  2. Fred what is the alternative? After this past weekend and seeing all the other great troops I really am feeling guilty for staying with my crummy troop for so long. My son is not getting Scouting. Now, if he were a natural leader maybe he could be part of the solution, but he is not. So what is your suggestion? We stay in Tiger Cubs 6? My youngest is is a Webelos 1. How can obey the Scout Law and not inform the other parents of the huge deficiencies in the Troop? I cannot in good conscience recommend this troop to anyone unless what they want is high speed, low drag, troop method, do
  3. Rick you have excellent points and I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. Today was an Ordeal and I am about dead so I will keep this short. I know these boys, they are Dashing. One barely had the camping nights in two years to qualify, and two of those Euler with "another troop". I have my doubts. Another boy has left campouts on Saturday night before. His dad stated "he doesn't NEED the nights. They could have come back with me in the morning. A mom is driving 1 1/2 hours here tonight to get them at 11. They won't get home until nearly 1. FYI for the YPT police, I have par
  4. If anyone is bouncing a basketball within 3000' of me at midnight, I am going home. To be fair there really are no activities except for a movie in a hall after the ceremonies and services Sunday morning. What is really bugging me is you can't even call this troop a camping club because of the attitude I here some times " I don't need the camping nights".
  5. Fall Reunion is this weekend for Ordeal and Brotherhood. One mom sent an email to the Chapter Chief to see if her son could leave Saturday night after the Brotherhood ceremony. The answer was yes, so she sent out an email to all the Ordeal candidates informing them they can leave at 10:30 and where to park to retrieve their son. Big surprise today the other two Ordeal candidates are bugging out as well, leaving me and my son for our own fellowship. They got what they want, time to Dash. This includes the new ASMs son.

  7. I do Koolaidman. My favorite Sesame Street character is Oscar the Grouch as well. Basement/Garbage Can distinction without a difference.
  8. I think it is great Dad is asking about it here! Isn't guidance what adults are supposed to provide? Even parents? The OP is obviously new to this game. His troop could be as bad as mine with a rather passive SPL who would just say "sure, whatever". Where is it written this is the job of the ASPL? Do you know his troop has one? Where is the fast track advancement evidenced? Did Dad say he just crossed over in March? We have several scouts that have been with the troop for 18 months and just got 2nd class. Old Ox your are light years more polite than BD, but are making some of the
  9. What is the age gap between the brothers? Mine are 3 years apart and I wouldn't consider it for a moment. The Den Chief position is one of the most important in a troop if done by a mature Scout and done correctly. If not, it can damage the Troops reputation in the eyes of a Pack and the parents. Most on this board would consider 13 still to young. It is also one of the most time consuming. The Den Chief needs to be a help to the DL not another cat to herd. If the SPL, SM and DL all believe he has the maturity, skills and time to do the job, why not pick a a different Den than his brothe
  10. ROFL. Welcome to the forums! He could ask Troopmaster but he should upgrade to the latest version first and even then I suspect there will be no response. Sorry, I just couldn't resist, "Troopmaster" is a software program used by Troops for advancement tracking, your son will have more success talking to his Scoutmaster. Alternatively he could talk to a ATM. Sorry, couldn't resist again.
  11. "but was in a position where he appeared about to take something." This just doesn't sit well with me but I wasn't there. Then again, a one month delay in advancement to Life? Big whoop.
  12. Another thing to consider is with 2-3 dens you will end up reaching more boys, because you can have meetings on different nights. If Johnny ends up with a sports conflict on Tuesday he can move over to the den that meets on Thursday.
  13. Give them all iPads and they can Skype it in for a few hours, then go back to their field trip.
  14. I don't know Stosh drinking chlorinated water and having lots of ice on hand doesn't seem very "authentic" to me. Then again dying by the thousands is not great for membership.
  15. Your headline made me shake my head a few times. "Anonymous" is the hacker group that makes a lot of headlines targeting institutions and people that it finds offensive, but seems to be lying low in the recent months.
  16. Snacks are great in theory but if you do them I suggest toward the end of the meeting. Some kids eat reeeaaaaallllyyyyyy slow and just want to chatter. Plus the mess. My preference is to let the parents get crumbs all over their car if they can't feed the boys dinner, not my house or the meeting place. Assigning snack duty to the parents always causes problems if they don't show up.
  17. In my Lodge a District Advisor would be a Chapter Advisor. Look here. http://www.oa-bsa.org/uploads/publications/GOA-2012.pdf
  18. Her is some more "Mud" from the guys who filled the complaint. They claim they filed it before the veto occurred as it is the threat that is illegal under Texas law. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/08/rick-perry-indictment-liberals-110229.html#.U_uaV2K9KK0
  19. So on hot days do you reenactors drop of heat stroke by the thousands for authenticities sake?
