  1. to answer the immediate prior post from Moderator: Yes to every one of those questions! Re donors: actually none turned out. So it is largely from my pocket, which I don't mind in itself - I like giving to charity so I would rather give to my own endeavor than one run by someone else! And yes the parents are in English classes in between trying to survive on minimum wage...
  2. I was asked to post an update. The bigger issue has turned out to be adult involvement. These kids have zero parental involvement, and I have not too much other adult involvement, so I don't even have time to coordinate fundraising. So instead lately I just buy everything for them, to borrow, not keep. Not sure whether that maks them feel entitled, but I really have no other option.
  3. Thanks all for the ways to think about this, there are alot of good points here. I think we will take all the help we can get, and try to make them do as much as possible!
  4. We recently started a troop for refugees, and have about 20 active boys, in the poorest part of this city. Some just arrived in the U.S., some speak very little English, none have much money. They are Burmese, DRC, Nepali. A few foundations and friends have thrown $ at us, and some of us (the adults) don't mind paying for stuff. There is no parent participation because parents speak zero English and work all hours at places like meatpacking jobs (if they are lucky). Kids don't get rides to meetings because families dont have cars, and we can't tell kids to take the bus at night in this hood-
