The above ideas are good. But the problems with scout skills is that 1. A large amount of scouter themselves never have done the skill 2. of those of you have done the skill it may be ok in the deer camp but not at a scout camp. 3.Large amounts of both groups never have read the scout book to see what the currently really is skill is 4. the youth are not encouraged to expand their skills. I do not see any other choice other than the unit being council sponsored. Why would my organization want to CO to a unit (take on all the leadership risks) meeting some where else because the first group has concerns about BSA and liability.

A problem that has not been brought up, or I may have missed it. Many current church sponsors required that the scout leadership state that they agreed with the teachings of that church. A CO pastor could require membership to be from his church only. Under the facilities use only, they lose that control, so a traditional church that does not support homosexuality could have the council appoint a gay or lesbian scouter or other leadership—leaving them few choices.

If the girls are not registered as members of a charter troop/crew or lone scouts, they would I believe they would be unable to process any awards. If the boy troop is processing their awards for them, then it is committing fraud. Yes, coed troops are the future, but not now. Somewhere in the scout and law, obeying the rules is part of the system. Work to change the rules if you feel improper, but you do not have the right to change things to fit what you want.

Camp will never to able to compete pay rates with private camps or even public systems. $200 per camper verse $600 plus This should not have come as any surprise. The local camp will need to compete with a n increasing private sector demand and even against other councils camps and nation or regional scout camps. If he truly poked (touched)the child that is physical abuse of a youth member under youth protection and he should be reported if he want to get all legal about scout rules.

if Any summer camp is to happen I could see the following requirments 1. limit the number of camper to 1/4 Camp normal capacity (bases on last years attendence) 2. Test camper for fever at check in 3. Test staff daily 4. Have isolation areas set up 5. Limit the number of weeks (possible skip weeks for cleaning) 6. Decrease the days to five (for cleaning) 7. one scout per tent 8. No foreign scouts or scouters 9. no out of state scouts 10 decrease size of any merit badge class to 10 or less Just my ramblings , still having a hard time believing any summer camps will happen, praying they do, Offering to help out as health office for free at my local camp Fr. Why would anyone pay that must for online merit badge class when there are hundreds of classes going on now for free. Your right that camp and council is starting to smell.

While it would be nice to think summer camps will happen I am not putting much faith in it. If the virus was lifted from the earth by end of April. The fear would still be there , The lack of money and other resources by parent who may be just getting back to work. Finding supplies to open camp may not be possible or very expensive. Finding college age youths to be our staff may be also hard as colleges may be opening for the summer to help make up for missed classes. This sadly may be the death of a lot of councils and scouting as we know it. All charitable groups fund raising is way down so is friends of scouting. My question is even if an event is canceled there are already non recoverable costs that the council/Area has to cover. If that event was to be a major money maker how does the council in todays market survive?. We have a major council wide camporee planned in about 4 weeks. do not see it happening with OA and venturing weekends every weekend to follow?

We may be seeing the prefect storm that will push many councils over the financial brink · Loss of LDS unit and fee’s · Loss of continued loss of membership · National financial issues effecting local giving · National continued bad press effecting local view of scouting · Fear of the corona virus keep parents from sending the children to camp. I believe like my council many councils depend on summer camp to cover a large part of camp upkeep. If these councils were to see a $ loss on the summer camp the results may be the final weight that breaks the finical backs of many. I can easily see these same issues be expressed on a regional and national level with canceled or smaller that planned OA and venturing events. It could go as far as canceling the national jamboree (it would not be the first time) john
