That is a quality unit. Quality units deliver a quality program. A unit that does not deliver a quality program is not a quality unit.

Just like troops, councils and lodges are chartered by national. So, just, owned in some respects.

We had the shrink from ‘21 to ‘22. From ‘22 to ‘23 we had growth in our pack and are the biggest we have seen since we became involved in 2018. We believe it is the biggest it has been in anyone’s memory (15-20 years). Our pack went from 28 to 70. We rechartered 48. Our boy troop is flat at about 25. They will cross over 4 Webelos. Our girl troop went from 18, rechartered 16, and will cross over 4-5 for about 20. That will be a high for us.

Do you have a PL too? I would not have a PL too since that would be odd. I would do a SPL/PL and ASPL/APL.

In the Volenteer esentials that each council releases each year, they have had pretty consistent language from their national group. The language is much clearer. "For this reason, councils are encouraged to avoid joint recruiting and/or joint participation in community events or activities." "we must ensure that we take care that the activities in which girls participate are exclusive to the Girl Scout program"

We just had one patrol with one Scout who was the SPL. They were in effect the PL as well. At council and district events, they always ask for the SPL. When we got night enough for 2 patrols we moved to the standard 2 PLs and an SPL.

It is an awesome achievement. It is one of the most outing Scouting award. Many parts of eagle are booksmart, NMOA is outdoor-smart. You really have to put in the hours / miles. Nice work!

I heard they discontinued the actual medal. Which is sad. If you can’t find one, I’d buy one from eBay.

Requesting advice on how to handle this situation

That has changed since then. The pack committee includes the CM and DLs. -

Ah, ok. I agree. I miss-read your other post. I agree. We run our committees by consensus. To quote the late Ask Andy “Unit Committees are not deliberative bodies”. -

Does the training say they aren’t voting members explicitly? -

People have pointed out that current documentation says DLs are members of the committee. I don’t like it, but that is what I have heard. -

I agree. Many people want to known what gifs to give scouts, want mementos, etc. This effort isn’t needed as it is already baked into the program. We have done plaques, and have asked the AOLs to pay if they want one. -
This and @Armymutt’s point on parties is very interesting and rings oddly true to me. I keep hearing “the OA is just free labor for camp”. I always saw it as a personal investment of time into camp.

None of the Scouts in our troop thought the AI influence was a plus. They all thought regalia was a stupid joke. So, it really will depend on the Scouts you talk to.

Evaluating Scouts BSA for Girls Part 2 -- Unit Quality
mrjohns2 replied to Cburkhardt's topic in Open Discussion - Program
So, so true. Our girl troop's bones started in September of 2018. We had committee meetings and had about 6 girls recruited by February 2019. The key to our early success wasn't the great scoutmaster (me), it was the fact that a very very experienced Scouter "came out of retirement" to be our committee chair. He was grounded in the program and being Scout led. I was an experienced Scout, but out of the program for 25 years or so. He mentored me to be a great SM. Communicated in advance that he would serve 2 years and step down. I took on the CC and an ASM took on SM. This meeting after meeting mentoring was so key. We have 18 Scouts, on the way to 20 in March. We are loosely linked with a boy troop. We share the same building and night and chartering org. We do some schedule coordination. We want to have common policies, but it is taking longer than planned (refunds, scout accounts, etc.). -
I don't think there is much more than local reports on the subject. Some are staying and some are going.

I had good luck with asking on Reddit and on this site ScoutLink – Connecting Scouts and Guides Worldwide. I took some risk, but we had a great time speaking with a Scouter (Cub Scouter) from Denmark.

We would never use disposable containers. Just jerry cans. Seems like you need to up the number of 5 gallon buckets? We have used many 3-4 gallon jerry cans.

Evaluating Girls Joining Scouts BSA -- Part One
mrjohns2 replied to Cburkhardt's topic in Open Discussion - Program
They said there was considerable evidence that simply allowing coed was not the best way. They showed how many other countries saw little uptake in girls and a big drop in boys. This was shared by a person on the committee to allow girls during a national webcast. -
To show “green trained” you need the SM/ASM training modules, IOLS, and Hazardous Weather. Is the IOLS showing up in their records?
