  1. Umm...I think this is another case of confusing 2 deep leadership with no one on one contact. You do not need to have two deep leadership at a den meeting. Unless LDS has rules above and beyond BSA rearding this. It is a good idea to have more than one adult present for the wolves, and your Webelos activity sounds like it is off site and could be considered an outing so you should go with two deep there.
  2. Make sure there is no one on one contact. The parent driving has their own son in the car as well. You do not need two adults in each car. I suggest assigning no more than two boys to each adult.
  3. 10.5 is still being bantered about. I think that is the case with most boys but can we agree that is not always the case ? A boy can graduate 4th grade and still be 9 and earn AOL before he is 10.5 ?
  4. So did the rule change, recently.. Too many of you have it in your heads that it's 10 1/2. updated : AKDenleader is having problems sleeping too I guess. I posted something similar on my other thread related to this joining issue.. They answered that the book has it stated differently. " Hmmm... so is the scouting.org website wrong, or is this so new a change that the books haven't caught up to the change on the website? Sounds like a clarification by my DE is in order. I used to insist AOL was 10 1/2, but now I am confused. My son was 9 graduating 4th and turned 10 in sept of 5th grade. According to this he could have earned AOL around Dec 1 and would not have been 10 1/2. My old school district cutoff for kindergarten was 5 by oct 15th, some could have it even later I suppose. Some schools graduate a middle of May so mid Nov. may be possible. 4.1.1.9 of 2013 GTA The Arrow of Light Award may be completed only while the following four conditions are met: (1) The Webelos Scout has been registered and active for at least six months since completing the fourth grade or since turning 10 years old; (2) he is still registered in a pack or as a Lone Cub Scout; (3) he has not yet joined a troop; and (4) he has either not yet graduated from the fifth grade or has not yet turned 11, whichever is the latter.
  5. I say blame it on Pack. He doth protest to much on these matters.
  6. Misquote jblake. From the movie it should be. "Kit? We ain't got no kits. We don't need no kits! I don't have to show you any stinkin' kits!"
  7. The only other good way I can think of is just hang them like at the store but that would take even more room.
  8. We keep the self inflatable pads and our bags under our mattresses. Probably not a good idea if you have small critters in the house. Don't have 20 however. I know someone who puts them loosely in a laundry bag and hangs them from the rafters in his garage. Looks a bit like creepy from sci fi perspective.
  9. Pack, what up with the disappearing posts? Kudu came back and my post for him is gone. "Can't wait for Kudu's response to this".
  10. They are free around here, though just an evening seminar. Take it with a grain of salt as you have expressed before GSLAC has a bad program. I found a PDF of a ppt on the council site for a neighboring district. Doesn't seem to be anything that you wouldn't know already except specific procedures for who to contact etc in your district. My district holds EBORs weekly others have them less frequently. http://www.stlbsa.org/districts/boone-trails/documents/life%20to%20eagle%20seminar%202012.pdf
  11. OK I think we have done enough piling on. Kathy, I suspect many of us are coming from the perspective having dealt with many adult volunteers that do not want to take the training and having to deal with that in our units. We have a difficult time accepting that from an Eagle.
  12. Hmmm....if done right maybe it could be considered "gathering". Alternately maybe a chicken drop, Les Nessman style.
  13. Yep, after the corn syrup you can start on the bee stings.
  14. On further thought there could be legitimate reasons for the resistance. Family work schedules could make it difficult for one parent to go camping and leave the siblings at home with the other parent who may have other obligations. But if they just "want" to family camp, I think you are in your right to say , "sorry, that is not the program I am offering and this is why..." They can take it or leave it.
  15. There is a difference between and adult having their knife and a 3rd grade boy. Students are not allowed to carry knives, for good reason. Maybe it is just an issue in the urban areas. I can see rules being more relaxed about them in the rural schools.
  16. I get where you are comming from given your previous post. My bear is really mad that his brother gets to go camping all the time and he doesn't. Minecraft helps. Webelos camping should be just about the boys and some parents along. This is not a Pack Campout. If those parents don't want to participate in the Webelos program, what can you do ? They are in for a big shock next year. Have you tried explaining the purpose of what you are trying to do ?
  17. All true. But....when I grew up and decided to leave the weed alone that's what I did, just walked away and never looked back. No problem. Cigarettes on the other hand have been the monkey on my back. I stopped smoking years ago but can't break the nicotine addiction. It is hell. Good or bad, weed is not addictive.
  18. Never seen this before. Popcorn orders were due end of October and pickup is Friday. Council has decided to extend sales until December 12 for units that would like to raise more money. Sales down in council possibly ?
  19. Any suggestions on how to work with the real knives at school ? Just thinking of the logistics. Our den meetings at right after school and I suspect the district would not look kindly on the boys even transporting them on the bus even if they turned them into the office in the morning. Might have to collect them from the parents the meeting prior when they pick the boys up. I am also a little uneasy using the knives without the parent present.
  20. A large part of the learning at IOLS is from your fellow patrol members, not from the staff. They will be a huge asset to their patrol. If they really have the attitude that they can't learn anything in turn, then they have a lot more learning to do.
  21. PM does not work on this board. Do you have a Dropbox or other cloud service you can post it on ?
