out at PTC (or in Cimarron), what does Reservation Staff say? Looking at Googlenews and through it the KOAT Albuqueruqe website, there is nothing about any fires near Cimarron as of 6PM Central June 23 2008.

I went and looked at my Council Scout Camp leader guides. Frankly, there is more dress code for ADULTS (1 pc bathing suits for women, no sleeveless shirts or blouses, no open toed shoes) than there are for the youth. Is the horse dead yet?

There are times I want to take "A Scout is friendly" and tell someone else "put it..." Then I get the point again: We're doing this for the sake of all these young kids. Call other kids' Mom or Dad. Tell her/him/them when you're leaving and where you're leaving from. Considering gas is $$ a gallon, I'd also say what 1/2 the gas price is. BTW, who is providing the 2d deep leadership for you? You're ok 1/1 with your own son, but...

Is this horse dead yet? GW has it right.

Running through googlenews, either: a) Westboro didn't show after all or... b) The news folks covering the funerals decided discussing Westboro just wasn't worth it.

We need to be careful of what we ask for. Remember, we in the field wanted a metric for "Active." National Advancement Committee gave us that metric in ACP&P #33088 and Requirements #33215. We don't like it very much, do we? If we ask the National Advancement Committee for a metric on uniform, they'll give us one. They can bloody well make possession of the full Scout uniform a condition of membership and advancement, as a stated requirement. That may cost us some youth. There are youth on the Scouting margin, where the lawnmowing money is part of the family budget. Be careful of what you ask for... you may well get it.

Funny. My Council also uses District patches. We're starting to migrate away from them, though. It's part of the de-cluttering of doo-dads and knicknacks as we migrate to the new uniform.(This message has been edited by John-in-KC)

Is anybody there? Does anybody care? Does anybody see what I see? They want to me to quit; they say John, give up the fight Still to England I say Good night, forever, good night! For I have crossed the Rubicon Let the bridge be burned behind me Come what may, come what may Commitment! The croakers all say we'll rue the day There'll be hell to pay in fiery purgatory Through all the gloom, through all the gloom I see the rays of ravishing light and glory! Is anybody there? Does anybody care? Does anybody see what I see? I see fireworks! I see the pagaent and Pomp and parade I hear the bells ringing out I hear the cannons roar I see Americans - all Americans Free forever more How quiet, how quiet the chamber is How silent, how silent the chamber is Is anybody there? Does anybody care? Does anybody see what I see? ... John Adams (as sung by William Daniels), 1776 the musical (Broadway and film)
