  1. Any official document spelling out the rules? Anyone else think this rule is contrary to the allegedly "non-sectarian" approach to religion?
  2. There are a few points I am not clear on. If the SPL is not a member of a patrol, what do you do with him? Does he cook with the old goats ? If patrols go on separate hikes does he just sit in camp and twiddle his thumbs? If the adults are to keep their noses out of patrol organization, what happens if you get really even patrol sizes ? A NSP and no one wants to actually do the job of troop guide ? If on a campout 1,2 or 3 scouts from a patrol attend ?
  3. My goggle skill are failing me. What are the current requirements for a religion to get a emblem approved ? My understanding was chartering at least 25 units was the base requirement. Others have stated that is not the case.
  4. Wine and beer come to mind.
  5. As long as religions are controlled by man they will ALL be subject to the failing of man. Hence I am intrigued by those religions without clergy.
  6. Impossible! They are cooking the books! Those statistics are unreliable!
  7. Over on Bryan there was a mention of trying to keep them below the current belt loop price. I can't imagine them being much below however. The only belt loops my Pack currently pays for are the required ones for Webelos. Does your council sell camp cards ? The troop had a great year with them outside a grocery store and Walmart. A lot of people just gave us $5 and didn't want the card.
  8. So my sucky Troop has age based "patrols" and ad-hoc patrols on outings. Summer Camp this year is Patrol cooking and the division the scouts/SPL came up with has many of the adults fighting. "It's to hard for 2 third years to lead 3 first years", "being stuck with 3 younger scouts is not fun, I'm not going" says the Paper Troop Guide. SPL must be in same patrol as the other 4th year scout or he is not coming back. We have 4 second year scouts and one got pushed off into another patrol while the three others are still together. This is just nuts. My thought is put the 5 1st years with the 2 4th year scouts, 6 3rd years and 4 2nd years in patrols and call it a day. It doesn't help that we are in transition to a new SM/ASM duo. Any suggestions?
  9. SS, other than the oats I don't know much about Quackers other than a friend told me they don't have clergy. In a service they congregation just sits in a room and if someone has something to say the stand up and say it. Sounds a lot like this thread.
  10. Letting girls in to the lower programs would be HUGE PR disaster without the full endorsement of GSUSA and that is not going to happen. On top of that we would just be inheriting their problems. Male leadership is going to take tween girls out in the woods without a female adult ? I don't think so. No female adult available? So the girls stay behind or the whole thing is cancelled? I don't think so.
  11. Well National could fix this if they got rid of the requirement that a religion needs to charter 5 units before it will recognize its Religious Emblem. I so want to see some Scouts with the Flying Spaghetti Monster on their uniform.
  12. I don't know Fred, doesn't seem like a very Trustworthy plan to me.
  13. Tiger and Wolf year my youngest had wallyworld blue pants. I dreaded threading that belt every time. I finally bought official uniform pants last year and they have nice wide belt loops. Makes threading much easier.
  14. I think the story goes something like this. Ethan did not practice good camping skills and left food out. Akela terrorized the Scout Ranch and he had to be put down. This saddened Ethan greatly and he was determined to become the Best Scout Ever. Unfortunately his pack could not afford the new belt loops, so that is why he is not wearing any.
  15. Fred, if the wording of the requirement stays the same I don't know how it can be handled in a family setting unless you are a den leader. "Exactly as written". "a. Help plan and participate in an interfaith worship service with your den leader. " doesn't say family.
