  1. We did use it and had a three year license. I used it mostly at popcorn time. It has a very good spreadsheet that is easy for your Kernal to use. That being said, we are not going to renew our license. I could not get the Den Leaders to use it. (we had the version that had to be downloaded to a users computer.)
  2. Quazse, congrats on the DILt promotion to DIL. Skip, any story involving such detail deserves a tap. Guid on ya both.
  3. My son is in the same boat. I bought him a small Dutch Oven and his own cooking gear and he is very good at making (much the same thing) that everyone else is eating. This is something that We have been working at since he was 4. I would have a sit down with the parents and if your Scouts parents are not going to be involved with food purchase and prep as well as supervision; I would not hesitate to converse with them about priorities. I agree with Andy'sMom and would never shift that responsibility to someone else. Also, allergen free food is VERY expensive.
  4. Well, didn't they go from zero to x? With x= current membership.
  5. If I may, when I accepted the duties of Cubmaster, we were steeped in longstanding "We have always done it that way." The first thing to do is to make those requesting money come up with a total cost (we have always paid for Summer Camp=$2500)(Really????) before even considering the issue. Summer time was my time to play because "We never do anything in the Summer." I came up with 3 events at very little or mostly no cost and planned them so that if it was only a small number; we would still have fun. -remember two deep leadership. By the second Summer we were doing most of our recruiting duri
  6. Cue the saxophone and start the Benny Hill end of show race.
  7. I was joking... kind of. I know that all of the major sporting events do the same and the commercials surrounding the event have made hay by skirting the exact wording of the event and also using double entendre. It does cost a fortune to purchase the rights to use the events exact name. BSA would do the same if I came out with "tonkatim's Philmont proof hiking boots."
  8. Looks like your group had a lot of fun. Have you received the cease and desist letter from the NFL for using the "Super"? It will come -sooner of later. Frame it and hang it in your Scout Hut. (I am very jealous). They are very protective of that word. What did you think about the Helmet? I was looking at your lay out. Is that whole building yours to use? And the field outside? I did notice the Rugby Pitch around the corner. Great stuff, thanks for the posting.
  9. We use the popcorn machine for the same purpose and there is a sign on the side of it near the top with measurements for dry popping corn. I think that I remember that it was three tablespoons per 1/4 cup of corn. Clean up is very easy if you do not add butter and salt until it is out of the bin. Good selling and I bet if you spoke with someone at your council office they would take back unopened cases.
  10. Just to bring this post back(yeah, I am a party pooper.) The point of a Gridiron tackle is to smash into your opponent to stop all forward motion and the point of a Rugby tackle is to twist your opponent around so that the ball is presented to your team when the tackled player must let go of the ball. (in a nutshell) Skip, I am interested in what your Ruggers think and I congratulate you in your balancing Scouting with sports. My Scout Master never let disappointment show when I went missing for 4-5 months at a time and I always felt welcomed back.
  11. OK so this post has made me sign up and quit lurking. There is something magical and equally disturbing about putting on an American Football helmet. When properly fitted; it makes you think that you can run into a brick wall and not get hurt. I would have the Cats go over the difference between a Rugby tackle and a Gridiron tackle. At a professional level the difference is very telling. If you are able to try on the helmet and shoulder pads, strap them on tight and try some very light contact. (a pounding on the top of the shoulder type thing) You will see instantly what I am talking about.
