In our Pack, there are a couple of Mobile Reserve Officers that are really never "off duty" even when they are off duty. On campouts they keep their mandatory firearms locked in safe boxes in their trunks. The radios that they carry; even when turned down very low are a real pain. That is Cub camping and they have to go or their Cub cannot go. I will never forget the Instructors face when one of them walked in to Protecting Gods Children class rushing to make the start time still completely decked out in riot gear.

After a check, it looks like the alleged felon was associated/employed with a concrete company and the Scout Hut belonged to an individual troop in Clyde Tx. I do wonder if he ever thought about the destruction that he wrought and how he was able to reconcile it in his conscience.

Is changing Councils not as simple as editing your profile on Myscouting.org? It looks like you can change Councils with a drop down box and keep the same id. My Sons spiral book is going on two years old and is still in functioning condition. I have to agree with ScoutNut. There is a huge difference between Scout Camping and taking the family out camping. You obviously want to cut corners and go Scout camping on the sly. Take the BALOO Training and offer to take the Pack out camping. After all, don't all of the Cubs deserve to go camping with a trained leader?

I would suspect that any notice from your religious organization that comes with the emblem would be enough for the Scoutshop to hand you a knot and device. Since they have nothing else, why not have them use their time and effort on service projects in their community. That seems like some skin in the game, to me.

I really do like the idea of getting the box the day of and spending a couple of hours working on the car then having the race. I have had no luck getting that to happen.

We used to have a couple of cars with the fixed axles. They come 2-3 feet ahead of the rest. Same cars every year. I removed the trophies from the mix. Slowly make it a non-competitive event. It seems that most kids show up from home already partially dehydrated adding danger to the situation. Did the Scouts drink when they were stopped and was it a not drinking while riding situation? I bring a bunch of small bottles of Gatorade. (sports drink) Put their name on the bottle with a permanent marker and start off with them finishing off their Gatorade and then a refill with water. KDD, our Lodge is one of the few that does not charge dues. They collect (dues) when you sign up for and pay registration for events. Most other lodges have a fee. I am not sure of our Southern Brothers/same Council; I assume that the dues vs. fees structure is the same for them.

Pack supplies the food for the Cubs. Parents are pot luck. That stops the foodies from competing to have the best meal and brings up the quality of vittles for those that don't camp very well. We only ever camp for 1 night because that is all I can handle.
