  1. I read a bunch of the articles on it. Not much to gleam other than the natilnal statement says it was a unit activity. Assuming those words were chosen carefully, it is interesting. Also one talks about not knowing what gun was used, one did say that personally owned firearms were at the range. I wish the key safety failure was released on incidents like this, but rarely do we get to hear what truly failed everyone. It would be great to know so that we could all learn.
  2. It wasn’t part of my youth in the ‘82-‘96. Now I see adults wearing them on the lapels of their uniforms - all too often.
  3. It can print it with the MB and Scout info. We’ve done it before summer camp.
  4. No. One is the program side (SM/ASM) and the bureaucracy side (committee).
  5. Scoutbook allows you to just print them. It is auto filled.
  6. I think I was at the same event. They were wearing a particular flag cape as well. It was obnoxious, but not enough for me to voice an objection.
  7. Perfect place, imho, for those eagle mentor pins people want to junk their normal uniform up with.
  8. No thank you. Scouts already have too much school at school. I hate the worksheets/ workbooks.
  9. That is what the district award of merit is for, no?
  10. Based on @malraux, it seems like some are, while others could be complicated based on how they licensed them.
  11. Even images? Did they do the photos and diagrams themselves or are they from stock photo with limited rights? If they have full rights, it is sad to not discount the online access.
  12. What about other costs? I wonder if they own all images and writing in the pamphlets? Is any of it licensing? That is, do they have to pay anyone when they make / sell one?
  13. When I did a short term camp inspection using the NCAP standards I asked for a lot of info that should have been easy to supply. Crickets.
  14. Application of NCAP for camporees and OA etc went into enforcement 2 years ago this coming Jan.
  15. Yes! Like an Apple Music subscription. All you can eat for $200/year. I assume it would have to be substantial like $200+
  16. OA national director and assistant out. Dukeman had recently been promoted to also own YPT. NOAC ended up being a super spreader event. Masks only required at entrance to shows and then forgotten about. I wonder if the 2 are connected?
  17. Seems like a plea for funds disguised as a survey.
  18. They are still good resources. We don't keep them up to date due to the frequent changes. They could cost less if the pages weren't all color.
  19. There is value in seeing “the wider world of Scouts” outside of one’s troop. I wouldn’t trade my memories as a Scout or an adult at camp for a reduction in cost.
  20. Some camps (at least Owasippe and maybe another) I have heard of have a camp / campsite for this. It is hard work, but, nothing stopping you.
  21. For sure. Plus merit badges and a general program that supports the general BSA program. Girl Scout camps are in the $385-$485 range here. Same for Y camps etc.
  22. While not official, Mike Walton's page is very good. It isn't clear to me if this strip should be removed after a Scout turns 18. "Brownsea" Strip (scoutinsignia.com) Also from here: SCOUTER Forum
  23. Does anyone have recommended brands and brand lines within brands? Or brands / brand lines to avoid?
