    • NBC Nightly News reported two scout troops aboard Amtrak train that struck dump truck in rural Missouri. Passengers on the train included 16 youths and eight adults from two Boy Scout troops who were traveling home to Appleton, Wisconsin, after a backcountry excursion at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, but no one in the group was seriously injured, said Scott Armstrong, director of national media relations for the Boy Scouts of America. The Scouts administered first aid to several injured passengers, including the driver of the dump truck, Armstrong said. https://www.postcrescent.com/story/news/local/2022/06/27/appleton-boy-scouts-adults-amtrak-train-derailed-missouri/7751666001/ https://www.twincities.com/2022/06/27/3-killed-when-amtrak-train-hits-truck-derails-in-missouri/

These adjustments will help more effectively build a Scout’s outdoor ethics knowledge and align with the information in the Scouts BSA Handbook and Fieldbook. The requirements now build in a logical way through the ranks, with Leave No Trace (LNT) and the Outdoor Code (OC) used as references throughout. Beginning August 1, 2022, these minor modifications to the Scouts BSA requirements for the ranks of Scout through Star will take effect. Scouts may continue using the existing requirements for the rank on which they are currently working, or they may choose to use the new requirements. Scouts must use the new requirements once they advance to their next rank. On January 1, 2023, all Scouts must use only the new requirements. The specific changes are detailed below.  In addition, beginning July 1, 2022, the Citizenship in Society merit badge becomes required for the rank of Eagle. Finally, new videos were created to support “Personal Safety Awareness” (chapter 13) of the Scouts BSA Handbook. These can be used as an alternative to earning the Cyber Chip. The specific changes can be found here. 2022-Scouts-BSA-rank-requirements-side-by-side.pdf
    • Great example.     ...  You will face those that say the MB process is important to teach the scout etc, etc...   I agree with that, but also hugely value the scout getting these special experiences.  ... It's not mutually exclusive.  ... Great story.
    • Sounds like great MBs.  Exactly the type of experience I would want my son have ... way better than a MB fair.   Work with your SM to get these communicated ... and how to communicate similar in the future.  If there is an issue, keep working thru it until you reach a healthy conclusion.
    • Hopefully we will see adjustments to this.  For example; as part of the agreement for facility use, the BSA, LC will make an impertuity loan of all such equipment to the unit, charging them say $1 or something like that.  With a little imagination, the units can continue pretty much on course and not worry that the LC will suddenly step in and say we want all our equipment back to offer to another group, or whatever.  Or, can't the equipment simply be owned still by the church and they "loan" it to the unit in perpetuity?
