First I heard of it. What is Grant's connection to Galena ? He had a residence here, now owned by the Busch Family. Already committed to a camporee/urban treasure hunt here in St. Louis.

Individual Scout Accounts Part Trois

BD so with the exception of PackAlex and his most excellent kosher camp kitchen I don't know of many packs that have much in in the way of durable goods beyond a PWD track and a few jugs for hot chocolate. I guess there really isn't a need for them to sell popcorn then is there ? -

Then the lawn service company doesn't get the job and the unskilled laborer can't feed his 6 month old child. All so this scout can enjoy his hobby. -
My oldest would have been a few weeks shy of 10.5 with a February crossover. At he time he started K the cutoff was 5 by October 15th. NE has subsequently pushed it back to July like most. He will be 17 when he starts college. The school wants him to skip 7th grade math next year, not sure he needs that much pressure.

Take him in! Just be careful about signing off on any requirements. Many of the troops around here shut down for summer with the excuse the school is closed. Since when do scouts need HVAC to have a troop meeting ?

Google Groups for a Troop? I Need an email groups solution
King Ding Dong replied to blw2's topic in Scouting the Web
Don't use shutterfly for troop communications. Worthless. I was tasked a year ago with finding a solution and I chose troopwebhost even if we didn't use it for advancement. My CC was all for it and then some Scouter at camp told her about shutterfly and "its free". She spend days setting this thing up and now it hasn't been used in 9 months. We needed a communication tool and she got us a photo sharing site. -

The mentos and diet coke experiment is good for changing the independent variable. (How does the number of me toes effect the volume of the geyser). For $6 they make a device for this. http://smile.amazon.com/Be-Amazing-T...=mentos+geyser This YouTube video show an interesting take using Nutella and a durex. Levers ? The cubs would love to learn how Howard Hughes used his engineering skills to invent the cantilevered bra to solve a problem with Jane Russell. Maybe do some experiments with water balloons. http://confessionsofahollywoodagent.com/2013/02/15/public-outcry-over-hughes-bra/

Has anybody had success with Patrol Iron Chef cookoffs?
King Ding Dong replied to perdidochas's topic in The Patrol Method
I have posted this before but we did one last year and the adults were the judges. One patrol made sure we were served first and explained to us how they prepared everything. The other patrol just dug in and we got the leftovers. -

Degrees at University of Scouting
King Ding Dong replied to EagleScout441's topic in Venturing Program
Here in St.Louis there are no degrees but in NE they had them a couple of years ago. Not sure what the requirements were but 6 hours for a BS seems appropriate. -

A durable scout tent that is not canvas ? BD, I am curious why you view it as fundamentally wrong. I am coming around to the idea of no private benefit, but not sure I understand you. So the Red Cross can ask for donations to fund infrastructure but not gas to drive the van ? Marching band can raise fundraiser for instruments but not for travel costs to the competition ? Or is you position unique to Scouting ? -

I have a question regarding the authority of the Institutional Head/Executive Director. My COR is a very experienced Scouter but is indisposed this weekend and not available for advise. Our unit is in the middle of a fundraiser and I have questions regarding both the allocating of available selling slots for scouts and the allocating of proceeds. The committee member that is organizing the fundraiser has not been entirely specific in answering some questions I have and it appears some scouts may be allocated more selling opportunities than others. The CO generally takes a hands off approach to the unit and I do not want to interfere and micromanage this volunteer. However is it within my right or duty to instruct this person to hold off on informing scouts/parents of their proceeds or "incentive awards" until the IH (me) and COR have had a chance to review the policies and procedures of the fundraiser ? -
I'll make a deal with you. Add some ice cream and you can have 6 minutes.

Smartphones in Scouting: A curse or a cure?

I must belong to the worst parent in the world club from reading about all these boys here and on Bryan that can self control their electronic habits. Some pinhead that goes by KDD was rightfully accused of unscout like conduct over there as well. Two thumbs up Twocubdad. -

Scouter99, All the fundraising and allocating issues aside, I don't find the idea of ISAs silly at all. They can make the job of the treasurer much easier. Take for example the treasurer functions of Troop Web Host. I bought charcoal and propane for the troop, turn in a receipt, treasurer writes me a check, now I have to go to to the bank and deposit the dang thing and hope I don't lose it. Several other leaders have similar expenses, rinse repeat. OR with a few clicks the treasurer can reimburse my account and I can pay my food bill out of my account or even transfer some funds to my son's account to pay his fees. The treasures job can be a nightmare with all the sheets of paper she has to deal with and tracking everyone down for this or that. For the few deadbeats that don't pay up, you can even take a Paypal payment from a crediting/debit card right in the parking lot from you smartphone so Johnny can go on the outing. I rarely carry a checkbook anymore and the same with cash. Modern times in the digital age. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the scouts don't want to start paying with Bitcoin they earned from the using their graphics cards to mine. Never heard of Bitcoin mining ? Google it, fascinating. -
I think you are running about 4 minutes long for those poor cubs but you are certainly on the right track.

I remember a post of one our esteemed members who made the parents sign a waiver. About the only good aspect of my troop is the parents are in near universal agreement n this point.
