  1. I agree that people can change, but there’s a slim chance of them from growing up not going camping & not liking the outdoors to liking it and going tent camping.
  2. Maybe. It’s two different nonprofits and have no ties to each other so I guess it wouldn’t count as one CO.
  3. I feel like some cubs might have to leave because their parents think they have to be with them 24/7 all throughout cub scouting.
  4. If you plan on having roles in your dens (Didn’t see anything about it), then I guarantee 100% it would not work at any level of cub scouting. Why would someone listen to someone in their classes, same grade, friend, or best friend. I know I wouldn’t. Sometimes high schoolers don’t even listen!
  5. We don’t even have a tapout. Heck, we barely can even have elections since most of the scouts are too “new” and are only around tenderfoot. There’s only 3 scouts that are between first class-life. None of the 3 want to do OA.
  6. Interesting. OA sends us a email and says "have a vote with your troop and choose the scouts you want to participate in the ordeal" They don't even go to troop meetings unless the troop asks.
  7. The picnic area is a rectangle, basically a open gated field area. It’s not big at all.
  8. Looking at some questions, how did your new scouts know the answers if they were not taught yet? I feel like mine wouldn’t know most of it.
  9. Do you happen to have the questions for the orienteering baseball?
  10. I’ve looked at those, but some of them are either too difficult for a small troop, require supplies (which we don’t have money for), or a space that we can’t provide this time of year. Also when they say go on a camping trip X meeting, we can’t always make it that time.
  11. I’ll be stealing some of these. I really like the baseball one, I’ll be doing that tonight
  12. I actually do agree, even if you were joking. But trying to explain for the first time in a while wouldn’t be the best. You did give me a idea though. When they get more use to using a compass, have them use it in the dark with only a headlamp and map. I’ll set up just a simple 100ft course.
  13. My troop’s monthly theme is orienteering since we have a trip coming up in March and will be doing a orienteering course. Im looking for some ways / curious how your Troop would teach orienteering in a basement while making it “fun”. We could go outside in the picnic area/grove our CO has but it’s poorly lit so you wouldn’t be able to see anything. (Daylight savings ruins all of my plans...)
  14. It also depends on how difficult the project. If you need all these different power tools and things, I certainly wouldn’t know what to do without help. I found the plan the easiest; but that’s just me. The proposal was the most difficult to me trying to explain everything.
  15. I have a Eagle coach, and so did about 4 other people in my troop. I don’t think any of us actually needed big help from them.
  16. You can’t even “fudge” it since he most likely needs a council signature due to the $ he raised. I was just saying.
  17. Is it a requirement or type of elective? And are you located in the U.S or another country?
  18. I never said it was scout like, but I’m sure some scouts have done it. And he can’t follow the process if he broke the process unfortunately.
  19. He could fudge it all in honesty and have the SM and beneficary sign the date before he received money. But I think with $3000 requires a council signature. It depends on the district and/or council
  20. I just did my project in September and I had the same issue as you. Well, my project was only around $500 but still. I didn’t know I needed the fundraising form either. Ill private message you what I did.
  21. That’s expensive Ill join anyone’s troop who’s going!
  22. If you change SPLs every trip how is a PLC led?
  23. I was one for a few years as well. We were taught too that we are more like a “friend” of the cub scouts. We didn’t do discipline, administrative, etc. We were basically aides that just followed the leader.
  24. I’ve never heard of switching a SPL every time and making a new Patrol every time. I personally don’t like that. The “new bright ASM” is just saying how it’s suppose or usually happens. There’s suppose to be “natural” patrols, but then for a small troop you may need to combine on trips. There usually are terms for leadership. Troops do it all different ways, I’ve seen every 6 months, 12 months, and so on. How does your troop have PLCs? How do they run meetings? Who plans the meetings if there is no PLC? How do you have a PLC with new leadership every camping trip? I feel like the w
  25. T2Eagle answered this perfectly. As he said, there can be “sanctioned supervision”. I did work at a day camp, and there was 12 bears and two den leaders (myself & someone else that was 15). We did take good 5 minute hikes to some stations without any adult supervision. BUT, we did have to take YPT, and all those other courses. In my opinion, if there is atleast two adults I don’t see why you would need a 12 year old to go out by himself? Atleast have two Boy Scouts go together and lead because that’s the best way to go. The den leader in your situation isn’t entirely breaking an
