I will see what I can do. No promises though;)

They do have something similar already. I believe it is tan though.

When I said that it kind of felt like he was wanting me to take charge of it, I meant that it felt more of a request for me to do so and IF that is the case, I will more than gladly do so. I've skimmed parts of this and read entire other parts. We'll see what happens. I hope we can get some more high adventure type stuff going soon.

Our SM informed the PLC (3 scouts and 2 leaders tonite) that he felt there was a need to start a Venture Patrol and possibly get the older boys a little bit more involved and actually doing stuff at meetings. He kind of was making it sound like this was something he really wanted to happen and was almost putting it on my shoulders to do. I may be weird in thinking thats how he put it, but if thats how he put it great. He said that he was going to go get the program materials for us to read and decide. I hope he has those for next week's meeting. What suggestions do you have for us to get started?
-
Apparently you guys just read that in the way that you were thinking. I'm agreeing with Trail here. Remember, a Venture Crew has the option to choose their uniform!
-
It's called a "uniform" for a reason. There arent supposed to be a lot of differences between each one.

LNT- Trainer Course

Hey, what part of the council are you from? I'm from Okaw Valley on the IL side;) -
Our troop owns about 15 tents. They vary in models. I believe we own like 8 Tentragon 9's, a few Winnebegos (old), and a couple A-frame tents made by Eureka I believe. Many people dont realize that our tents cost about $250 apiece! Our policy on tents is very simple-- We prefer that you use a troop tent at all camporees and preferably all campouts except summer camp. No cots and no food allowed in troop tents. Food not reccomended in personal tents either. No flames in any tents. We have about 50 boys registered in the troop as well as probably 10-15 leaders. Usually, though, our campouts only consist of 30-50% troop participation. Summer camp the last two years we have been right around 30-35 boys and 4-5 leaders.

I'd like to hear about that rescue:) and your training;)

Well, If its in the 12 AM time period, you've got lots of time to wait. -
I dont know if you could do that or not, I'm just a mod;) Not a tech;) I do know where you can get a forum of your own, but it will have a few ads on it. If you are interested, let me know and I'll pass it along.

Personally, I think that troops should look into buying a PLB or two and taking them along on campouts. 2 ways are totally different. I also think that they should be carried. I think that if I go to summer camp next summer I may try getting everybody to have one so that we know where everybody is at all times. They are even cheaper than mentioned above. They can be had for as low as 10 bucks at Walmart and they are also decent radios. You just have to be careful though because the newer radios have the GMRS which require a license. FRS radios do not.

Making your own unifroms should not be done and probably against the law by imitating a BSA uniform. This thread is locked to prevent critisism which is not needed and to prevent further conflict.

At this time, SCOUTER does not allow images to be posted into a post. I do not know the real reasoning behind this, but I'm guessing the reason is that images use a lot more bandwith than text does. This would also slow down the loading times of the site. If you would like, you can send them to me and I will post them onto my site if you dont have your own.

Term usage is impairing some people in this thread.... "Summer Camp" usually refers to a week-long Boy Scout residence camp where usually the focus is on advancement. Still having fun is important though "Day Camp" is what you appear to be describing. It is open usually to boys who just recieved their Bobcat badge until they are out of the pack. Foucs it usually on having fun while still working on advancement.

Whats that?? I found this over at meritbadge.net Theory: "Boy Scouts" (adults and youth) are not "skilled" in this particular method of communication. Netiquette is definitely NOT what I'd call a "Scoutcraft" skill. FACT: Moderators try to look at it (every post) from both sides. It's easy to for a Moderator to step in and rebuke an outright "flame" or "troll." Really, it is. OPINION: It is important to learn about and inculcate to others the use of netiquette. The Moderators on this board really do try to guide users in positive ways, of which, proper use of netiquette is only a part. If we don't, then some of our users whose online personalities are not as strong, will stop logging on; they would simply fade out or fall back, never bothering to post anything for fear of being misinterpreted, flamed, etc. FACT: Moderators make mistakes, too. (Sorry.) Bob's 10 Tips for Message-boarding, aka, MB-101: 1. Try to be thick-skinned about it. IOW, if you're "put off" by somebody's post, but there's the slightest inkling that you might've misinterpreted it... you did. So, let it go. 2. If you want to "show" (humorous) sarcasm, use a little "smiley face" or something. Then, everybody will see the humor, without question. "Emoticons" can be a good thing; I don't much care for them, but I must admit, a little " " goes a long, long way at preventing misunderstandings and even more so, hurt feelings. 3. Speaking of feelings, some people just don't have any. And worse yet, some just don't care about yours... and they never ain't gonna care neither. So, don't bother getting upset; it won't do ya' no good. 4. PLEASE, NO "ALL CAPS" -- IT MAKES PEOPLE THINK YOU"RE YELLING AT THEM! (CAN YOU HEAR ME, NOW?) 5.a. If you can "Spell Check" your work, do so. Otherwise, don't sweat it too much, especially if youre on the reading end. 5.b. A little slang is okay. But, doan git so fer n2it, da we cant rel8 cuz we ain ur peeps. 6. Tips "5.a" and "b" do not to imply, in anyway whatsoever, that... if you're a student in middle school, high school, college student, whatever... you don't have to worry about grammar, punctuation, etc.... you're dead wrong. If you don't know how to spell it, define it, or relate it to similar words, I have only one thing to say to you... GO LOOK IT UP! 7. Don't talk at us. Don't type at me. Talk to me. What do I mean by that? Type as if I am right there, listening to you. It may be grammatically incorrect, but the meaning will come across closer to what you actually want us to see (in our minds). After reading this comment, you will forevermore notice the striking "format" or "style" of words in a GOOD novel. It ain't nothin' like what we got in school when I was a kid. (See what I mean?) 8. If you really want to know about netiquette, go read the 10 tips on http://www.onlinenetiquette.com/netiquette_101.html Netiquette referenced above. I promise, it'll save a lot of grief, for lack of a better word. 9. No cursing. Nuff said. It simply ain't necessary (in here) to get your point across. 10. If you hurt somebody's feelings, apologize. Please take these things in mind.

Right now, they're too much for each scout. I'd much rather take that money and purchase radios, whistles, and other survival equipment that would be better suited for use by boys. I have seen them for 250ish I believe in a Scout magazine, dont remember which one. Also, just drill, drill, drill the buddy system in and we shouldnt have the problems.

I was wondering when/if you were going to catch on UNC.
