  1. Another thought is that if I sign the card without trainning, you then I am a fraud and a liar.
  2. You make me proud to find someone else who teaches to the stature. I have said no to large 1-hour cpr classes. They always find someone else. There is no requirement for the merit badge for cards, but I will add it on the side if the scout would like. I cover the price of the card. But i do what someone who knows the correct answer, teaching the badge and hopefully an EMT or higher, to give some real-life encouragement. Basic skill was not the only part of an MB.
  3. It goes along with the cheapest way. All courses and training have been dumbed down, and the number of students has increased. It's just box-checking. OK, you attended.
  4. Please never fall for training instead of certification on anything. The one time something goes wrong, that card says that by my signing it, I currently have the training and certification to teach, evaluate, and certify you as trained and tested against a national standard. The cost for the card does vary, from $8 to $10 for AHA cards, Scouting, and ECSI, and the Red Cross has special rates for their classes. Remember, it's not just a check-off box if it goes wrong.
  5. I can not find a photo of the rocket, but looking at the rules and thrust allowed by motors, I see that these are not the standard balsa wood rockets we shot as kids. Still, it is a great achievement.
  6. https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/safety-moments/rocket-safety/ its not activity itself i did the same while in HS its the use of the egg as loosely stated payloads are not allowed plus them building their own launch pad may be not manufacturing approved. i could not find must else not really a big mater but we know at times the BSA can be picky at times again hats off to their award. i am surprised remember reading more based on suggest searches there may have need more.
  7. Sounds great wayto go but it looks like the it would not met scouting guide for rocketry. So not an approved scout activity
  8. You can only help the ones you can.For one to survive, help is that you can pray for rest and ask God to help you know the differencee
  9. I am in no way wanting to restrict landowners using good management practices, but it looks like one thing, do something else if there is money to be made, scouting = $$
  10. very impressive project. i would unfortunately have to say that scout involvement violates the scouting LNT principles as this sheds provide a mineral source for a lot of small animals so removing something that is part of natural process violates leave what you find and respect wildlife. but it does sound interesting money or principles. my 2 cents
  11. love to see more like that a very focus session on a field that is rare plus requires great skills and equipment that the scouts would not normally see. i would love see more state parks work with scouting to make good use of the rangers skill plus highlighting that whole profession (would aid youth and adults skills)
  12. maybe i read it wrong is this policy a secondary policy on top of the churches normal policies. not a lawyer
  13. the most interesting part is the council picks the number and who is in leadership not sure what causing long term injury or death to a cub is worth in todays dollar but 7.5 million looks big but to me is really small when faced with a wrongful injury suit.
  14. that adds to my statement The weather was a known event therefore it should have been planned for. waivers are nice what they do not protect you from stupid Acts.
  15. If you cancel a camporee for a justifiable reason, you lose money. I have seen that as more of a driving force than scout safety looks like this is more of the same if a troop does the proper thing and pulls out past the refund date at least the district does not lose the reg, fees Watch for a few parents to file adverse harm lawsuits against the unit's leadership, district, and council for not taking proper care of their scouts john
  16. Part of the outdoor programming has a higher cost, requires more skill from the adults, and requires more output from scouts and parents. Most troops act more like family groups going camping. Group cooking etc Somewhere, we have lost the, at least when I was a scout, it was the process that made you an Eagle Scout, not pinning on a badge. I remember meeting people who were active in their fields as merit badge counselors. Summer camp was for the rarer outdoor merit badges, i.e., swimming, lifesaving, riflery, and other shooting scouts. See the OA perform back when there was an awe factor. Se focus on the badge numbers not the process. john
  17. i am surprised your council has not disbarred the troop . in their view money for scouting goes to them not at the troop level. They are scouting not the troop. they fear that they approach this company for funds FOS they will say we have already given. seen some bad fall out with the above. that why fund raisers other than council level need to be approved first. as use the money for dues problematic. a grant made to troop to pay scouts dues is more acceptable. the other problem i am not sure if troops can directly accept funds because they are wholely owned by the charter Holder the gift should go through the co name.troups sould have no fed tax id number
  18. look at the controls set up under the short-term camp program. The fix is easy, but it helps cover the various troops COR. if a scouter from Troop A has an issue dealing with a scout of another unit YP or injury, where does the liability fall > lets all COR know that it's a mixed group
  19. wind chills no zero possible on a webelow this is a Webelos event I am glad they canceled the overnight. Look at activity level differences between Webelos and scouts. While temp is not a directly listed thing, common sense comes in here. I would be questioning taking a new scout out also. One error in clothing , sleeping bag or a list of many things could cause one kid to become hypothermic it's putting kids at risk they are not small marines.
  20. So They will be giving a correction when the final numbers are out without holdovers in a grace period (plus any computing errors (my add))
  21. The sad thing is that they will most likely try again when there are fewer people watching out to make an uproar, and they are in more dire states (never fixed the bad management) It will be sold just not today.
  22. unfortunately a lot of ground has been made rocky by false vanity
  23. getting any level of scouts to admit it needs help is hard enough. Both paid and volunteers. the few high functioning units i have seen over my years where one,s that had a high functioning scoutmaster that keep the group together and would leverage other adults as needed. most where past upper level managers/owners.
  24. not sure we have any right to complain have you looked at price and can of the pop corn we are noted for selling
